Brandi Braker
Hey, y'all! Welcome to Pride Month on The Picky Bookworm! Brandi Braker is an author, who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and was an amazing guest to have to chat! She is a poetry author, who had plenty of recommendations for fellow poetry authors, as well as fellow indie authors. She's a huge advocate for indie authors, and spends much of her time supporting them. She was an incredible addition to The Picky Bookworm community, and I hope you'll head over to her links to support her and her work!Brandi's Milkshake (All her Links)Author Recommendations:Katie TrappSkye QuinlanMichaela GoddingKristen PerrinMarcus LeeTrudie SkiesKristy GardnerI didn't get to mention Trudie Skies in the podcast, but they wrote The Cruel Gods series that I got to read a while back, and the series was AMAZING. I believe they identify as non-binary. Even if this weren't Pride month, I'd recommend them, but this seems like a particularly good time to lift them up. I hope you enjoyed this episode! Don't forget to subscribe, and come back next week for another amazing episode! Until Next Time, Friends!

Mark H Newhouse
Mark joined me on The Picky Bookworm this week, and I had SUCH a blast! It turned out to be kind of funny, because he commented on his age at one point, and I admitted I didn't know how old he was when I invited him on. It turned out to be perfect, because it felt like sitting with my grandpa, listening to him talk about his life. He talked about his books, Devil's Bookkeepers, and what inspired them. His parents were survivors of Auschwitz during the Holocaust and immigrated to the US when Mark was very small. This chat was amazing, and enlightening, and incredible. I hope you enjoy as much as I did!Hang out with Mark online:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mark.newhouse.904Website: http://markhnewhouse.comDevil's Bookkeepers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NGJ7HGWDefenders of Monstrovia Podcast is available on the following platforms: Amazon, Google, Apple, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and GoGoGo. It's a dramatization of his kid's books of the same name. I'll take a listen and be sure to let you know what I think!I really had an absolute blast during this episode, and I hope you enjoy, as well! Mark did have to set me straight about a couple things, which I never mind. I hate when things make sense in my mind, but don't get verbalized right, but when people are willing to tell me, "Hey, that doesn't sound right," it helps me make sure I'm communicating what I mean in a more sensitive way. I hope you can take a lesson from my mistakes and know that no one is perfect! I've never claimed to be perfect, and understanding that our words do have an impact, whether we mean them the way they sound or not, is important. If I sound frustrated, it's at myself, not at Mark, so please take his correction in the spirit it's meant. I love all of you and want to make sure this community always remains the kind and wonderful place it's always been. Until Next Time, Friends!

Okie Bookcast
J Hall with Okie Bookcast joins me this week on The Picky Bookworm podcast! It's always fun having a fellow podcaster to join in the fun, but having a fellow Okie is especially enjoyable! J spends his podcast time highlighting authors from Oklahoma, which is interesting, considering our state isn't really known for having a huge literary community. I learned a lot from this episode (did you know there's a PIGEON museum in Oklahoma City?!!?) and found a few new books to add to my TBR! I hope you enjoy! This week's book recommendationsCalling for a Blanket Dance by Oscar HokeahShark Heart by Emily HabeckChildren of the Neon Bamboo by B. Glenn KimmeyHang out with J!LinkTree: lintr.ee/okiebookcastJ and I had a blast talking this week, so I hope you enjoy as much as we did!
