Review of The Next Track Podcast
I listen to The Next Track Podcast, very frequently. They have an extremely informative and entertaining Podcast, with an interesting twist on Music and how it’s consumed. They have vast experiences to draw from, but with a slight bias towards Rock, and Pop music. I enjoy alternate takes on Music, but I disagree with their reports on the use of A/M-Fm radio, and it’s ubiquity. Most Vehicles still have AM-FM radios, and they are still the most listened-to form of Music today. Radio stations and Record labels pushed the customers away from CD’s to prevent duplication and to reform the market for how Artists are paid, and many of us disagree about the so-called inconvenience of CD’s and DVD’s. I believe that Tge Next Track has more direct, in-depth, full understanding, knowledge of the Music business and the distribution of Music, than any other Podcast, and I highly recommend following and listening to their Podcast.

Equal to my level of "audiophile" skepticism
I found this podcast after reading a Q&A from one of the hosts in an "audiophile" forum. After looking at the list of episodes, I was happy to see that they included interviews with classical music artists and journalists. The hosts evince a nice balance of "audiophile" skepticism with appreciation of quality sound reproduction. I'm working my way through back episodes and already enjoy their interviews with Andy Doe. Keep up the good work and I'm glad this podcast has maintained a consistent publication schedule, unlike other audiophile podcasts that peter out.

Authentic??
There are some very positive qualities related to this podcast. For example, the quality of the audio voices of both hosts. Now, when I first started listening, I was impressed by the apparent diverse musical interests of the hosts. However, the longer I listened, I became genuinely suspicious that your talking with enthusiasm about pop music and, for example, the music of John Cage, is a cheap marketing ploy. An attempt, perhaps, to be the “Renaissance Men Of Music” (and books, philosophy, equipment, formats, style, etc.)? I’m just not buying this. This is not, I think, authentic. As one other reviewer suggested, it is absurd to negatively portray the skills of a composer like Rachmaninoff and at the same time wet your pants about some of that entertaining pop music that you do often mention. I just can’t take you seriously any longer...finding it difficult to listen with any sense of belief or purpose. Are you just looking stuff so that you can pontificate on an episode? Often sounds like it...rather manufactured approach. Please...find a niche that is authentic to your skills, experiences, etc., and run with that versus trying to portray yourselves as the Renaissance Men that you so obviously are not. You COULD have a good show...but...

You’re too hard on Amazon HD!
I get the marketing terminology mixup and it’s not great. But having their 50M song catalog available at CD quality at a minimum is great and well worth the upgrade. I hear artifacts in the compressed versions on a lowly iPhone that I don’t have to put up with anymore. I appreciate 24 bit files, but I’m fine with CD resolution. iPhones can do 24 bit. The benefits of higher than 48 kHz are debatable. I’m enjoying not hearing the compressed phasing on every cymbals hit!

I'm Done
I've actually been a subscriber to this show since the very beginning. Lately though I think they've gotten away from the show's original intent; to be a show about "how people listen to music today." As of late for the most part, its become a show about Doug and Kirk's love of progressive rock. In my opinion, they've turned into one-trick ponies that never do any shows on say jazz, for example. The final straw for me came when Kirk mocked Rachmaninoff as a composer. This from a guy who is obsessed with the Grateful Dead.

Death of the Stereo?
As a single "thing" to buy, you are right that the "stereo" is dead. In my home, I have the video system setup in living room. We have streaming through the home, but single speakers. Its the new 'radio' in our home. Then I have a 2-channel system with streamer, DAC and integrated amp. There is a second input from the PC. This is a near field setup... $2,500 of components. The new stereo and the best sound in the house. Thanks for the show. Great exchanged between the two of you.

Great podcast
Thank you guys for this well thought out and informed podcast. You actually reconverted me to pay more attention to music, think about the experience of listening to it again, and reconnect with, egads, ALBUMS!!!😉 Looking forward to more episodes.

Still compelling after 100 plus episodes
Exactly what you want from a show with this focus. Importantly, they bring experts instead of shooting the breeze--common problem of podcasts in general. Also, like the interesting musicians profiled on the show...may not all be my cup of tea, but well considered.

