Great information presented by two charming hosts
Don’t believe the bad reviews out there, these women do there research and truly love history and telling women’s stories. I’ve never heard them “be-little” anyone as another reviewer states nor do they make light of slavery as a different reviewer stated. They will often try to bring things into perspective of the modern era, something that some may find helpful to understand the situation the subject was in. I also love there informal approach they have where neither knows what info the other has found and is planning on presenting till they turn on the mic. They never claim to be professional historians just two women who have a passion for women’s history.

Amazing Way to travel in time
We never begin a review without thanking our friends at Apple for providing a platform for the voice of the podcast audience. Let's get into History Chicks… I found History Chicks as I was searching for a podcast that was filled with stories of the past. As I scrolled through their library of podcasts I was amazed at the catalog of stories they covered. ( Where have I been all this time?) I have loved every person they have covered from Coco Chanel. Althea Gibson and the phenomenal woman herself Maya Angelou. That was my favorite. The History Chicks have not left one stone unturned. They have become the history class I feel I missed and thrilled to see the range of stories they cover. This is an unpaid plug. This is a 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 show. These ladies have done their homework, are funny, and have found a way to tell the stories of iconic people. I look forward to catching up. This is one of my new favorite podcasts.

My Favorite Podcast!
I’m obsessed with The History chicks Podcast! I feel like Beckett and Susan are lifelong friends. They’ve been a constant companion in my ear as I’ve navigated some hard life transitions. Hearing the life stories of women before us with their trials and triumphs helps me understand that the hard things we go through are only a small piece of the grand picture of of our lives. It keeps me strong. I hope to meet these fabulous women some day. Keep up the great work ladies. You have been a blessing to me!

Fantastic!
I’ve been listening for years, and heard about so many cool women I never would’ve known! These ladies do an excellent job of diving deep and telling a story.

The best podcast!
I love learning about women in history and this podcast provides the best and funniest accounts of famous women in history. The depth of knowledge, research and passion by the hosts are notable and I can’t wait for more episodes. Would also love to have re-recordings or updated audio on older episodes (my favorites!) as the audio wasn’t as clear back then. Great work and please keep them coming!!

I love you guys, but
La Llorona is pronounced la your-ona. Great podcast, never miss an episode.

Deeply disconcerting
To hear these two talk about slavery in any capacity. The upbeat tone is a real fail when it comes to tough topics. The hosts are unaware of their privilege and are often disconnected from the subjects they aim to cover, especially when they focus on non-Caucasian subjects. It’s jaw dropping at times. Hosts caveat: One is endlessly condescending and super arrogant while the other is extremely provincial and seems to believe everyone fell in love if they got married (this concept still isn’t universal in the modern world, good lord). They can’t conceive slaves weren’t pro slavery... this comes up in multiple episodes - “various people must have been ok with their situation.” Um, nope. That’s not how slavery worked. But it’s exactly what the Lost Cause narrative would have you believe.

Such a good show! I enjoy listening to it in the morning. It is so helpful to know all about important women in history! Keep up the great work!

Emily Dickinson
How on earth you did not mention professor Martha Nell Smith and her digital project Dickinson.org, that exists since 1992 and deals with the erasures Mabel Todd did? Since part of your podcast is most likely based on Smith's research? Also how did you not recommend the film Wild nights with Emily? There you can actually see the original manuscripts in which the name of Susan Dickinson is being restored. Not to mention that Molly Shannon plays Emily. It’s beyond my comprehension.

Just lovely.
This show is a gift to history podcasts and women all at once. The hosts’ camaraderie, their knowledge, their storytelling technique is unparalleled. Sure the audio is rough in their first few seasons as they were putting themselves on the map, but they improve that and it’s worth it. You learn so much and feel proud to be a woman! So wonderful a concept - to focus on history through women. Empowering.

Great concept, terrible execution
I was excited to find this show, but sadly it did not live up to the hype. From unprepared hosts to poor audio quality, this whole show just came across as incredibly unprofessional.

