TW: this episode talks about racism, the N-word, and it's impacts.
In this episode, we decided to wing it and see where it will take us. This ended up with Linda telling us a story about her experience with being told the N-word while on a walk at the River Valley. In this episode, Linda talks about the burden that Black people are forced often to carry and the consequences the N-word has on a Black person when it is used as a weapon by people who are not Black. We particularly, discussed how that word ruined Linda's day and how that painful experience affected her mental health.
Ultimately our message went back to the importance of people understanding that they cannot say the N-word under any circumstance when they are not Black. We call upon our white allies to show up and support Black people, especially when you see something wrong, say something. We want to shed light on how our silence's roles in the continuation of bad behaviour, racism, and gaslighting.
B, Jo, and Linda bring this episode to an end by talking about white people calling out their friends, family, co-coworker, or anyone that is not Black when they use the N-word. This burden shouldn't be on Black people; it is up to the white people to keep other white people accountable when they are racist. We want to thank Linda for using her experience, as hard as it was to talk about, as an opportunity to open up this conversation a remind us all about the impact words have on people and their mental health.
We hope you enjoy this episode and that you learned something new to be better and grow. To the Black Community, please take care of yourself. You are beautifully made.
