Someone left a review saying “I wish there wasn’t so many irritating sounds/musical effects. It’s just kind of goofy and detracts from the subject matter.” I was like, what?! That’s what brings it all together for me, it has a way of transporting you that simple narration cannot. I think it is an absolutely stunning piece of art. I can feel the love and thoughtfulness that was put into it. A massive effort, I imagine. The first episode I listened to was the planetary roar one and it happened to pop up as I was going for a trail run through the forest and I was laughing and crying and completely immersed. The endorphins and the nature probably heightened the experience but I’ve enjoyed all the episodes I’ve listened to since. Grateful to have stumbled on this, and at the perfect time in life. The universe is truly magically and the messages on this podcast have already inspired a beautiful creative project I’d like to organize in my community. Thank you beloved.

As someone who deeply values animist worldviews and has gained much from The Emerald, I've shared this podcast far and wide. I appreciate Josh Schrei's voice, his reverence for myth and spirit, and his commitment to inclusivity. His work has repeatedly stirred up the Sacred in me ~ I feel a deep resonance with the messages of ecological reverence, spiritual liberation, and collective healing.

This show woke up a part of me that was relegated to the back ground of my survival in a world I felt I didn’t belong in. It helped me remember how deeply I belong. That we all all all belong. Every episode speaks directly to me. And if I scroll through and choose one, exactly the thing I need in that moment is there. I am beyond grateful to be remembering.

Just listened to Trickster. This is an in-depth look at the meaning and mechanics of the Trickster archetype in culture, society, and our own lives. I'm so glad I listened to this well-researched, elegantly and precisely crafted explanation of Trickster, which I didn't begin to understand until I listened. Thank you for this. And as another reviewer says, it's refreshing and genuine, amid a soup of podcasters which often doesn't have the meat we want when we listen.🙏

Ive waded through many a pagan/spiritual podcast and all of them are either painfully sophomoric or a bunch of rich people talking about their second house in clipped, collegiate tones. Such a poetic delivery is rare in the world. Utterly entranced.

This is one of the few podcasts I listen to regularly. I enjoy the flow and content so much, as Joshua speaks to many topics that I think about regularly, and brings so much clarity and poetic storytelling to the table. These episodes have been a balm to my soul and a welcomed invitation deeper into the mysteries.

A brief review. I recently found this podcast via another great one, Third Eye Drops. For me adding this to my podcast menu has taken some of the concepts I had been learning about and exploring to a next level. The shows are so dense with stimulating, nourishing ideas that as I am listening in a trance of delighted learning I am already thinking of listening to that same episode over and over again in the future. The great ideas are so dense, come so thick and fast through the episode, that I know subsequent hearings will reveal deeper levels. I am very grateful for the work and passion that created this mind exploding/expanding podcast!

I usually love your content but your commentary on “both sides” of the culture wars in The Trickster episode is not meeting the moment. One side wants to eliminate the other(s), this is no longer about correct pronouns and woke-ism (if it ever was), you’re doing some damage by playing this down. I get Trickster doesn’t care—we need to.

It fits a perfect space of spirit and wonder. Josh explores practices, traditions, stories that make us fully human and takes into account suffering, power dynamics, and justice.

I felt compelled to leave a review for this exceptional podcast after reading another one that didn’t quite reflect my experience. For me, this podcast is so much more than just a show—it’s a sonic journey that resonates deeply with my soul. It’s not just about intelligence or expertise, although it has plenty of that, and it’s not just a profound offering, although it’s certainly that too. Ultimately, this podcast connects with me on a level that’s sometimes wordless and always moving. I highly recommend it. I had been searching for something new, and this came into my life at the perfect moment.

Like the content and the research and really wish there was less background sound/music/noise. It takes away from the intimacy of listening, is distracting and overstimulating. Please reduce your workload and reduce the filler noise.

Josh’s Emerald Podcast is a necessity in our times. Our (at best) estrangement from so-called nature, the earth and elements, is at the root of nearly every single socio-cultural malignancy we are experiencing as humans today. To view nature as dead or inanimate is a projection of how we see our own forgotten hearts when we forget the nature of life itself; to care for each other with reverence and devotion we must re-member our own potency as inextricable from the animating pulse of bliss itself, of life-force, Eros, shakti, etc… and The Emerald is a fervent, thoughtful, sweeping commitment to that effort.
