A verse-by-verse Psalm 46 study exploring “be still,” and why we can let go and trust God. What does it mean to “be still” when nothing around you is still? Psalm 46 speaks into a world of roaring waters, shaking mountains, raging nations, and uncertain outcomes—and calls us to behold the works of the LORD. True rest grows as we see who God is, remember what He has done, and entrust what we are holding to His faithful hands.
In this fifth and final message from the CHILL: Rethinking Rest & Stress series, Jennifer Richmond walks verse by verse through Psalm 46, exploring its vivid imagery, repeated Hebrew words, and powerful refrain: “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” Rather than treating “Be still and know that I am God” as a peaceful slogan, this study restores the verse to its setting and reveals God’s command to cease striving, release our resistance, and acknowledge His sovereign rule.
Whether you’re studying Psalm 46 on your own, leading a small group, preparing to teach, or struggling to release fear, control, resentment, or an uncertain outcome, this study will help you behold the character and works of God—and understand why you can safely open your hands before Him.
In this Bible study you’ll discover:• Why Psalm 46 begins with God before describing the trouble• How the repeated Hebrew root mot contrasts moving mountains, tottering kingdoms, and the city that will not be moved• Why “she shall not be moved” refers to Zion, not an individual woman• What the name YHWH Tseva’ot—the LORD of hosts—reveals about God’s power and covenant presence• The meaning of harpu—“be still,” “cease,” “release,” or “let go”• How “Come and see” leads from Psalm 46 to Jesus and the empty tomb• Why we can rest while God remains active, sovereign, and faithful• How the entire CHILL study leads us to come, hide, know the I AM, let go, and let God be God

Have you ever wondered, "Am I grieving right?"
That question haunted me after losing my dad, my mom, a dear friend, and my college roommate. I didn't find easy answers. But I did find a God who wasn't offended by my questions, my tears, or even my anger.
Excerpt: "Is everyone else just able to crush their sadness like a recycled plastic bottle and toss it far away so they can move on? Because my sadness couldn't fit in a bottle, not even close. My sadness? ...it could fill the ocean, and I feel like I'm drowning in it. Should I be more thoughtful? Less scared? More insightful and less selfish, because I feel pretty sad and selfish - truthfully, I wish they were all still here - my roommate, my friend, my dad, and my mom too...I wanted more time with them. Is it weakness that I still sit in my car, in the garage, in the quietest most sound-proof place I have and just wail and sob until I'm so exhausted and out of tears that I just let the darkness of the garage blanket me from the world?"
I wrote "Letter to a Grieving Friend" during a dark season a few years ago and today it felt right to revisit and share again. I pray it will bless and encourage you today.

Psalm 145...if you’re tired of the latest stress hacks that never stick, Psalm 145 gently reminds us to start with the Lord. This short message walks through how praise and remembering God’s character can actually reorient our hearts from worry to rest.
Instead of rehearsing our fears, try rehearsing who God is: slow to anger, full of steadfast love, near to the weary, and the one who opens His hand to satisfy creation. Read it aloud, open your hands, and let these truths sink in.
Take a deep breath, re-read Psalm 145, and lean into the simple invitation: come to the I AM and let praise shape your rest.
Are you looking for peace in the middle of stress? Psalm 145 reminds us that true rest isn't found by mastering life. It's found by knowing the Great I AM. In this verse-by-verse Bible study, we'll discover how God's character transforms the way we face anxiety, uncertainty, and the pressures of everyday life.
In this fourth message from the CHILL: Rethinking Rest & Stress series, Jennifer Richmond walks through Psalm 145, revealing the beauty of God's covenant name, His steadfast love, His eternal kingdom, and His invitation to trust Him. Rather than offering another technique or life hack, Psalm 145 calls us to rehearse what is true about the LORD until our hearts remember what stress makes us forget.

What does it mean to hide in God when life feels uncertain, overwhelming, or even painful?
In Episode 3 of our CHILL: Rethinking Rest & Stress series, guest teacher Ruth Carter walks through Psalm 27, showing how David found confidence, comfort, and courage in God's presence during some of the most difficult seasons of his life. When enemies surrounded him, relationships failed him, and fear threatened to take hold, David returned again and again to the Lord as his light, salvation, stronghold, and shelter.
Together we'll explore four key themes from Psalm 27—Confidence, Covered, Comfort, and Compass—and discover what it looks like to rest securely in God's care while trusting His direction for our lives. Whether you're facing stress, disappointment, betrayal, uncertainty, or simply longing for deeper peace, this study offers biblical encouragement and practical insight for walking closely with Christ.

