Great, Epic
Great show. Long form, but detailed and always full of interesting discussions. Not quite the replacement to Hollywood Saloon I was hoping for, but I'll take what I can get, may it rest in peace. Keep up the excellent job.

Awesome
It's the best film discussion podcast...hands down.

Awesome Podcast!
One of the things that makes this such a great show is that it's not just the host and guests opinions, there are facts about the films discussed, insights to the filmmaking process, and well thought out and developed ideas. When listening to the gauntlet, I feel like I'm listening to a professor giving a lecture... In a good way!

John Jansens at it again!
Great podcast. I used to listen to The Hollywood Saloon and really missed the great in-depth discussions, from Mr. Jansen, on topics that I love. Movies!!! Great to hear him again!

Excellent
Can't wit for more shows and they are already churning them out faster than Hollywood Saloon, love the cast, the guys all hold their own with film knowledge and great discussion, not just listing off of facts. Jansen does such a great job here it makes you wonder who was really behind the hollywood saloon success. The man has got the knowledge and the the love. There is a tremendous amount of interviews and music edited in for a great listening experience. Album art is so cool too, some of the best, and I thought the saloons was good.

Like Christmas in March!
I was just re-listening to some of my favorite Hollywood Saloon casts and googled John to see what he's been up to since. Lo and behold - six substantial episodes of a whole new podcast series! What a gift. I'm still on the first one and savoring every minute.

2 Awesome Shows!!!!!!
The Skyfall show was excellent. I actually discovered your pervious podcast because of the last James Bond movie. It was a great discussion about the movie and the history of the franchise. And then you gave your fans a holiday gift w/ another show. I was shocked about the news. It was great to hear the information, all the opinions, and the type of Star Wars Movies you guys thought would work. I also like hearing from different people. I know Empire was the best but because of my age and when I saw it, I love Jedi. Keep the shows coming in the new year. Thank you!!!!!!!

Fantastic Voyage
What John Jansen and his crew have put together is something very special. This show is casual, but highly informative and entertaining at the same time. It's not full of blustery hyperbole with one person yelling at the other and all opinions, good and bad, are welcome. It's a refreshing take on film discussion and I look forward to their future!
Grabthar's Hammer
Deep, engaging discussion for film fans of all levels.
There's something here if you want to be entertained; there's something here if you want to learn. Jansen and his rotating panel of guests bring knowledge, humor, energy, and great discourse to each episode. Great to listen to over and over.

What all other podcasts should be.
These guys don't just throw out a weekly podcast where they sit around and talk about what movies came out that week like every other movie podcast. No, they take a topic and break it down for 2 plus hours with people that know what they are talking about. They also have tons of sound clips from movies and behind the scenes interviews that add alot. This is probably the best movie podcast if not one of the best podcasts period.

Looking for high quality movie discussion? You found it!
Simply outstanding. John Jansen, long time co-host of The Hollywood Saloon, has assembled a team of fellow movie lovers and created a well crafted movie podcast. Like a good movie, these are well written and structured with excellent production value. I cannot recommend higly enough.

You were missed.
From the few episodes I've heard, this is every bit as good as the Hollywood Saloon. Great taste and production. And keep up those epic lengths. Thanks

Expansive & Immersive
Cutting together personal recollections, filmmaker commentary, and supplemental film material, The Hollywood Gauntlet picks a topic and goes as in depth as possible into it. The show is less of a back-and-forth than it is a tapestry of film education, commentary, and opinion. Highly, highly recommended for all movie fans.

I've listened to every single one of John's previous podcasts and was thrilled to hear that he's continuing podcasting with the Hollywood Gauntlet. If you like films, start listening now -- you'll be hooked.

A man among boys
I was a big fan of the Saloon and also of what I've heard thus far of the Gauntlet. Jansen is doing a great thing. He's a teacher to many and will never know how many and how much he has have touched with his passion and knowledge. I'm halfway done with summer of 82 and love the pod's attention to detail, film grammar and the eloquent manner in which they express themselves. They are well produced and seamlessly incorporate commentary and interviews with the filmmakers. A true show!

Welcome Back, John Jansen!
I've been enjoying John's shows for years. His knowledge of all-things-film is astounding and the work he puts into each episode is incredible. I can't imagine the time he logs in when editing these mamoth-sized podcasts but the end result is pure film bliss. I could listen to John & crew talk film for hours, and in fact I have. Only Jansen could have me listening to a 4+ hour show and leave me wanting more! Welcome back to the airwaves, John!

