I don’t know when all of these liberal podcasters will ever learn to curb their political leanings. I used to love the thinking side podcast and was tickled to death to find out that Joe was doing a new mystery podcast. I started at the top and started working my way back. When I eventually got to the episode on the Seattle zombie woman, Vince just couldn’t stay out of his own way. Moving on.

I was looking for new mystery podcast after relistening to old thinking sideways episodes. I was so excited to find that Joe has this one with Vincent. Although I will always miss the TS crew, this podcast is a wonderful successor and covers great cases. They have a good balance of enough research without going on for too long. My favorite episode so far is the Baby Aleshenka one.

This is one of my favorite mystery podcasts! It’s not just about true crime but also interesting historical mysteries and apparent supernatural events. Vincent and Joe go over all the theories, even the craziest ones, but they’re always reasonable with the conclusions they come to. Very well-researched, funny, and insightful.

I love the show and always has interesting topics. But man that Amelia Earnhardt episode was a mess, someone eating chips or something and the episode just jumped to a story about orangutans and lions conspiring to break out of a zoo or something. Whaaaa…

Vincent and Joe always entertain, lots of the topics are ones I have never heard of. Personal favorite are the heist episodes.

Vincent sounds like he is doing bong hits and snorting blow during the whole Amelia Earhart episodes.

This is one of favourite podcasts (and I listen to many). The title is a bit misleading - if you're looking for gore and horrific-murder details, you (usually) won't find it here. Most of the time the stories are of the 'unsolved mysteries' type (not 'unsolved murders'), and range across the full scope of geography and history. You're likely to hear stories here you won't hear anywhere else, all related in a respectful (and frequently humourous) way. Joe and Vincent have a great rapport and chemistry and I enjoy listening to them, regardless of that week's show's particular topic. So well worth a listen, unless you're only interested in serial killers :).

I was so sad when Thinking Sideways ended and SO HAPPY when I found The Shocking Details. It’s so great and I love Vincent’s voice.

This show reviews newsworthy or entertaining events that spark the hosts interest. This frequently means true crime ranging from robbery and missing person cases you have never heard of all the way to D. B. Cooper. There are also some unique episodes; everyone needs to find and listen to my personal favorite, the exploding whale episode! This podcast is well worth adding to your playlist.

I was a longtime listener of Thinking Sideways. I was heartbroken when it ended. Hearing Joe on this one has healed a little part of me I didn’t know was damaged. Vincent does a great job too and he’s a born storyteller who breaks things down and imagines them as if he’s watching it all happen from the outside.

I’ve been listening since it started, and it’s so good. They do a good job of going through the story with a touch of banter between them. I love that there’s a mix of stories that are common but also ones I’ve never heard of.

They go all over the world for obscure topics.

Cannot recommend it enough. Please give it a listen. Good interaction and banter. Unique and intriguing stories. Wonderful listening !!

All below review still stands but this is a comment on the Russell Bohling ep. Obvi answer to me is drug deal gone bad. “Secret Friend” was his dealer, and a typical place to buy or use . Explains why parents were paranoid and keeping tabs on money and gas ( as the parent of a young adult in recovery I can testify ) . Also explains why he was googling it before, check for security . Something happened, maybe an overdose or altercation/robbery )and body was disposed of elsewhere because there was probs evidence present . My two cents.. Love this podcast. Great variety in episodes, and not the same stuff that every other show has already covered. Love their rapport . I was a big Thinking Sideways fan, and it’s great to have Joe back. Vincent is awesome too. Keep up the good work guys!

This is exactly the type of “unexplained mystery” show I can get down with. I used to listen to thinking side ways and Joe was always my favorite - great dry sense of humor and very knowledgeable and yes, he has like the best radio voice. And Vincent is amazing too, he knows a lot about all sorts of things, and I just love listening to them talk about these weird things all over the gd place. Wish there was like a hidden catalog of more episodes.. I’ve binged them all I’m so surprised it’s not mentioned more on the Reddit suggestion page. I think a lot of possible listeners have missed this somehow.

A great podcast that is relaxing and enjoyable for bedtime listening, not that many ads which is great but I wish the episodes were longer up to 1 hour. Very pleasant voices and personalities.

I love this podcast so much. Joe and Vincent manage to do it all: they pick the stories that are the most intriguing, keep the chillin-with-friends vibe and jokes going, stay respectful to the subject matter and have the most soothing voices on the air. I feel like I'm hanging out with friends enjoying a yarn every time I put them on. Thanks for the fun episodes guys!

I love this podcast! If you’re into shows like Unsolved Mysteries and podcasts like Thinking Sideways (same Joe) this is for you. The hosts keep it light with just the right amount of banter and jokes, a little but not too much. There aren’t enough shows like this, so I hope they stick around.

A good, moderate length podcast about weird stuff, with two intelligent takes on what’s going on. Started as a listener of Thinking Sideways. Didn’t think I would but I love this podcast even more. The pace is perfect, and both hosts are incredibly informed and balance each other very well.

I always love having something more lighthearted and fun when I run or work. This is the perfect podcast to entertain without having to completely concentrate on everything that is said.

Favorite podcast to listen to when I want a more lighthearted look into mysteries

I loved Thinking Sideways and was craving more “unsolved mystery”-type podcasts. So happy that Joe is still giving us these cold cases and that he has a great new partner in Vincent.

Joe and Vincent bounce off each other nicely while managing to have a personality without being obnoxious. Also manage to pick out lesser known cases, a great spiritual successor to Thinking Sideways.

These guys are great! I used to love Thinking Sideways and was thrilled to learn that Joe has a new show with a talented partner. Vincent’s intros clue you in to what they have in store for you, and their excellent rapport carries the show. I lived in Japan and love the mysteries they cover from there. Most are new to me. Stellar research from the SD Team. They cover darker cases with respect as well. Big fan, thanks guys!

Joe was the best of Thinking Sideways. Vincent is a great addition keeping the episodes focused. The latest episodes are much better than the earlier ones. Enjoyable listen.

This isn’t just a true crime podcast, although they delve into that. They cover weird stories from across the globe and across the centuries. Some of the theories they float are silly, but maybe that’s what happens when the answers to the mysteries are impossible to find. As Joe would say, “You know? I don’t know!” Lol

I came for Joe’s voice (after being introduced to it via The Trail Went Cold minisode #30) and stayed because The Shocking Details is the perfect blend of entertaining and intriguing. Thanks so much for your incredible work, guys!

This is one of the shows that I listen to every episode. Vincent and Joe are able to ride the line between a deep dive podcast with their research with the digestible length of "fluff" podcasts that seem to simply read the Wikipedia entry. Not just for fans of Thinking Sideways, it manages to appeal to both. 10/10
