Lucky Girl Syndrome
Still have no idea what “Lucky Girl Syndrome” is, but thanks for trying. Maybe just ask your guest more directly: “Please define Lucky Girl Syndrome is.” Did enjoy this episode overall but guest was a bit erratic.

Great podcast
If you are really trying to work on yourself & figure out you’re mental health issues I definitely suggest this podcast. I was in therapy & also take medication to help my anxiety. I love listening to the calm soothing voice of Dr. Margaret R. I don’t regret listening nor following the show at all. I’ve already shared this podcast with others.

TEDx Talk
I just listened to it. In my humble opinion it was absolutely one of the best talks I have heard. And I’m including every single TED & TEDx talk that I’ve ever listened to. From the words used, to the message, and especially the delivery, every single minute of it was nothing short of excellent. Brava!

Mmm. The first episode i listened to rubbed me the wrong way.
I’ve heard raving reviews about this podcast, so I was so excited to listen. I can’t remember which episode this was but one episode in particular about “what really makes you happy” left me a little unsettled. The host and the guest started to talk about the people who were included in the longitudinal study (Initialy mostly white meat because he started in the 1930s). Then the guest started to talk more about diversifying the study to women and also mention people came from backgrounds from working class at risk background. He went on to talk about how people of color and Latinx and minorities were not really included because researchers didn’t want to ——in the hosts words, “contaminate the data”. While I understand not necessarily wanting to start over with the data if if you are “leaving it up to your colleagues” to begin studies for black and brown people is the research conducted by Harvard a REAL set of data that is reflective of a diverse experiences of ALL people? Especially if you don’t do diligence around, making sure that all experiences are included in the work, even if you have to start over? And I’m saying this because this research has been so groundbreaking on helping people find what makes people happy. Can you really generalize when the research is not really reflective of every single American experience? I wish the host would’ve held space for a little bit more accountability/pushback there. Anyway, I will continue to listen. I won’t let this Jade my experience and I’m looking forward to more episodes.

A highlight of my week
Whether individual therapy hasn’t (yet) been part of your journey, or you can’t get enough of understanding why you have certain behaviors (like me), I bet this podcast will be a staple in your self work journey like it has been in mine. I’ve been listening to Dr. Margaret for a bit over a year, and her weekly episodes have become something to look forward to. She has such a compassionate, down-to-earth energy, and she covers topics from so many angles that even if something doesn’t resonate with me exactly, I can find something to take from it. Most helpfully, Dr. Margaret often shares tangible tools to tackle behaviors, triggers and more. It’s especially helpful for someone action-oriented like me, but who doesn’t always know how to put teachings into practice. I’ve emailed Dr. Margaret before, and she answers swiftly and compassionately. I sincerely think she cares about and wants to be there for this community - however distant it can feel to so do digitally. 10/10. Thank you, Dr. Margaret, and all the listeners who have shared their stories and questions, which make this podcast especially special.

listen to them ALL!!!
I found this pocast in January 2022 and began listening at episode 1. By then there were more than 200 episodes! I listened to one episode every day this year until I cycled thru all of them - more than 300 in total! Most of them I saved to my library and now I'm making a second pass through them. What I like about the episodes: 1. They are short and easy to fit into a morning work commute or dog walk. The episodes got longer as the years rocked on but most are still around 30 minutes or less, which is perfect for me. 2. There is a wide variety of topics. If one episode doesn't have any signficance to me, there are dozens of others that do. I've learned about topics I previously had little or no knowledge of. 3. There are always "what you can do about it" points made. And isn't that the point of self-work??? 4. Dr. Margaret makes herself available. She encourages voice and e-mail messages. She responds to as many as she can. I find this to make her relatable - though I've never written or called!! It shows that her heart is really for helping others in their struggles. I highly recommend you subscribe and listen to every episode. I'll bet 90% will be useful to you or someone you know. While you're at it, get the book "Perfectly Hidden Depression" and work through the exercises in it. Your future self will thank you for the investment!

I Adore SelfWork & Dr. Rutherford
I stumbled upon SelfWork almost a year ago when I was looking for podcasts about self-help specifically around depression after a devastating breakup and also feeling incredibly lost and unfulfilled in my career. Dr. Margaret and this podcast are an oasis of insights and actionable information that are genuinely helpful, as opposed to just superficial platitudes. Dr. Rutherford has a very soothing voice and calming manner and I always feel safe even just listening to her, even when there’s an episode about a topic that doesn’t really resonate with me, personally. One of my favorite things about her is that she validates people’s feelings. She never makes anyone feel bad or wrong for what they’re feeling. She only offers gentle help for healing. There are a handful of episodes I must’ve listened to 10 times already and they never get old. Thank you for what you do, Dr. Margaret. You are touching more lives than you know.