The Pinnacle of Podcasting!
If you love film and enjoy the thorough, in-depth discussions on what makes a film great, you owe it to yourself to check out the Hollywood Gauntlet. Love the 4 hour run time of these shows! I'm really anticipating the next batch of these shows. The Summer of '82 show is just a mind-blowing recap of how amazing that line up of films was. Keep up the awesome work John! High, high recommendation on this show.

The Gauntlet has been thrown!!
For me, there are no adjectives in the human lexicon sufficient enough to describe the INCREDIBLE joy that this podcast has brought me!! The effort these guys have put into creating this wonderful podcast clearly portrays their passion and love for the ART of cinema and, in my opinion, the show is unmatched! Keep up the great work and thank you so much!

Quality, Long Form Discussion for serious cinephiles, film geeks and the like.
I've listened to many film podcasts. While I enjoy many of them, no one is nearly as seasoned as John Jansen is when it comes to having an in depth discussion on film. Be it obscure art house or buttery Hollywood popcorn, John is able to speak on it in a clear, intelligent and entertaining way. Further, being a filmmaker himself he's able to add so much more insight then your average critic. If you're serious about film and like to really delve into a topic, The Hollywood Gauntlet is definitely the show for you.

You want cinema talk? Go to the Gaunlet!
This is cinema talk at its finest. Entertaining, informative and well produced. This is not your average film podcast. Mr. Jansen takes his vast Film Encyclopedia knowledge and open it up for us discussing film and what mean to all of us film lovers. If you love films from any era, you should give this podcast a listen.

A terrific film discussion podcast.
Two episodes in, and I am already hooked. This podcast is a thoughtful, interesting, and entertaining look at movies. It is like hanging out with your friends and talking about cinema, except that these dudes really know what they are talking about. Highly recommended for any fan of film and film history.

Must listen to!
John has pulled together an outstanding show that brings together a variety of opinions mixed together with an education on the entertainment industry. The best part is that the shows are fun and can be listened to many times to get the most out of the content. Keep up the fantastic work!

One of the the best movie podcasts
John Jansen's knowledge and the relaxed conversational tone makes this podcast has definitely taken up the mantle since The Hollywood Saloon ended (John Jansen was one of the hosts). If you're into films, the inner workings of the movie business and the history of cinema then this is definitely the podcast for you!

Authentic film discussions
The Hollywood Gauntlet is one of the most authentic film podcasts I've heard. They look at films and directors with sincerety and dig into them in the most enjoyable way. The Dragon vs Dragon cast is fantastic. Objectively looking at both films and highlighting the strengths and weakness of each film, yet allowing them to stand on their own merit. If you are a person who, like me, struggle to find people to actively discuss film, this will be a rewarding treat for you.

The best podcast ever!!!
A truly informative podcast that delves deep into its subject. JJansen is already two shows in and he's already supplanted his old great and worthy Hollywood Saloon cast. The new format works like gangbusters and you really come away smarter after listening. The show about 1982 is essential podcasting. If you are a film nerd and was around back then you have no excuse to not listen to it.

For those who miss The Hollywood Saloon
The Hollywood Saloon remains one of my favorite film podcasts. So many great discussions on film and film culture and I've revisited many episodes in the past year when I discovered it. I was sad to see it go. That gave way to delight when it was announced that John Jansen was starting up a new film-related podcast and just on the basis of the first 2 episodes, I'd say the grand tradition is ongoing. The Summer of '82 episode is one of the best discussions I've ever listened to. I'm looking forward to more episodes.

Love, love, love the initial offerings and would recommend this podcast to not just anyone that just loves movies and the craftsmanship it takes to make them, but podcasts and the craftsmanship that goes into making them as well. Bring on more of the Gauntlet!

The ART of Podcasting from Professor Jansen
There are some podcasts that are so incredible that they become a part of your life. This I believe will be one of them. Brilliantly conceived, masterfully crafted, elequently executed, and produced with genuine passion; then pushed into the sublime by a perfectionist's slight of hand; listen to it. I believe 20 years from now I will be returning to these shows.

This is going to be fun!
When the Hollywood Saloon shut things down, I thought it was the end of the finest film podcast out there. I was wrong. The Hollywood Gauntlet offers even better production values and a smart and funny panel of hosts, led by Jansen, in a lively discussion of film. This is not another "Now...In Theaters" podcast. It's a thoughtful dissection of the joys of going to the movies. Thank you Mr. Jansen!

