Here's the story of what happened when I had a stroke (and how I got there): Did you know that (until last week) I was simultaneously working on 5 books. Five books!! That's the level of intensity I've been running at! So my body decided to slow me down, in the scariest way possible. (Did I tell you the tests also show I've had a recent heart attack? "No, honey, I'm just going to clutch my chest for a minute and then finish that article..." Seriously! I do need to listen to my body better.) Are you listening to your body? If it's saying slow down, please do it! And listen to this episode to find out more... Thank you for joining me today! How to Improve Your Doctor-Patient Relationship and get the care you need I don't know about you, but I've been struggling with getting quality medical care. I've asked around and many people I know have been having the same issue. So I started thinking, is it the doctor? Or could it be... US? Well, I've used Dr. Bluestein's advice for my last hospital stay and last 3 office visits, and it's made a huge difference!! (ok, I did not take it at the end of my hospital stay...but more on that later. Did that end well? no.) The two things to remember from this episode: Be concise. Bring your one-sheet. don't share a long story about what happened, just share the facts. Give the physician time to think. Allow silences during your visit so they can read the chart and think about what's happening. Letting them think through things while you are silent will allow them to give your condition more attention and come to a clearer conclusion. Find the 11 tips and other amazing (and somewhat unexpected) tips in this episode. I never would have thought of #7!

Stop doing this today and feel better tonight! I'm pretty sure you're doing it, I know I was! I put everyone else first. But I had to, right? I mean, I LOVE my kids! I didn't feel well, and saved up my energy to take them where they wanted to go. I hosted as many events and parties as I could to make them happy. (One month we had 3 parties for just one of our daughters - 3!!) Sometimes I'd stay healthy, and sometimes I pushed so hard I'd be in bed for days... weeks... or months. Was it teaching them what they needed to know? Was it teaching them that others are important? Did it teach them that I have value, or that they are imminently more important than me? NOPE! Learn how to find the balance, and start feeling better tonight on this episode. "Putting everyone else first doesn't teach them to feel loved. It teaches them you're not important." -Jen Hardy Thank you for joining me today! Are you looking for a community of moms who get what it's like to do all the things while having health challenges? I clicked on a trailer for a film I'd never heard of. I'd found it while scrolling, I don't even know where. It mentioned invisible illness, and having several of those I was intrigued. Not even a minute into that trailer for 'We Are Visible,' and I had to push pause. I was sobbing so hard I couldn't hear it anymore. After a few minutes I finished watching it and immediately searched for the creator's email address. I HAD to interview her. How did she do it? How could she have captured what everyone I know with chronic illness has experienced at some point? I had to know! And she said yes!! This sweet, demure, and incredibly strong woman said yes! When you watch the movie, and you need to watch this movie. (Pay the $6 and do it!) You'll feel like those women are your friends. And, at times, like you're looking in a mirror. It’s an important one as our society moves forward making decisions - permanent decisions - about the future of our children. Scott, and those who have medically transitioned, are the only ones who can tell the rest of us what medical transition truly is, what the long term effects are, and how it could impact children long-term. Why Scott? He used to be Kelly King, a healthy, successful Mom. I have 7 kids. 5 of them are adults, and they’re successful as the world sees it. They each live on their own, are financially self-supporting - with cars, and money in the bank. But when I was raising them, I didn’t know how to be a good parent. I never really spent time with good parents. So I raised them on book knowledge and what I knew I didn’t want to do. On this podcast, I've said from the beginning that I'd share what to do, and what NOT to do. It's been tough to share my mistakes, but I need to do it. Here are mistakes that I and other Moms have made that really alienate kids. If you've done these things it's time to stop, apologize, and move forward. HOW TO ALIENATE YOUR CHILD: Tune out Lie to them Don’t be forthcoming with important information, omission is a form of lying Find the rest in the episode, or at hardymom.com/how-to-alienate-your-child.
