The Pod Social
The Pod Social
Mark Mackintosh
Welcome to The Pod Social - the podcast for all things Social Media... well... some things Social Media. You'll find a mixture of discussions with industry insiders and experts, alongside a host of thoroughly interesting folk, with the conversation focusing on the themes surrounding social media and how we use it, or how we should use it! I'll also throw in a couple of episodes where I just let loose with my rambling. None of this is scripted, so please excuse the tangents. Until the next episode, please like, subscribe, and enjoy!
Episode 7 - Lauren Fletcher
Welcome to the penultimate episode of the first series (or season, depending where you are from) of The Pod Social. This is episode 7! My guest for this episode is Lauren Fletcher, currently residing in Cheltenham and studying for Masters in PR at the University of Gloucestershire - which just so happens to be my own alma mater - whilst also taking on an internship at 10 Yetis Digitial. This is a slightly shorter episode than usual, although the conversation in some ways was a lot more focused. We talked about the responsibility the the social media giants have, or don't have, when it comes to promoting balance on their platforms. We spoke about the relevance of print journalism, and we touched briefly upon Farmville, if anyone remembers that!? Huge thanks to Lauren for being such a great guest, and I'd like to wish her the very best of luck in what is bound to be a bright future in the world of PR and social media. As always, don't forget you can follow me on Instagram and Twitter, and if you feel like leaving a review wherever you heard this, that would also be much appreciated! The next episode, and season finale, will be a little different, in that it'll be guestless. Lets see how that goes, shall we...

Episode 6 - Carissa Vikis
Welcome to episode 6 of The Pod Social! For this episode I spoke with Carissa Vikis - resident of Paphos, Cyprus, and owner, creator, and blogger of My Sensations of Nature (an indie beauty brand), creator of memories and blogger at Wandering Gypsy Lust... and the way that I discovered Carissa, the host of Beauty Unlocked: The Podcast. Beauty Unlocked is definitely not your ordinary beauty podcast as it delves into a variety of topics regarding our society's obsession with physical beauty and the consequences these impossible beauty standards have had on us.  Instead of makeup tutorials and lip gloss reviews, you'll find Korean penis facials, and tanning your butthole! If you listen to this episode and not come away having learnt something new, then you're definitely in the minority! As always, thank you for listening! Don't forget to follow on Instagram and Twitter, and if you liked this episode (or any of the other ones) please leave a review as it will help people find the podcast. Until the next time - BYE!

Episode 5 - Lala Inky
Welcome to Episode 5 of The Pod Social! Episode 5 features tattoo artist, and self-proclaimed hermit crab, Lala Inky. Residing in the south of Wales, La has inflicted varying degrees of pain upon me over the last few years and I wouldn't have it any other way! For some examples of her incredible artwork, and to get a better insight into her personality too, head on over to her Instagram page.  Our conversation went into how she got into tattooing, mental health, online suicide, arsehole cats, therapy, sunsets, Taylor Swift - and more! This episode is really worth the listen: Lala is a lot more interesting than I am... Mental health, or - more accurately - mental candidness, played a large part in our discussion, and this seems to be a running theme when it comes to talking about Social Media. The impact that social media has had on La, and tattooing in general is clearly a big one, and we go into detail about it's effects, it's positives and it's negatives. We also speak about her blog, Confessions of an Auteetotal Tattooer, which covers mental health, addiction, sobriety, autism, relationships and so much more. I would highly recommend having a read, particularly if anything we spoke about in this episode has affected you. Click on the links at the bottom for the individual posts. I would like to thank Lala for being part of The Pod Social, and hopefully we'll be able to get a follow up arranged too! As always, please don't forget to follow The Pod Social on Instagram @podsocialpodcast and Twitter @thePodSocial, and if you can like or leave a review - wherever you get your podcast fix from - that will really help too. Episode 4 - Kyle McCracken
In episode 4 I talk to Kyle McCracken, focusing on how social media has impacted the LGBTQ+ community. Of course we talked a little about the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak (I mean, who isn't...) as well as Eurovision, disguising Britney on your iPod and how social media has helped build communities that would otherwise struggle without it. You can find Kyle on social media at Instagram and Twitter, and read his articles as a Sports Ambassador at Pink in Sport and Grey, Green and the Tentative Pink I hope you enjoy the episode, and remember, you can find The Pod Social on Instagram @PodSocialPodcast and Twitter @ThePodSocial...  Thank you for listening, and until next time - enjoy the show!

Episode 3 - Emma O'Hara
Welcome to Episode 3! Recorded about a week into the Covid-19 lockdown of the United Kingdom In this episode I spoke to Emma O'Hara - former collegiate athlete in the US, and current Matilda fan - on how social distancing is only really physical distancing with social media at play, whether or not social media is trustworthy, and risking debilitating injury to get to the fuse box. Thank you to Emma for being guest number 3 on the Pod Social, and thank you to anyone who has, not only listened, but also read this far down the show notes! Episode 2 - Jay Miller
Episode 2 of The Pod Social gave me the chance to have a chat with Jay Miller, Cali resident, host of his own JayMillTalks podcast (links below) We spoke about what Jay is up to at the moment, how people are ignoring the - literally life saving - advice when it comes to staying at home, brand archetypes, and the accident that changed it all. Huge thanks to Jay for taking part, and I hope you enjoy our chat! Welcome to the Pod Social - Episode 1: with Ian and Tom - the guys who form Very Biased Opinions. VBO is a YouTube channel dedicated to football predictions, Oxford United, and other football-based tomfoolery! Welcome to the Pod Social
Anchor told me I should record a trailer... so... here it is! The Pod Social is the place for all things (or at least, some things) social media! I'll be talking to some expert guests alongside a bunch of really interesting folk to discuss the themes surrounding social - whether that's trolling, or becoming a viral sensation. I'll also throw in a few episodes featuring just myself, descending into rambled nonsense. If you're lucky you might be able to pluck out some actual insight here and there. Anyway, until the next episode... please send me suggestions for a better sign off! BYE!
