10 Patriots Training Camp Questions with Rich
10 questions (Patriots Training camp edition) 1.       Whats going on with the Chrisitan Gonzalez deal? 2.       What happened with the Gabe Jacas 3.       Will Jacas be able to contribute early in the season? 4.       Should the Pats keep Boutte? Which WR is out? a.       WR Kyle Williams and WR Efton Chism III: The top of the Patriots’ wide receiver depth chart seems relatively set. A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins and Kayshon Boutte — the latter with a potential asterisk given that he remains a trade candidate — will be the top wideouts. The next and potentially final spot, meanwhile, looks like the subject of a competition between two sophomores: former third-round draft pick Kyle Williams and former undrafted rookie Efton Chism. The two rotated in an out of the top-level offense on Monday in a competition that very well could go either way. 5.       Who are you most interested in seeing on defense? 6.       Who are you most interested in seeing on offense? 7.       Will Vrabel keep it in his pants this year? 8.       Scale of one to 10 how worried are you about Will Campbell? 9.       Can DeAndre Hopkins be the answer the Patriots have always looked for as a WR coach? 10.   Can you name the kicker? Sox Make a Deal
Red Sox Make a deal Red Sox trade Connley Early to Washington Nationals for Chris Mead INF Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said postgame Mead's X-rays were negative, so it appears the slugger won't miss much time, if any. Still, Mead is expected to undergo more tests today. Mead – 25 yrs old Hitting .254/.352/.500 with 17 home runs in 87 games while taking over their full-time third-base job  Early – 24 yrs old Career 3.24 ERA in 111 innings, 21 starts, during which he has struck out 122, walked 38 and allowed 15 home runs.   Mead - The 25-year-old, originally signed out of Australia as an international free agent by the Phillies in 2018, has bounced around and didn’t gain his footing until recently. In November of 2019, the Phillies made a masterful trade, sending Mead to the Rays for their current ace, Cristopher Sánchez. Mead got his first callup to the Rays in ‘23 and didn’t do much in parts of three seasons there before getting moved to the White Sox at the ‘25 Trade Deadline. Off he went again on March 28 of this ‘26 season -- two days after Opening Day -- when the White Sox sent him to the Nats for prospect Boston Smith.   Early - Early went to the Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2023 draft and by the 2025 postseason had pitched his way into a playoff start. After two years at Army, he transferred to Virginia and proved his worth against higher-level competition. Boston helped him draw another 3 mph of fastball velocity, and he cruised through the minor leagues and has used his above-average stuff and high intellect to great effect, with a slider and changeup proving particularly effective.   Why the deal?   Boston’s 98 homers are tied with the Brewers for fewest in MLB. Then you have the Nats, who have gone deep 156 times, good for best in baseball. “It was clear and obvious how our team needs to improve offensively, and Curtis fits that,” said Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy. “Any time you give up a player like Connelly Early, it’s really tough,” said Breslow. “Looking at our roster and our needs, we felt like this was something that made us better.”   Paul Toboni formerly worked for Sox under Breslow (Traded Red Sox Jake Bennett) Early is on the IL with an elbow injury soon to come off. Early is not a good analytical pitcher   Red Sox over paid, but maybe not by much?  Was there other deals out there with some creativity from Breslow? Do we trust Breslow talent evaluation in Early? Could they afford to give up Early this year? Sonny Gray Ranger Suarez (dealing with injury) Payton Tolle Jake Bennett Patrick Sandoval Crochet wont pitch again this year Bryan Bello?? yikes   What next? All reports say Red Sox are not done. They are looking for a short stop. According to reports from The Athletic, USA Today and ESPN in recent days, Boston is looking to upgrade at shortstop. The club reportedly has interest in the Angels’ Zach Neto, the Nationals’ CJ Abrams and the Astros’ Jeremy Peña. However, it could be difficult for the Red Sox to pry one of those trade targets loose. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Red Sox Won't Lose
Red Sox wont lose Caleb Durbin 2 run HR and Chapman close secures Red Sox 14th win in a row. 15 in a row is the Red Sox record tied 1946 team Longest win streak since the 1940’s The 14-game streak is the longest in the majors this season. MLB has seen just seven win streaks of 15 or more games within a season in the Expansion Era (since 1961), the most recent coming in 2021, when the Cardinals won 17 in a row.   • Monday's win was the Red Sox's ninth straight against AL East opponents, their longest such streak since 2016. • The comeback win against the Orioles was their sixth of July, tied with the Brewers for most in the month. • The pitching staff has a 1.98 ERA during the streak, including three shutouts. • The lineup is hitting .255/.341/.461 with 22 home runs, averaging 5.9 runs per game. They had averaged 4.0 runs prior to the streak, hitting 73 home runs in 85 games. The Red Sox were 14 games under .500 at 32-46 on June 24, the worst record in the AL and better only than the Rockies in all of MLB   Chad tracy vs Alex Cora. How big of an impact?   The bigger reason for Boston's newfound winning ways has been the starting rotation, which has a 2.66 ERA during the 19-2 stretch. Amazingly, the Red Sox have done this not only without Crochet, but in part without Connelly Early -- who landed on the IL with a sore elbow early in this stretch -- and Ranger Suarez, who was scheduled to return from the 15-day IL on Tuesday but had his start pushed back a day. Sonny Gray has gone 3-0 with a 1.07 ERA in four starts as he's pitched his way into the Cy Young conversation, but the surprise hero has been Jake Bennett, a 25-year-old rookie left-hander acquired in the offseason from the Washington Nationals for Luis Perales. In nine starts, essentially replacing the struggling Brayan Bello, Bennett is 5-3 with a 2.35 ERA, including 4-0 with a 1.00 ERA during the 19-2 stretch. He doesn't throw hard with a 92-93 mph fastball, but he's 6-foot-6 with great extension, an outstanding changeup and the ability to induce ground balls.   Pitching depth is real and legit   Caleb Durbin? He's hitting .330 his past 28 games with seven home runs and a .986 OPS. He made a few adjustments, closing his stance to keep him from pulling off the ball as often. He's up to 2.3 WAR -- almost the same as the 2.4 that Bregman has produced for the Chicago Cubs this season.   Their playoff odds via FanGraphs have increased from 9.4% on June 24 to 13.8% on July 1 to 63.9% after Monday's win. They've climbed from as much as 15½ games behind the then-division-leading Yankees to 6½ games behind the now-leading Tampa Bay Rays.    Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
