Retirement income research in a 1994 study suggested one could withdrawal 4% of their portfolio in the first year of retirement then increase it with inflation each year over a 30 year period without running out of money. This is a simple rule that has been widely adopted by the financial industry. In this video I talk about both the strengths and short-comings of this rule of thumb. Summary: retirement income planning is more complex than the 4% rule suggests.

Bear Market Financial Considerations Checklist: https://app.precisefp.com/w/45xlveBear Markets are one thing (a good thing IMHO) when you are in the investing/accumulating phase of life. But Bear markets have a whole new meaning when living off those investments. Needless to say, retirees may be a little nervous with recent stock market declines. Not to mention, the expected zig-zag of high quality bonds has not held up as well in the face of rising interest rates. So, what is a retiree to do when faced with challenging stock AND bond market conditions. That's what this video is about. Considerations to keeping a retirement income portfolio on track: On a side note: The most referred to retirement income "Strategy" is the 4% rule. it's a good rule of thumb, but lacks flexibility and does not reflect real-world retiree spending patterns. Income/Portfolio guardrails is a strategy that has gained much traction in recent years. I introduce this concept in this video, but I plan on doing more videos specifically about portfolio guardrails and retirement income. Link to the Video: https://youtu.be/AmutV8JP7YE

Download the Medicare Flow charts: https://app.precisefp.com/w/oi6rdcThis is a redo of a video I did last year. I felt it important to clarify a point of confusion. Here's the important thing to clarify:The potential confusion can come when non-working spouse's 65th birthday falls within the three calendar months prior to the retiring pilot's 65th birth month. (EX: Pilot turns 65 in July and spouse's birthday is in April, May or June). This means the retiring pilots birth month falls in the later half of the non working spouse's initial enrollment period. If both retiring pilot and spouse wait to sign up for Medicare in the pilot's 65th birth month (common technique to save a month of Medicare premiums), the spouse's coverage will be delayed by one or two months (it won't start the first of the next month). How can this happen? It can happen if the non-working spouse follows Medicare's guidelines for signing up in the special enrollment period versus the initial enrollment period. For official Medicare information always refer to: www.medicare.gov and/or an official Medicare Representative. This information can change and, as I point out here, it can be interpreted different ways. When does my coverage start?
