This is an episode of both discovery and rediscovery. In 1985 The Cult create a pure album, and find the sound that was hiding within, with their second release, “Love”. An album like no other, it is beautifully produced, arranged, and written, filled with love songs and hard hitting rock, riding hard on the tail end of the punk scene. This album has aged very well and is a potent reminder of just how influential these trail blazers really were to an up and coming hard rock movement from that era. “Melophobia” is the album and not the condition! Cage the Elephant’s third release is a thrilling, chaotic, garage rock, punkish powerhouse collection of music that has injected new life into the world of rock and roll. And man, this ambitious little band, with its’ roots in Kentucky, kick it out old school. The band claimed to have isolated themselves from their influences in an attempt discover their own sound…..it worked! Speaking of isolation, a mysterious little Belgian Brewery provides the beer this episode. This Trappist Ale called Orval can even be aged to improve its flavor……much like a fine wine……or album. Nudge up the volume knob, and pour a cold one.