The Next Track Rocks & all that Jazz
Topics covered on 'The Next Track' are really interesting. After I heard a couple episodes, I started to go back and listen to them all. The more I listen, the more I learned about my favorite past time of listening to music and how to make it better. It's not only the subject matter but also the professional quality in which it is presented. I give high praise to hosts Doug, Kirk and their guests. The format is tight and easily keeps my attention. The last segment of the show is 'The Next Track' feature where Kirk and Doug discuss what they plan to listen to next. Their 'Next Tracks' have turned me on to new artists, new pieces of music and/or helped me rediscover lost gems.

It's become my favorite podcast
I've always had a love for audio equipment, and somewhere in my 20s I realized what I actually loved was music. Kirk & Doug always keep things interesting, and don't waste my time with pointless inside gags and chit chat as so many podcasts seem to do. I especially like it when Andy Doe is on as a guest busting up audiophile myths. Overall just very interesting, and not something you want to miss if you still find active listening to music a passion of yours. Definitely 5 stars.

THE Podcast for Music and HiFi Lovers!
I'm glad to see these guys are still making podcasts. I'm a lover of classic rock and HiFi equipment and really enjoy this podcast. These two very talented and knowledgeable music guys share their experiences in a very down-to-earth fashion. It's like me and my friends sitting down and talking about music, concerts and stereo equipment. I always learn something, and I like hearing about music trivia and other subjects that come up. Many shows feature guests who always have something interesting to add.

Thanks guys - Awesome
Very happy I stumbled across The Next Track. As a 60-ish audio fanatic, I’ve always had a healthy addiction to music. I enjoy the podcast very much and have listened to most of the past episodes too. I find myself listening to stuff I’d missed, forgotten or never heard of in the first place. You even opened my eyes to the music services - which I thought were variants of Pandora. I chose Tidal and in the past couple weeks followed your next tracks to hear some Hound Dog Taylor and Joe Cocker. Even listened to some Dead (but still can’t get into it). Each to his own. Keep it up and thanks.

Informative. Reliable. Amusing
This is a great series of podcasts. For me as a musician it’s very informative of things haven’t have enough time to be up to. Each episode flows easily. They cover a variety of topics related to recorded music and even spoken word like audiobooks which make each episode enlightening. The next track segment, most of the time, leads me to something new or to revisit something I had listen to before. Congratulations!!!

Best music podcast
I discovered this podcast rather late, even though I have followed Doug and Kirk for other tech related topics. I'm still catching up on the podcast, listening to an episode every day. Best podcast for music and music listening related topics I have found. It is reenergizing my interest in music and Hi-Fi.

Another interesting podcast
Krik and Doug frequently have guests that are as entertaining (and informative) as those two are. The latest podcast had Chris Connaker (Of Computer Audiophile) on the show. He is a semi regular and is expert in advising those who are intererested in computer audio. I never miss an episode of The Next Track. The show has led me to better utilizing and enjoying my phone computer and iPad. Both of the authors are very accessible - it is like having a private consultant or better yet a close neighbor who is an interesting computer geek!!

Huge nerds, but I love them
I'd say that I love this podcast 200% but I feel the only correct way to say that is to say that I love it 880 Hz. This show is nerdy, sometimes embarrassingly so, but its only embarrassing becuase you recognize yourself in what you hear. They go deep on digital music, audiophilia, "artisanal Japanese electricity poles" (an apparent show favorite). Anyway, I've learned a lot listening to it. I love Kirk but wish Doug would talk more - he makes great points (often informed by an endearing 80s radio perspective). Change the theme song though, guys. I KNOW one of you can come up with something better than that.

Consistently Interesting & Crisply Produced
The Next Track fills a niche that needed filling: it offers an intelligent and wide-ranging consideration of the way in which we listen to music today. And it fills that niche with class and panache: it's nicely produced, it doesn't plod, and — clocking in at around a half hour — it never wears out its welcome. It's the very model of what a podcast should do. Great stuff!

Great stuff.. found you via Jeffrey Norman interview and now I keep listening to more and more

Very Informative podcast
Very information and helpful podcasts. I really like the episodes with Chris from Computer Audiophile because he has discussed topics and products that are of great interest to me.