Love
I just recently discovered The History Chicks and am currently listening from the beginning. I love the conversational, non-academic, story-telling way they share the lives of these remarkable women. I love that many of the women I have never heard of, so I am often learning something new. I also enjoy that they try to give balanced views that challenge preconceived notions such as with Marie Antoinette.

Once you do more than scratch the surface, these two are great and the most balanced and well researched podcast historians. Ranking with the BBC. The women they highlight, leaders, historical figures, entertainment personalities from across time and the globe are humans, not angels and not demons. The podcasters are trying to share what they learn, not trying to change your opinion or prove they are experts. Please open your hearts and minds and listen to all of the podcasts before making generalizations.

Love them!
The show is consistent and very well researched. I am a long-time listener and have learned so much! I also have to drive across Texas somewhat regularly so the long episodes work well for me!

AMAZING! Changed my life
I have been a listener for a DECADE and this show has changed my life! The stories that Beckett and Susan tell us of women from history who have overcome all of the roadblocks placed in their way have inspired me to be brave, to reach higher, and stand up for myself. I have gone back to school, changed careers, and am living my best life because of the stories I heard here. Thank you, thank you!

Fine if you don’t expect intellectual stimulation
The premise of this podcast is fine, but the hosts are apparently not academically-trained historians. If they were, they might stop superimposing their 21st century midwestern US opinions on everything. A true academic would consider all aspects of the historical context and use his/her knowledge of events, previous interpretations, writings about history, and published works to inform the presentation. These presenters tend to laugh and belittle from “holier than thou” perspective informed only by events of the past few years or their own personal experience. The other incredibly irritating aspect of the dialogue is the terrible grammar used. Every time one of them says “for Beckett and I” or “for Susan and I”, I have to cringe. The inability to present using proper English only undermines the facade of an intellectual discourse. If you want a superficial introduction to historical characters and don’t take this podcast as a serious analysis, it’s for you.

Appalling
I barely touched the surface of this highly rated women’s history podcast when the sly comment on a woman who “had no business wearing a sleeveless dress” slapped me in the face. How two women can dare to present themselves as intellectuals on a subject so important, so long ignored as women’s history, and shame women in the process is shocking. It’s infuriating. It’s appalling. It’s disappointing. I am ashamed of them.

Hi! I love this podcast so much. I love listening to any history podcast, and history is also my favorite subject in school. I’m only 12 years old but love hearing them laugh and hearing different options on different things. My favorite episodes are “The Statue Of Liberty 🗽” and “Ida Lewis.” I love the Statue Of Liberty because I never knew that it was actually made out of copper! (interesting) and I love the Ida Lewis episode because she was so strong and a good female role model and I like how she wanted to do it beacouase she could of just said “get someone else.” Girls now a days just wanna paint there nails and go shopping (lol) sorry okay I’ll peace out now ✌️ Thanks for all your hard work! Love this podcast but need more Susan!
I truly love the history chicks podcast. I’ve learned so much! Really appreciate the amount of time and energy Beckett and Susan put into researching each topic. But I since the show has two hosts, it would be great to hear from both of them, not just primarily Beckett. I’d love to hear more from Susan!

Like fine wine!
This last Clicquot episode was so good you guys! Susan quoted Ira Glass about not making art or excellence at the outset, but thank goodness you both stuck with it. Your banter and friendship come through, thank you so much for doing all of this research! I love hearing about these amazing women from our shared feminist histories. Kudos!

PA-PA MA-MA
This has been a fun show to listen to, but I cannot stand how every father or father figure/mother or mother figure is called PA-PA and MA-MA. It drives me nuts. Girl, these people are not your family and we don’t want to hear you speak of them in this way. Please consider stopping the PA-PA/MA-MA designation. It’s just so annoying. PA-PA…it’s a father. FA-THER. MA-MA…IT’S mother. MO-THER!

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Joe Kennedy was a notorious antisemite and racist. The fact that Ann Lowe designed Jackie’s wedding dress was not a source of pride for him at all. Mrs. Onassis was a brave and fine person though.