Wise and thoughtful
One of my go-to podcasts. I’m a clinical social worker and I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to Dr Margaret and her guests. The topic selections are ones I commonly hear are challenging for my clients (as well as friends and loved ones). I appreciate her concise explanations and the tools/suggestions she provides. Thank you for demystifying therapy and helping to lessen the stigma associated with mental health care!

Dr. Margaret is my Friday morning routine
I listen to Dr. Margaret with my morning coffee every Friday. I’ve learned so much from her podcast and she is so down to earth. I particularly enjoyed the most recent “You are what you click” episode. I listened twice! Dr. Margaret is so engaging, even when interviewing a guest. You can tell that she is always open to learning from others and asks great questions that make the conversation go deeper. I’m so glad to have her podcast as part of my weekly routine. And, as a side note, I swear that my cat enjoys her too! When the intro music to Dr. Margaret’s podcast starts playing, Purrl settles down to listen right beside me! Keep on keeping on Dr. Margaret! And thank you for all that you share to help us listeners!

Best Mental Health Podcast Out There!
I've been a SelfWork listener for a long time; Dr. Margaret's insight and practical suggestions have been life-changing for me. Every episode has some nugget of wisdom that I've found helpful, no matter what the topic. She manages to be both thorough and detailed (explaining research, for example) while still being totally accessible and friendly. I can't recommend her enough!

Dr. Margaret is amazing!
I’ve been listening to and loving Dr. Margaret’s podcast. I also got her book “Perfectly Hidden Depression” and have learned and gained so much insight about myself. The “ah ha” moments have been countless from the book to the podcast. I even reached out to Dr. Margaret via email and she responded right away. If only she was able to treat clients in other states. Fingers crossed that one day that changes ;) She is truly amazing!!

This is not your father’s therapy!
I am VERY thankful I came across this podcast. I stayed away from therapy for years because I assumed that all therapists responses would be “how does that make you feel?” Fortunately, Dr. Margaret’s refreshing approach is “Ok, here’s the problem, now, what are you going to do about it?” Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

You turned me 💪🏻
Thank you for taking the time to make this podcast. I’ve tried therapy at least 5 times in the last 10 years for anxiety, depression, and grief. I could never stick with therapy. But, since discovering your podcast and binging the episodes that resonate, I feel much more confident about taking on therapy and new modern treatments, and much more informed about how beneficial therapy can be. I’m excited to begin my own self work :)

Sees right through you!
This woman has changed my entire life! I didn’t even realize how traumatized I was or that I even needed therapy before this podcast. Nevertheless, my friend suggested that I listen and since then I have a consistent relationship with my therapist through BetterHelp.com, learned to building constructive boundaries, and working on my relationship with my parents! I love the space she’s created in helping us to understand larger context while providing relevant examples!! I love it here!!!

Loved the fierce search for self episode
Hi this is Frank from the parenting over 40 podcast. I love all of your episodes but the fierce search for self really hit home for me. I don’t know why other psychotherapist feel the need to chime in and criticize someone else’s take the Myers Briggs Personality Type assessment. Look Dr. Margret you’re doing a great service for people by doing your podcast and I for one will keep listening.

So glad I found this podcast
I found this podcast while searching for podcasts that addressed common marital problems that had been cropping up in my own marriage. I am so glad that I stumbled on Self Work. I have found it to be enormously helpful and therapeutic in my own life. This podcast has helped me realize that I am not alone in my struggles, and that there is always something I can do about seeking solutions. Hearing Dr Margaret is like having a warm cup of tea on a chilly day.

I finally found my podcast
I stumbled upon this podcast a couple months ago when I was looking for answers. I couldn’t believe how spot on everything was and how much I could relate to so many episodes. This has been my therapy for the last several months and I’m so grateful for it. I look forward to new episodes and have already purchased both your book and Jenny Lawson’s book Broken. You definitely inspire me to work on things I normalized for so long and make me want to keep reaching out to improve myself. I tried several other podcasts and yours stuck with me. Thank you for all that you do!
