Ferris Bueller once wisely said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." While that shouldn't encourage us to do things like skip school (though that is a great movie), it's true that life moves pretty fast - sometimes so much so that it seems like more than we can handle. However, we are not alone in this feeling. The Blessed Mother experienced this in a profound way when the angel Gabriel appeared to her and announced that she was to be the Mother of God. Although she was greatly troubled by this and could not comprehend everything this task would entail, Mary didn't let fear have the final say; instead, she said yes to God's plan and took the next step "with haste" (Lk 1:39 RSV). St. Joseph was chosen from all men to be the foster father of Jesus. This shows us how much our Lord values Joseph's intercession, and why we can look to Joseph as a father figure in our own lives. Pope Francis actually declared that this liturgical year (December 8, 2020 - December 8, 2021) is dedicated to this holy man.