Honestly, I have never been a fan of podcasts.... Call me weird. But the Hollywood gauntlet is GGRREEAAATTT!!! Can't wait to listen to more!!!!

John J. is great (as usual) but...
...the other two hosts just kind of seemed like they were along for the ride. I'm depriving them of a fifth star as a way of throwing down the *gauntlet* for them to step up their game going forward. They have big shoes to fill, and they need to bring their A-game if they want to step into JJ's podcasting world.

A most welcome return
Film fans and movie nerds, rejoice! One half of The Hollywood Saloon, the gold standard for film podcasts, is here with a new show. John Jansen brings his wide breadth of knowledge, insight and love of cinema into his latest venture. Having only heard one episode, I have high hopes for this series.
My Deformed Elbow
The total package
For listeners of the now-defunct Hollywood Saloon podcast, it was obvious that John Jansen was "the brains" of the outfit. In this new project, his commitment to great movie podcasting continues. High production values, great sound quality, intelligent discussion, and fun banter combine to create one of the best podcasts I've ever heard.
BeeDub57
A film podcast for anyone who loves movies.
This is EXACTLY what I want in a film podcast. Informed discussion, attention to detail with appropriate music, sound fx, movie & interview clips, well researched hosts who aren't simply reading the FAQ's and trivia pages on imdb. The main host's (John Jansen's) previous show was a mixture of film class and discussion group in an ipod, this show looks to deliver on all that and more.

The Gold Standard
The Hollywood Saloon was the Gold Standard in Podcasting and like anything worthwhile it had a great run but it came to an end. The Hollywood Gauntlet, as it's name implies, is a challenge to do even better. This isn't the Hollywood Saloon II, this is something new entirely, an interesting topic covered in a panel discussion with old friends who bring a great deal to the table in terms of film making knowledge, nostalgia, and the backstory of how some of our favorite films came together. Each episode has had a multimedia study guide that is a great start for anyone who likes to dig deep. I really appreciate all the effort that is going into this and I can't wait to see what you will do next.

A Win / Win For Saloon Fans
The Hollywood Saloon with Andy Siems and John Jansen was one of the best film discussions on iTunes. Without a doubt it was disappointing to see its doors close for good. Thankfully in May Andy announced he would soon return to talk films with a new attitude and a new show. This news was exciting, and I highly anticipate Andy's return. But nothing prepared us for this. Jansen returns to the world of podcasting with two episodes and a variation on the format that made the Saloon so successful. This new show is insightful, sometimes funny and always entertaining. Summer of '82 is a love letter to possibly the greatest summer film season ever. Talk about a flashback! Dragon Vs. Dragon explores the Swedish and American adaptations of Steig Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Both episodes feature wall to wall music and clips from the films plus comments and insights from the cast and crew. The thing about the Saloon, and now the Gauntlet, is you are guaranteed to learn something while being entertained. With the closing of The Hollywood Saloon listeners now have two times the content to look forward to. And that's not a good thing, it's a GREAT thing.

Fantastic
A smart, fun and engaging podcast with fantastic production quality. Jansen's a great host with a relaxed personality that never becomes pedantic or condecending (as so many other film podcasters are wont to do). All around The Hollywood Gauntlet is a wonderful show that I'm excited to follow.

Fantastic new show from the mind of the Hollywood Saloon
When I heard the Saloon was going away, I was saddened, but a few months later I get hit with a welcomed and much needed surprise, The Hollywood Gauntlet. John Jansen's new film podcast. Brings over all the good of the Saloon, with none of the bad. John was always the brains and talent behind the Saloon, and to hear him have his own show, with his own freedom to do what he wants is incredible. I have a feeling this podcast will give us constant content, unlike the Saloon. Cheers to you John!

Fantastic.
What Ira Glass is to drama, John Jansen is to film discussion. Film smarts mixed with his personal touch is radio perfection.

Amazing!
Not long after the unfortunate end to The Hollywood Saloon, John Jansen starts a new podcast called The Hollywood Gauntlet. With each episode will come extensive show notes, which offers an unprecedented look into the films that are discussed. Aside from the Saloon itself, no other film podcast comes close to offering what Jansen and friends offer in these feature-length film discussions. Simply amazing. The amount of information, discussion, clips, music, & effects amount to an extraordinary production, unmatched by other film podcasts. Now, if we could only get Andy Siems up and running with his new podcast. ;-)
