It’s Time We Talked About Pornography - Hints for Healing Podcast Season 4, Episode 3
This podcast focuses on helping parents and carers understand the potential impact of pornography on their children, and what can be done about it. Much of the content in this podcast comes from the work of Maree Crabbe from “It’s Time We Talked” which is a violence prevention project that seeks to prevent pornography’s harms to children and young people. Maree Crabbe has worked with young people – and on issues affecting young people – since 1993. She has developed and delivered programs focusing on sexual violence prevention, pornography, respectful relationships, sexting, and the prevention of sexually transmissible infections and is currently undertaking a PhD on young people and pornography at the Queensland University of Technology. Sexual Consent and Consent Legislation - Hints for Healing Podcast Season 4, Episode 2
Parents and Carers often look for ways they can make their children’s lives safer while also supporting them to make choices that are both lawful and respectful. Often neglected, however, are conversations and guidance for children and young people about sexual consent and consent legislation. These conversations can feel uncomfortable and awkward, but they are too important to avoid. To go some way towards addressing this, STARTTS has teamed up with Bridget O’Kane, a lawyer in the NSW public service to create a podcast that we hope will provide parents and carers with some guidance for having these conversations with their children. Raising Young Men and Boys with Healthy Masculinities - Hints for Healing Podcast Season 4, Episode 1
We hope that this podcast will provide parents and carers with some ideas on what they can do to foster the mental health of young men and boys, as well as how to help them navigate romantic and sexual relationships. This podcast was adapted from an interview in which Mathiang Aguer (a South Sudanese Youth Health Project Officer from STARTTS) was interviewed by Caroline Speakman (a Trauma & Bereavement Counsellor). STARTTS collaborated with Caroline on the topic of raising boys and young men with healthy masculinities, in acknowledgement of the many pressures faced by young men with migrant or culturally diverse backgrounds, and the parents and carers who are raising them.
