25. Deep Dive on The Sun Does Shine feat Cole
Welcome to The Hive Buzz, a show that is dedicated to highlighting literary works by BIPOC folks AKA Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. This community highlights the work of people of color but by no means do we want to exclude our allies. All are welcome :)On this week's episode, I'm joined by Cole AKA colesbooknook in the IG world to do a deep dive on the beautiful and touching book, "The Sun Does Shine" by Anthony Ray Hinton. Y'all know I read a ton and I do that because I'm often in search for a gem that will touch my soul. THIS book was one of those. Imagine being on death row for a crime you didn't come, how do you even begin to process this injustice. Imagine it takes more than two decades of your life to prove your innocence. In this memoir, Hinton not only tells us about this experience but sheds light on the resilience of the human spirit.Books and Resources mentioned in the EpisodeThe Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray HintonJust Mercy by Brian Stevenson

20. The case for audio books feat. Rene Valdez
This week's episode is a little different. We're not doing a deep dive on a book, instead our guest, Rene Valdez is here to make the case for audiobooks. It is common that as the year starts, you have lofty reading goals but as the months pass by you start getting behind and before you know you’re in a reading slump. We know that audiobooks can be a great way to pick up a book on the go and get out of the slump once and for all. Books and Resources mentioned in the EpisodeCada que te veo, pal-pito by Lourdes Ruiz Interview of Lourdes Ruiz, queen of Albur

On today’s show, our host Meda Trelles is joined by Crystal Maldonado, the author of Fat Chance Charlie Vega. If you have not heard of this book, it is a beautifully written Young Adult novel about a fat brown girl learning to find comfort in her skin, it is a love story at its core. We are so grateful to Crystal for chatting with me about the complexities of friendship, going beyond the fat-positive surface level messaging that is so pervasive in SM, the need for more Latinx representation in literature, and her message to aspiring writers.
