Episode 113 of The Movie Robcast sees the Robs in the same physical space for the first time since December! In the shadow of the BFI IMAX at Waterloo they run through multiple movie related topics. First up is Emerald Fennell’s Oscar-nominated and BAFTA winning Promising Young Woman, featuring a first rate performance from Carey Mulligan, also nominated for Hollywood’s most coveted award.
This leads into a discussion of the Oscar nominations ahead of the ceremony, taking place on Monday 26th April.
To finish off the episode, the Robs get all lizard-monkey-smashy-smashy as they talk Godzilla vs. Kong. What will they make of the latest Monsterverse smackdown?

In episode 112, Robs Daniel & Wallis are joined by frequent Robcast contributor Ian Bird to talk all things Justice League, the Snyder Cut. Mr. Bird is rather positive of this 4-hour version of the little-loved 2017 film, Rob D was not a fan, and Rob W is somewhere in the middle, looking for unity.
The three also make time for a quick capsule take on the latest Marvel series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Does it look to be as must-watch as WandaVision?

It’s been a minute since our last episode so #110 is a bumper wrap-up of what the Robs have been watching.
First, the shocking revelation that Gerard Butler has made a good movie with end-of-days disaster movie Greenland, currently available on Amazon Prime.
Next up is Tom Hanks in the Paul Greengrass western News of the World, now on Netflix. The Robs are usually pretty simpatico, but this movie sees one Rob far more enthusiastic than the other.
Rob Wallis then reviews the Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield Black Panther drama, Judas and the Black Messiah. Rob Daniel discusses a brace of extraordinary documentaries, Adam Curtis’ Can’t Get You Out of My Head and Ryan White’s Assassins.
To take us home, Rob W discusses why you should make time for Viggo Mortensen’s directorial debut, Falling, starring Lance Henriksen, Laura Linney and Mortensen himself.

In episode 109 Robs Daniel & Wallis review the opening two instalments of WandaVision, the first Marvel series to hit Disney+. Happily, they find plenty to talk about. Not that our intrepid casters in pod are ever stuck for words. Before moving onto the wonders WandaVision has in store, they find room to take a farewell swipe at the Trump administration and discuss how amazing the cast lists were for episodes of ITV’s Marple.
Rob Wallis also the braved that David Bowie biopic Stardust and reports back. He really is a star, man.

In episode 108 the Robs review the much-delayed Wonder Woman 1984. As this ep was recorded on the 23rd December 2020 there are some Christmas references and no mention of the 6th January’s insurrection in the Capitol Building, despite plenty of Trump and America talk.
Critical opinion of WW84 has been mixed, to put it kindly, but we found plenty to enjoy in Diana Prince’s second solo outing. One thing we neglected to say in the episode is to stick around for a rather lovely mid-end credit sequence.

For most, 2020 was the worst year in memory. Light in the darkness however came not from movie projectors, but the glow of TV screens as we were all forced inside for most of the year.
While many major films were shunted back to 2021, 2020 was still a quality year for the movies. In this episode the Robs, ably assisted by a roster of special guests including The Honeymoon Period podcast, review the past 12 months in filmland.
There have been wonderful highs, including Parasite, Shirley, Possessor, Mangrove, Saint Maud, Host, and Portrait of a Lady of Fire amongst others.
Not everything has been rosy, and subpar movies were led by the self-satisfied banality of Tenet.
One other bright spot is that 2020 is the inaugural year of The Robbies, a set of awards we've decided to give? Listen on to hear who wins Best Actor, Actress, Script and so on. It's like the Oscars, but with fewer songs and under 5 hours long. We also end with The Movie Robcasts' Top 10 of 2020.
In a year where there hasn’t been much to cheer about, the movies have delivered once again.
As always, thanks for listening and here’s to getting back into cinemas next year.

Episode 106 of The Movie Robcast sees Robs Daniel & Wallis joined by friend of the podcast and regular contributor Adrian Zak. The three discuss the new David Fincher film, Mank, which tells the story of Herman J. Mankiewicz, co-writer of Citizen Kane. Or the sole writer of Citizen Kane if you believe the tack taken in this new Netflix movie.
Rob Wallis also gives his thoughts on The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. What does Rob make of Francis Ford Coppola’s re-edit of the not-much-loved The Godfather Pt. III? Listen on to find out, although bear in mind there are a couple of spoilers. However, the film’s new title is itself the biggest spoiler.
Finally, something very strange happened to our intrepid casters in pod after wrapping the initial episode. Stay tuned at the end to find out what…

Episode 105 of The Movie Robcast is a case of “you’re gonna need a bigger boat”.
Originally Elaine and Mark Gregersen of The Honeymoon Period podcast were meant to be guest speakers in our Jaws 45th anniversary episode. But it turns out having four guests on, all of whom know their Jaws onions, would put the episode at three hours plus or mean cutting out some Jawsome chat.
So, we present Elaine and Mark on Jaws Revisited, a sequel to episode 105. And bucking the trend of Jaws sequels, this one is as good as the original!
In a bumper review, Elaine and Mark recount seeing Jaws with a live orchestra, the head in the boat, possibly the best kitchen table scene in film history, and why that guy in The Pond is not to be trusted…
After listening, we strongly urge you to check out The Honeymoon Period, available wherever you get your podcasts.

Episode 104 of The Movie Robcast takes a deep dive into the wonders of Jaws, quite simply one of the finest films ever made.
To mark the movie’s 45th anniversary, Robs Daniel & Wallis are joined by Jaws-ophiles, and friends of the show, Sarah Johnson and Adrian Zak. Together they discuss what makes Steven Spielberg’s game changing movie a masterpiece.
In an epic review, our cinematic seafarers discuss the legendarily difficult shoot, differences between book and film (needs less Mafia and adultery), the unusual casting, the score and why the shark is still working almost 50 years later.
A Jaws discussion would not be complete without venturing into the troubled waters of the sequels, and the relatively calmer currents of the Jaws rip-offs and “homages”. No Jaws sequel comes close to the greatness of Piranha, Orca or The Shallows.
During the episode, Sarah mentions a YouTube video featuring enhanced shark FX for a sequence in Jaws: The Revenge. Watch that clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdWt86k6qBA
Also, when discussing a film like Jaws it’s only fitting that we’d need a bigger podcast. So, check out episode 105 for Jaws Revisited, in which we are joined by Elaine and Mark Gregersen of The Honeymoon Period for a fin-tastic chat!
