Chris was the lead investigator on the case. The assailant, Brandon Wilson, 20, used a 4-inch knife on his victim. He confessed to the murder and showed Chris in one of the most chilling videotaped police interviews ever shared how he did it. Wilson was convicted, sentenced to death, and sent to San Quentin Prison's death row. While in prison, Wilson unlived himself in 2011. After nine days, Smith confessed to police that she drove her car, with her boys strapped in their car seats inside, into John D. Long Lake. Smith was convicted of two counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison - at Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood, South Carolina - with a possibility of parole after 30 years. She is up for parole on Nov. 4, 2024.
