I thought it would be necessary for me to dispel some myths around disability, and around people with disabilities. It is understandable that those who have little or no experience around this will prefer not to say anything. Too many people think "It's better for them not to do anything or say anything than to say something wrong, or say something that will cause distress to people with disabilities." Unfortunately, this sort of perspective leads to more isolation, and exclusion within our communities, and especially within our churches. 

A Message to the Church, on behalf of families dealing with disability matters. There is a huge gap between the reality of families and what our churches are set up to accommodate. As a result, families raising children with disabilities miss out on spiritual nourishment. For these families to be nurtured, The Church MUST wake up to her mandate in creating an enabling environment for those dealing with disabilities and their loved ones that they care for.
