The Battle That Defined WWII
Returning guest, Bob Drury brings you right into the thick of the clash that became one of the bloodiest and most costly encounters of World War II. “Rudder’s Rangers,” the most elite and experienced attack unit in the United States Army climbed the cliffs at Omaha Beach, captured the port of Brest, and for their final major mission were tasked with taking the war into Hitler’s homeland as the tip of the Army’s spearhead. The battalion was given two objectives in December 1944. Storm Castle Hill located in the hellish Hurtgen Forest, the gateway to Germany, and hold the hill by any means possible. To the last man, if necessary. Unknown to the Allied forces, the Nazi regiments were given the same exact order.
