DRINK THE JUICE, SHELBY! The Forst Inn is producing the classic "Steel Magnolias", a poignant comedy-drama by Robert Harling! Host Kevin James Sievert cozies up with cast members Megan Schauer, Emilee Carroll, Claran LaViolette and Shannon Paige in VirtualLand to talk about the iconic movie, the girl power of an all female ensemble, and horror stories about bad haircuts!
ABOUT STEEL MAGNOLIAS:
The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.Directed by Tyler McElrath

Hosts Thomas Moore (He/Him) and Kevin James Sievert (He/Him) take a trip down memory lane as they discuss the play DOG SEES GOD with Director Lisa Heili (She/Her) and cast members May Heili (They/Them) and Karter Mueller (He/Him) who play CB and Beethoven, respectively. Teen Angst, Identity, Sexuality, and the world of the Peanuts Gang collide in this episode, just in time for Pride Month. HAPPY PRIDE!
Synopsis: When CB’s dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group’s bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that’s both haunting and hopeful.
Directed by Lisa Heili.
"Dog Sees God is a rare item; a wicked satire that is so much more than just a tearing-down of cultural icons. It's rich with insight into our vulnerabilities, and forces us to think hard about what we owe to each other." - Broadway World"a play that invites audiences to reflect on identity (the theme for their season), and reminds us how perspectives can change, for characters and for audiences, with time and understanding." - DC Theatre Scene
