Pronounce words incorrectly
I’m wondering if the woman’s voice is AI. She pronounces “kohberger” as “kohlberger”. And she can’t pronounce Alantea correctly. It’s distracting

Season 2 and 3 just don’t need to happen
Season 2 and 3 are just people talking. The people that did it were caught and 2 even confessed to the murders, so they’re still going on about how it could be the cartels and some other random stuff…? The background music in season 3 is just too much. It’s this weird ethereal overly dramatic music, and they constantly cut to different speakers and use this annoying thunder sound to enhance whatever is said and make it sound more dramatic. This is just so overdramatic and seems to be dragging out the story.

Really excellent, but for one small thing…
I’d give this one five stars if it weren’t for the all-too-frequent advertisement breaks that last at least three minutes— that’s longer than commercial breaks on network television (average is around two to two and a half minutes). She always calls it a “quick” break, but it really isn’t, especially compared with most other podcasts I’ve heard. Otherwise, truly one of the best true crime podcasts I’ve ever listened to. Very excellent research and reporting, and I love that they don’t put all of the emphasis on the cops or the killers; they actually do a great job of making the Roden family feel like real, three dimensional people.

Hold the woke nonsense, please.
Would be a good podcast if they didn’t include all the woke nonsense language. He was given a warning from his traffic stops in Indiana because of his privilege? Please. Puke.

OBSESSED
I live right on the Ohio/Michigan border and couldn’t believe that I had never heard of this case! I was hooked instantly. I’m very picky when it comes to voices/tone of a podcast and the delivery of the story, so the fact I was hooked instantly is a big deal lol. I can honestly say that everyone on this podcast was great! The biggest downfall was how many freakin ads there are! It was like 2-3 minute long ads at the beginning, middle, and right before the end of a 30 minute episode, which was the most annoying part. I ended up doin the free trial just to skip the ads! I was confused seeing the same episodes repeated and didn’t really understand which 1 was better so I’d pick the one that was longer than the other? I would LOVE for these same people to do another series like this. I love listening to the story and about the trials of cases instead of just the summary. The interviews they did with family, friends, and experts were fascinating and informative. I 10/10 recommend everyone listening to this. I just can’t stand that it’s done and I can’t find another podcast like it. 🤣

Great, but the mispronunciation of words is driving me nuts.
Talk to locals here in WA State to find out how some of our locations are pronounced. Also, Dennis Rader’s name. They are easily googled, so I don’t understand.

Mispronunciation Station- Choo Choo!
Buccal. Hyundai. Elantra. Give this lady a word she can pronounce! All in all this is like true crime for dummies. They repeat the same information over and over again with a grade school teacher-like approach. Definitely the worst podcast I’ve listened to to-date, and I won’t be bothering to finish.

Loved it!!
Thank you for your hard work with the Piketon and Idaho murder cases. I really like how you tell the story and present the facts. I look forward to more from you guys!!

Where is the trial for Billy Wagner?
It was getting a little too commercial toward the end of season 4. I was expecting season 5 to be about the trial of Billy Wagner. I go to the episodes only to find it’s about a different crime altogether. Nice wrap up of Piketon. If there is a finish to Piketon I sure can’t find it. Sad.

Pronunciation matters.
At first, I figured the mispronunciation of Elantra bugged me because that’s what I drive. But then it kept going, just like the mispronunciation of Dennis Rader, and the use of “regime” instead of “regimen”. Also, the repetition and excessive ads really got to me. I hope the podcast staff take this constructive criticism to heart.

Mispronunciation station!
Too many commercials, it’s overwhelming! And the mispronunciation of many words including Hyundai (not Honda) and Elantra (E-lanta or E-lantra)… makes me crazy! Stephanie, you were so great in the other seasons!

Too many ads
Love the podcast.. way too many ads.

Which massacre is it?
This podcast was originally The Piketon Massacre but apparently that’s not good enough anymore so it’s been rebranded. It’s disrespectful to the Piketon victims to sweep them under the rug so you can get more listens.