Interesting, if occasionally repetitive
I'd love to hear more about "how people listen to music today" (as the podcast is supposed to be about) instead of more and more how middle-aged white audiophile podcast hosts listen with gear that most people simply do not have. That said, I do like the occasionally very interesting episodes - like the one interviewing Paul K. from Rogue Amoeba, or the episode just on Bob Dylan.

Interesting digital audio info
This is a very interesting podcast that looks at all types of digital audio, whether iTunes, Hi-Res Audio files and different means of playback. Consisentely interesting and well produced.

Kudos
I'm here to rate and write because this is one of my favorite podcasts, and I listen regularly to more than a dozen.

Helpful, Informative Podcast
Doug and Kirk pick interessting topics and provide clear and helpful information and advice. They are always careful to explain everthing and not assume too much knowledge on the part of listeners. An extra star when they have Andy Doe as a guest - he is always great to listen to.

Informative
I've been reading and listening to Kirk for over 15 years, and have also been following Doug for about that long. These 2 are a great resource for all things iTunes and music in general. They also get techy as needed without getting to complex to understand. If you enjoy music, who doesn't, and want to get more, give these guys a listen. With great topics, guests, and a very reasonable show length, you're bound to get hooked.

One of the best!
It's rare to find a podcast that is both intelligent and entertaining. Add in informative, and frequently surprising, and you've got a very special series, worth following.

Why you should give it a listen
I've listened to every episode of "The Next Track" and have learned something from each one of them. If you're a heavy user of music on computers/cell phones/tablets - whether it's your own stuff or a streaming service - listening to this podcast will teach you how to organize your music better, how to make smarter choices about where to go to find music you like, how to get better quality sound out of your equipment. Along the way, the hosts have fun and dispel some of the sillier audio myths. Final thought: if Doug and Kirk charged for this, I'd gladly pay.

Outstanding!
Honestly, I rarely ever write reviews but this podcast, and these gentlemen, deserve it. The podcast is an excellent source of information and entertainment about music in the digital age. Their love of music is evident throughout every podcast and their open minded acceptance of ALL types of music is refreshing. Great common sense information from two genuine experts in this field. HIGHLY recommended!

Clear, Concise, Quick Advice
Good podcast from two experta that is "all killer, no filler." A tight 30 minutes devoted to, usually, a single topic.

Excellent podcast for tech oriented music listeners
What a pleasure it is listening to this podcast. It is refreshing to hear intelligent in-depth discussion about current sophisticated aspects of audio not focused on in traditional audio podcasts. Well done. I look forward to many more episodes.

Thanks Doug and Kirk!
I've been reading and listening to these guys for years when it comes to music and iTunes. I'm so glad that they decided to take the time to make a podcast together. My question is: how in the world did they reach through my Mac and without any input from me, come up with 10 (and counting) excellent podcasts that cover every subject that I would want them to cover? Great start guys and keep up the good work here. For those of you looking for a great podcast to listen to about music and they way folks consume music now (and have consumed it in the past) give this podcast a listen. It is time well spent!

Terrific series
This is a very helpful, informative series. Thanks very much to both Doug and Kirk for the investment of time and effort to produce shows that scratch where I itch. It's still a zoo out there in iTunes land or wherever one tries to archive a music collection, especially for classical music nerds like me, but the fact that Kirk is also a confessed classical fan drew me to this podcast. I have learned some very useful things in episodes 1, 2, and 3, and there's more to hear, so let me get back to it....

The iTunes Experts Speak!!!
As someone who has downloaded and purchased Applescripts from Doug Adams for many years and I'm glad that he and Kirk have finally started a podcast. It has great information and useful tips. Keep it up! I hope you'll eventually take listener questions for future episodes.

Fills a Hole
The Next Track is the perfect podcast for me: music-obsessed and technology-oriented. It contains the type of conversations I'd have if people didn't roll their eyes when I start excitedly veering off into a tangent on music.

Fantastic Podcast

Loving TNT
Thanks, Doug and Kirk! I really enjoy the podcast. As a 44 year old music buff, I've listened to records, LP's, cassettes, 8-tracks, CD's, and mp3's - and your podcast is right up there with all of them. I also like the 30-minute format.
