Episode 19 2024 Rod Blake
We were privileged to speak with Rod Blake who began his career with Geelong in 1971, after being recruited from Inverleigh in the Geelong and District Football League. Rod’s career at Kardinia Park stretched to 1983, reaching 176 games in the hoops; booting 113 goals along the way. He enjoyed a stellar season in 1980 winning the Carji Greeves Medal and finishing just four votes behind eventual winner Kelvin Templeton in the Brownlow Medal. Rod was also privileged to wear the Big V on three occasions in interstate football.

Following a recent catch-up with Michael Woolnough - a man who graced the wings of Kardinia Park between 1971 and ‘78 - we were fortunate to be joined by his son Marc, a player who had two cracks at Geelong around the turn of the century. At the time there was good reason to believe that we had an outstanding, 200-game player in our midst, however, sadly, a succession of serious injuries cruelly limited Marc’s time at Kardinia Park to six games.
