Your salary is based on your value to the company and the job that you do. If you only do what you're asked to then you have no right to ask for more money since you're only doing what you're being paid for. However, if you consistently do more than you're asked then you put yourself in a position to demand more. This principle has been confirmed by Napoleon Hill in his book, Think & Grow Rich as part of his philosophy for success.