Interesting Storyline
This podcast follows a wild storyline. It kept us second guessing ourselves on what we thought about who is guilty and how the murders happened throughout the series. Beware: the volume differences are INSANE!! It goes from a faint whisper to blaring into your ears within seconds and you never know what to expect with the volume.
Hey73
great, just a couple things..
good job, guys! i’m still listening! i love how you actually were able to get in contact with tons of the main characters in this case. if your sources weren’t directly involved, they were a seasoned retired judge, prosecutor, etc. it’s always helpful to hear outside opinions as well, and i love that guaranteed aspect of this podcast. the only thing im not super into, is the repetitive soundbites. i noticed i would be confused some episodes because the sound bites merely were used for shock value but they actually didn’t play a part in that specific episode i was listening to at that point. last thing, episodes could be consolidated leading up to court. i’m like, “LETS GET TO THE TRIAL ALREADY.” but overall, thumbs up. 👍🏼 🫶🏼

ads
so there’s what, 12 minutes TOPS of actual content? the ads are aggressive to the point where i’m left wondering what the point of this pod is - ad bucks seems to be beating actual journalism pretty solidly.

Been here since season 1
I am from Ohio so I began listening when I heard it was coming. Now, we are finishing season 4 and 5 is out. It’s really annoying that the podcast re-branded and also has the old title elsewhere. It is very confusing when finding the episodes for Piketon. In addition it’s not 50 episodes so that just clogs up the feed. If you want subscribers have a different location. We just want southeast Ohio podcast of this true crime. I’ll keep listening because it is good and shocking. Just difficult to scroll around due to all the changes.

Not real reporting
This was more the repeating of speculation and rumors then actual facts. The absolute butchering of certain words made it distracting. And why the heck are you including “privilege “ into this. Makes it sound so shallow and unnecessary.

Oh boy is this uh something
What a ghoulish exploitation of a (very recent!) tragedy, like why not step it up? Let’s do something bigger, I don’t know, what about sandy hook? Hmm… yeah, probably good money to be made there, definitely the only thing that matters — mmm money money money. Imagine being a family member listening to ads for a titillating new podcast; what’s it about? Oh, you’ll love it! It’s your dead kid! Or your cousin! Is that wound still fresh? We don’t care!

Skip episode 2
I thought this was going to exceptional. It’s all speculation. Episode two is filled with an old high school teacher and her voice is so broken it’s nearly impossible to listen too but she starts a plot that completely falls flat. 30 mins of absolutely no information but supposedly something bad happened. It’s absurd. I’m in episode three now and it’s all speculation. Nothing is a first hand account for actual evidence being presented. They actually said maybe they met on tinder. I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish it bc it’s pointless. It’s all maybe circumstantial conversation. Not even circumstantial evidence presented at all so far. They are just trying to make Brian look bad. And I think he did it based on what we know about DNA. However, they way they’ve set up this story is really hearsay. I haven’t heard anything about a fact yet.

Excellent!
I’ve listen to the Piketon massacre‘s, and now the Idaho massacre… I love how well done they are. I love that you take us step-by-step through all the processes and give some ideas and Insight, so I might they be thinking of certain things and certain angles. I always want to keep listening, and I can never wait for the next episode. Thank you and nice job

Pronunciation cringe 😐
I would give zero stars if I could based solely on the host’s pronunciation of things like (Hyundai) Elantra and Dennis Rader.
Murphs_Law
Opinions, mispronunciations and a guy who talks too fast
11 episodes of very little facts and a lot of opinion. Main host cannot pronounce things correctly even when she hears other people say them, i.e., Hyundai ELANTRA (a sponsor!) and “forward”, used many times each episode. I don’t care where you’re from, it’s not “faux-word”, there’s a pronounceable “r”. One guy talks so fast I thought I had it on 1.5 speed. Please fix it before next season.
JSPRQ
Zzzzzzzzz
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz…. Oh, I’m sorry, were you guys actually talking facts? Captivating the true crime community with intellect, truth and something, anything that’s not already public knowledge? Expressing compassion for the victims AND the victims they left behind? Conducting logical and ethical conversations based on educational, non biased, THOROUGH research? The answer to all of these questions is the EXACT same - NO. Absolutely NOT. Oh, oh, oh! And IF I actually stay awake, the monotone, indefinitely boring, scripted dialogue is PAINFUL. Total snooze fest!

Potentially harmful but entertaining
Frankly, I think this is unethical journalism—incredibly biased and wildly speculative—but entertaining. The hosts express concern about trial by media and then go on to do exactly that…

2.5 stars but I’ll give them 3 out of pity
Relieved to read that so many other listeners were bothered by the fluff reporting and frequent mispronunciations. This felt like such a sophomoric attempt at reporting on a serious case that garnered national attention. I really wish I hadn’t given them the benefit of the doubt and listened all the way through because it got worse each episode rather than better. Pass.

White Male Privilege
If you believe in white male privilege, this is the show for you. If you believe in individual responsibility, this show isn’t for you. Enjoyed the previous seasons. So disappointed with season 5.

