Dustin Garrett comes on to talk about songwriting and some of his most memorable words to live by, heavily influenced by the late Don Caldwell, and other greats of the Lubbock scene. Dustin is a West Texas boy who was in the last graduating class in Spade, TX, yodeled on the Grand Ole Opry at 10, made it to the finals in LA at the House of Blues (before it was torn down) for the Guitar Center King of the Blues competition, and has toured with many bands as a lead guitar player, including Rick Trevino most recently.
The first half of the interview was actually lost, so I plan to head out to NMJC in Hobbs, NM where Dustin is now Professor/Director of Entertainment & Music Technology, in order to redo the first half. In good spirits, Dustin was great with that idea.
Personally, as a songwriter and musician, this has been one of my favorite episodes and Dustin is the epitome of work ethic and professionalism combined with pure skill and talent that I aspire toward. I cannot wait to get ya'll part 2 from Hobbs in a couple weeks. For now, enjoy!

Father's Day is coming up this Sunday, and I thought I'd take the time to talk about why I think it is so important to celebrate our Fathers. Honor Your Father and Mother - a commandment with a promise, that you will have long life in the land.
The Kirks received the farm family of the year award from the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce this year - so I talk a little bit about that and our family history, and my mom recorded 99% of the speech I gave when me and my dad accepted the award, so I shared that as well.

Marty Gilbert has mentored me (JRK) off and on since I was 15. In my faith, music, and what it means to walk the talk, practice what you preach, and just love on people. We also jammed out a while on the piano and my kids ran in circles around the house while he played cotton eyed Joe, stay tuned for the end of the episode to hear it (and see it on Spotify)

JRK sits down with Adam, Garrett, and Alec to discuss politics from a high level view - occassionally trying to fact check/ keep an accurate record of events, current and in the past, but mostly getting a pulse of what Americans are currently feeling about the upcoming election. With a convicted felon in Trump, and an aging Biden, what choices do we have? Specifically, how can Christians navigate the waters of choosing the "lesser of two evils"?

AUDIO HAS BEEN UPDATED, SORRY FOR THE DELAY! JRK and Hartlee talk about what it looks like practically living a biblical principle and in doing so give a life update on what they’re doing, where they’re at, and why they built a house in a barn.

Daniel Stanton is an entrepreneur, in the truest sense, and as you’ll see from this episode, he has been his whole life. Through many tragedies, he, his wife, and his children continued to recover and push to new heights as a family and through their many business ventures, through, according to Daniel, simple hard work and faith. He now owns Stanton Supply in Idalou (formerly Feed n Thangs, feed/hardware store), multiple Fuddruckers restaurants, the largest catering business in Lubbock, and many more endeavors including being a real estate agent and a disaster insurance adjuster. Please stop by one of his many businesses to support them and their endeavors to give back to the community through meeting needs where they can! If you enjoy the podcast, you can support me by streaming my music (Jordan Robert Kirk), purchasing merch through my website jordanrobertkirk.com - or simply sharing this episode with a friend who might enjoy it. The Vintner (winemaker) and vinedresser (vineyard/grape farmer) seemed a little too confusing of a title to grab y’all’s eyes. Garrett is a good friend and I
want y’all to go buy a bunch of wine and tell all your friends to do the same. He will be
back next week to discuss CS Lewis’ “The Weight of Glory” with me

JRK and Hartlee talk about some things they've been working on recently to strengthen their marriage and family life.
The book we reference during the show is called “Parenting from the Tree of Life”, and if you are in the area, we are getting a list of parents to go through it together. Whether you have babies or older kids, it is instructive in every way, and we will also revisit other concepts from the book on upcoming episodes.