Love these ladies
I found this show during the early days of the pandemic and it soon became my favorite. I love history and enjoy the way the hosts present each historical woman. I have listened to episodes multiple times when something in life makes mention of one of the subjects. I look forward for each new episode.

Well researched, thorough, and lovely.
I love Susan and Beckett. Their passion for history shines through. They do everything on their own. There’s no staff of producers, editors, and researchers. That said, it’s a beautifully produced show, throughly researched, and solidly put together. These are two brilliant women who go out of their way to bring a top quality podcast about (mostly) top quality women from history. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
OMGWHYISEVERYNICKNAMETAKEN?!
Meh
I love the idea and subject of this podcast, but Beckett is incredibly self absorbed and annoying. She has to constantly make the topic about her, talks over Susan which actually is so condescending sometimes that it’s cringe. It would be nice to have a historical podcast (especially about women in history because how cool!) that doesn’t have to get their progressive, liberal jabs. Just read the information and let it be, ya know.

One of my favorites!
It's always a good day when I check my phone and see a new episode of this terrific podcast. I am a lifelong consumer of random history facts, so many of the subjects are familiar to me and I always find the History Chicks to be both accurate and entertaining.

Finding these ladies was a serendipitous experience. I have a long daily commute (37 miles one way) and was tired of trying to find radio stations and music. Once I listened to my first podcast, I was hooked. I love history and so enjoy watching shows or reading books where these women are mentioned!! I just read Half American and Mary Bethune McLeod is mentioned!! Thank you ladies and I hope to meet you on one of the trips!!

Go to podcast!
This has recently become my go-to podcast when I’m driving, cleaning, gardening, whatever! I love the deep dives on sometimes little known historical women. As a Christian, I also really appreciate the fact that Christian topics are presented with sensitivity and respect even though one of the hosts has mentioned that she is an atheist. Keep up the excellent work, ladies!!

Thank You History Chicks!
Finally- a history podcast that is easy to follow yet packed with fascinating details, covers such a wide range of centuries, and promotes women empowerment without sugarcoating the truth because let’s be honest, we’re only human. Thank you History Chicks!

Could be good
Once y’all went progressive with this podcast, it went severely downhill. The virtue signaling is grating

Refreshing!
The chicks do such a fine job of being relatable, and so very human in their portrayals of these fabulous women in our history. I've learned so very much, and I am continually amazed at all the tiny details that are found during their exhaustive research. These chicks rock!!!
The original jokt
Beckett is 😝
This is an ok podcast if you don’t mind listening to Beckett condescend to you and her co host on every subject. Also we always take the side of our subjects except if it’s one of the founders’ wives’ then we can barely talk about them without swallowing our vomit. Which begs the question why did they cover her? (I’m talking about their Martha Washington episode. Which was very poorly done and their disdain was the only topic discussed.) I’ve learned to just overlook Beckett’s comments for the cheap progressive nonsense they are, but she’s grating to listen to 98% of the time.

I’M ADDICTED TO THE HISTORY CHICKS!!!
I discovered History Chicks about a week ago and can’t stop listening! I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and I was also once a history major during my college years. I love this podcast because a lot of research goes into each episode yet the material is presented with passion, thoughtfulness, humor—at times, and intelligence! When I listen to the History Chicks I am learning and being entertained simultaneously! It doesn’t feel like a lecture but an interesting discussion with ladies who have a passion for great women in history! I am absolutely addicted to History Chicks!!!

Interesting but the tone is changing
I’ve listened to the Chicks for many years. The ladies they research are amazing. I’ve learned so much - far more than any history class I took in high school or college. Hearing the chicks talk is like hanging out with girlfriends just listening to them chat. However in the past year or so they keep inserting their own political beliefs and trying to compare the events of hundreds of years ago to our modern mores and morals and one simply cannot do that. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. The past is often unsavory to our modern sensibilities. Just state what happened and don’t insert your own way of thinking

I love History Chicks
This is a wonderful podcast! If you love real history, not just a “doctored up version” of male history, this is for you. It is women in history. I can’t get enough of it. I have recommended this podcast to my daughter, and my granddaughters. It is a must listen for women and men who are not afraid of real history.