Errors
I agree with other reviewer. Lots of simple errors. It’s a polished show, but to hear a host repeatedly mispronounce “Dennis Rader,” especially when there’s an expert guest who pronounces it correctly in the same episode, is mildly infuriating. Far from the only error, but the most glaring. Takes away from overall effect of series.
K-Flo5
Jumping on a big case for downloads
The first season was really thorough and the journalists had clearly followed the crime from the beginning. That said, the second season is kind of gross. The reporters seem to be latecomers to the story and are the-reporting known facts. I expected better from them.

Very far behind!
As a paid subscriber, I’m very disappointed how far behind this podcast is.
mikkibab
Poorly written/researched
Overly dramatic music, unnecessary “interviews” with fellow journalists and producers, learn how to say Latah and other Idaho/Washington locations (it’s NOT hard to look this up!), sloppy journalism all around interjected with tons of ads.

I can’t continue listening
I loved the Piketon Massacre but now I know it’s because I’m not personally familiar with that area or the people involved. I AM personally familiar with this case, the area, and the people. The mispronunciations, inconsistencies, and incorrect information that continue week after week is lazy and disrespectful. The Random Redditor was a joke. I’m unfollowing.
K&PGurl
Could be more professional
The amount of mispronounced words, names, and towns in this series make it very hard to listen to. It sounds so unprofessional. A small amount of research would solve the problem. For example: Latah County is pronounced Lay-taa. The conversations between the hosts sound so forced. Not going to be one of my returning podcasts.
Leigh2u
Started off ok but….
This had potential considering the magnitude of the events that occurred, but it ended up being shoddy journalism complete with mispronunciations galore… I’ll finish just to finish, but I wasn’t impressed. Why would you publish something rifled with mispronunciation? It just seems lazy and disrespectful
Chsjcjabxb
I thought I was the only one
I found myself yelling the correct pronunciations after “Radar” and “Elanntra”. Please find another host!

Couldn’t finish the podcast
The information was good, but the presentation was horrible. Not only did the entire podcast sound scripted, even when they were attempting dialogue, but the constant mispronunciation of words drove me crazy.

Need to fact check
I have noticed factual mistakes in almost every episode. Mispronunciations, incorrect dates, incorrect info about the girls’ workplaces and sororities. As a layperson, I should not be noticing these easily checked on facts. Err on the side of being respectful to the many, many victims related to this crime.

Not Jounalism
You have a reddit rabbit holer on the podcast - obviously no expectation of being a serious, professional journalist- serious harm to their reputations.

Why the comment?
What was the comment about white men? So are incels only white now? Is that a thing? I have been curious about this case for a while and I thought I would finally get caught up on the whole situation and then I hear idiotic statements like that. I don’t know if I really feel like finishing this. I may try to find another podcast that is covering the story. It’s too bad honestly, I thought the coverage and presentation here was well done.

Random Redditor
I thought the constant mispronunciation of RadER as radar was bad then you all interview some random guy spreading rumor. He’s not even coherent. This used to be a great pod
Justice for Abby and Libby
There are better podcasts on this subject out there.
This is an amateur podcast: the repeated mispronunciation of Dennis Rader and Elantra, the misuse of “alleged”, the grammatical errors, the continued asking of questions that they never answer. The podcast lacks direction and content. They could probably have done this in two episodes.
AFort
Why??
I would like to know why no one talks about the surviving roommates?? Now that’s a story. Why did they do nothing for 8 hours? No one addresses this. I’ve watched documentary about this case. Nothing.

First season was great second season not so much
This season is ehh probably bc the trial has not began so everything that is being reported is inform that is available in the news

Season 5 episode 3 racism
The statement about how white men get violent when they get rejected…. When is enough of this anti white racism! Unsubscribed because I do t tolerate hate against anyone! Pure narrative trash host for tolerating it and the guest for saying it!

Interesting but mediocre quality
Interesting analysis of a developing case but I cringed every time the host pronounced Dennis Rader’s name as “radar.” Amateur mistakes that make the podcast seem unprofessional.

A Lot of Talk for Zero Info
I really wanted to like this show because I loved their other podcast, but this is not good. Too much speculation with zero facts and zero connections with those actually involved in the case. Do better team, this is amateur reporting.

Great podcast but the pronunciation killed me.

Pronunciation of the county name
The Idaho county where the murders took place is pronounced Lay-taw. Emphasis on the first syllable, long A sound in the first syllable, second syllable rhymes with saw.
