Do you remember when you first got your period? Did you loudly proclaim “I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR!” or did you quietly tuck your tampon up your sleeve as you headed to the school bathroom?
As women, society has conditioned us to feel shame around a natural occurrence that happens to us EVERY month (with hormone fluctuations that span 30 days for most!!!) while we soldier on, acting as if none of it is happening.
Well, this ends with us.
In this week’s episode Claire & Christina share their own history with menstruation shame and detail how they foster a period positive household.
They also touch on period poverty, talking with sons about periods and ways to create an open & empowering dialogue with their daughters.

TW: Childhood Trauma/ Domestic Violence
In the United States, 34.8 million children—nearly half of American children—are exposed to adverse childhood experiences (ACES).
These traumatic events include things like: physical/ emotional abuse, neglect, substance abuse in the home, parental dynamics (domestic violence/ divorce), sexual abuse, mental illness in the home and more.
According to studies, childhood traumas have a long-term impact. They can rearrange the brain, lower self-esteem, complicate relationships, and reside in the body, sometimes prompting medical and somatic concerns.
So what happens when those children grow up and raise children of their own? Where does that trauma go? How do they navigate it?
In this week’s episode Christina shares her own experience with childhood traumas, how it has informed her parenting and gets vulnerable about the realities of being triggered AND healed through her motherhood experience.
If you are somebody you know has been affected by childhood trauma or are experiencing trauma as a parent, there are resources to help.

As a special needs parent, one of the biggest bones of contention, stress and ongoing growth is in advocating for your child’s education.

Learning it all feels like working a full time job.In this week’s episode we share our experiences with individualized education plans (IEPs) for our daughters — Autism for Christina’s daughter, ADHD for Claire’s — and how we navigate push back within the system, offering tips for moms in the same situation.
It’s an episode we wish we had listened to when we first entered the emotional rollercoaster of advocacy and we hope it brings understanding & solidarity to our listeners.

Do you remember the feeling you got as a kid when the days started getting warmer and the school days began to disappear?
Summer was coming and you knew that it was going to be two months of freedom! With days spent playing in the pool, sleeping in till noon, hanging with your friends and not coming home until the street lights came on.
Cue to summer as a parent and things are…different.
Gone are the days of free-range kids and YOU are the summer cruise director, in charge of making sure everyone gets to where they need to go and are constantly having a good time.
We are tasked with ensuring our children are making “core memories”, while we lose time to ourselves, manage child care shifts and work alongside a routine that’s been shaken.
It’s fine, we’re fine! In this week’s episode Claire & Christina share their take on summer stressors and how they navigate them while keeping their sanity.

Motherhood was never meant to be experienced alone.
Since the beginning, moms have raised children alongside other women in their “village”— a collective of moms who lent a hand, shared in childcare, offered wisdom and more.
As generations have shifted, this communal dynamic has taken a hit and although we are in a time where we are more “connected” than ever, motherhood can feel extremely isolating.
“Where the F*&K is the village?!” — This is what Claire & Christina lament in the intro of every episode to the podcast and in this week’s episode we dive into the question.
Does the village still exist? What does it look like? How do we connect to it?
And more importantly…how can WE be the village for others.
Join the moms as they answer these questions, share their experiences and reimagine the village for current times.

Giving birth should be a joyous occasion, at least in theory (minus the pain and exhaustion!)
But you certainly don't expect to leave the delivery room with a potentially life altering nerve injury, caused by something that happened during labor.
Unfortunately, for a small percentage of moms - including Claire - that's exactly what happened to them.
In this week’s episode, Claire and Christina chat with guest Paula Wroble who founded a support group for moms with nerve damage, after she became injured while giving birth to her first child,
Paula shares some of her own story and provides useful advice on how to stay safe during labor.
This episode also coincides with Maternal Injury in Childbirth Awareness Month which runs throughout May.
Have you suffered nerve damage from labor?
If so, we’d love you to contact us at [email protected], or via the ways listed below.
