6-16: Basketball CHAOS
For the first time in a month, we've got an episode with both Ryan AND Matt - and we are pumped to be back. Before we get into the actual games that happened over the last week of actual basketball, we talk about Kelly Hines writing another new article for TU athletics, as well as a new Tulsa student fan group called The CHAOS. We then get into the games, which included a wild swing on the men's side where TU scored over 100 points in a blowout win, then followed that up by allowing over 100 points in a blowout loss. The women had a more sane week with two nice wins but get ready for a much more difficult week coming up. We also take a look around the league and debate who the most important player on the women's team is: Temira Poindexter or Delanie Crawford. 6-14: Good Signs for the Future
What a week for Tulsa Athletics! Kevin Wilson brought in Tulsa's highest ranked signing class since 2009 which has them sitting second in the AAC and second in the Group of Five. On top of that both basketball teams had perfect weeks with their best wins of the season - the men over Missouri State and the women over Texas Tech. We talk about all of that and do some quick previews for the next two(!) weeks while we take a holiday break. P.S. We recorded before the women's game was over on Wednesday, but did talk about it as it was happening live! 6-12: KenPomprovement
Despite a tough loss to ORU, Tulsa men's basketball has now increased almost 100 spots in KenPom's rankings since the start of the season and nearly 30 spots since last week. Beating #108 Loyola Chicago just a few days ago was a huge part of that. With Matt out this week, Ryan covers the transfer portal, the AAC, men's and women's basketball, and answers a listener question. 6-11: Football Finale (Season Recap, Players of the Year, & Basketball)
The 2023 Tulsa Football season has come to close as your Golden Hurricane closed out the year with a road win at ECU to finish the year 4-8 (2-6 AAC). We recap that game while also discussing Kirk Francis' efficiency, Braylon Presley, and more. After that, we break down the 2023 football season as a whole while crowning our Offensive, Defensive, Breakout, and Special Teams Players of the Year. We then get into the offseason and which players are likely coming back, which have already announced they're leaving, and which position groups we need to target in the portal. We round out football talk with a look around the American as we get ready for championship weekend as Tulane hosts SMU in the AAC championship game. Finally, we turn our attention toward basketball as we discuss both the men's and women's seasons so far and what we're looking at on both sides heading into this weekend. 6-10: Gridiron Gloom and Basketball Boom (ft. Kelly Comarda from FTW Collective)
It was Homecoming weekend for the Golden Hurricane which made the loss to a 2-6 Charlotte team all the more painful. We talk about the specifics of that game, but also on what that loss means for the rest of Tulsa's season. After that we bring on Kelly Comarda from @FTWCollective to talk about the 2023 iteration of the #BattleOfTheColorBasedWaterPhenomena. But it's not all bad for Golden Hurricane sports as the men and women's basketball teams both started off their seasons with wins! We break down those games and talk about what we liked (and a little on what we didn't like so much). 6-9: Not a Nice Weekend (SMU Recap, Charlotte Preview, Basketball Season!)
Tulsa lost to SMU by 59 points on Saturday, and that's about all there is to say about that one. Jk, we spent 40+ minutes breaking down that game. Everything from the historic beatdown, to Braylon Braxton's very bad day, to our confidence levels in Kevin Wilson going forward. It was a sad, but actually pretty interesting, discussion in our opinions. Aside from that, we also preview this week's Homecoming game against Biff Poggi and the Charlotte 49ers, take a look around the league, and take one more chance to get you ready for basketball season! The exhibition game is on Wednesday the 1st, and the regular season opener is at home on Monday the 6th. Finally, we will have a merch sale live on the site this week for homecoming! Keep an eye on the website at thegoldenhurricast.com for some pretty steep discounts on all of our merchandise.