As difficult as that is…as scary as it is to feel so deeply such questioning…as much as we are filled with fear and longing for hope…we are not abandoned. We are not without hope. We are not alone or without resources to respond. We cannot be passive. We cannot just let time pass. Here are seven prayers, and each one of these can be daily actions as well.

(with a few bloopers included at the end 😜)
What do you do when stress, fear, and uncertainty seem to take over your thoughts? In this second message of the Chill: Rethinking Rest & Stress Bible study series, we'll slow down and spend time in Psalm 34, where David invites us to discover a deeper kind of rest—not by escaping life's pressures, but by coming near to God in the middle of them.
Written during one of the most difficult seasons of David's life, Psalm 34 reminds us that God's peace is not reserved for people whose lives are calm and orderly. It is available to those who seek Him, trust Him, and learn to take refuge in Him. Together we'll explore what it means to "taste and see that the LORD is good," how God's character anchors us when life feels uncertain, and why true rest begins with relationship rather than relief from our circumstances.
Whether you're struggling with anxiety, carrying heavy burdens, feeling spiritually weary, or simply longing to grow deeper in God's Word, this Bible teaching will encourage you to draw near to the One who hears, delivers, and cares for His people.
In this message you'll discover:
Why Psalm 34 was written during a season of crisis and fear
How David learned to seek God in difficult circumstances
What it means to "taste and see that the LORD is good"
Practical ways to slow down and study Scripture more thoughtfully
How God's character becomes our anchor in stressful seasons
Why biblical rest begins by coming to God Himself

Psalm 119:25-32 || Ep. 2 ABCs of Grace - DALET ד
Focus:
We're continuing a special series where I share my dad's teachings from Psalm 119, recorded way back in 1981. In this episode, my dad, Pastor Dave, guides us through verses 25-32, focusing on finding hope and strength in times of depression. He called this section "Orienting to Depression," emphasizing the Hebrew letter Dalet that begins each verse. His insights are timeless and so relevant, especially if you're struggling or supporting someone who is.
Reminder:
These recordings are from old cassettes, so expect a little static and garble. But trust me, it's worth it. Grab your Bible, follow along, and don't forget to check out the study guides and transcripts on my blog, for a clearer understanding.
Key Points:
Memorize Psalm 119:25-32 to internalize God's promises.
Reflect on areas of your life where you feel defeated and ask God to revive you according to His Word.
Share this message with someone struggling with depression or loneliness.
Study the verses mentioned in the podcast to deepen your understanding.
Engage in daily meditation on God’s Word to combat negative thoughts.

Dwelling in the Word and letting the Word dwell in us richly is different than reading the Bible or reading a devotional with Bible passages. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly and return the favor by dwelling in the Word - not "doing" Bible study, not simply reading - but moving into the Word with heart, soul, mind, and strength. It's being intentional in making a shift from treating the Word of God like a self-help book to letting it dwell in us as the living Word of God that it is.

I originally shared this episode, August of 2024. Enjoy this special episode of the Dwelling Richly podcast in honor of my father and this Father's Day, June 2026.
So, this is a super special episode of the Dwelling Richly podcast. I've been teasing you with hints about a surprise, and today, I'm finally spilling the beans.
My dad was a pastor, and growing up as a pastor's kid gave me some amazing memories. Fast forward to 2024, both my parents have passed, and I found myself going through old boxes in the garage. Imagine my shock when I discovered a box of my dad's old cassette tapes, recordings of his teachings from the early '80s!
Despite some rat damage (gross, I know!), the tapes were miraculously intact. Hearing my dad's voice again was beyond emotional. And get this—one series is called "How to Enjoy the Bible," perfectly aligning with my current podcast series!
I'm working on digitizing these treasures so I can share them with you all. Stay tuned for these raw, heartfelt recordings. Thanks for being part of this journey with me. Can't wait to share more soon! Listen to the story on this podcast episode and read more along with photos of my dad and the process of recovering the cassettes on my blog: https://www.jennifergrichmond.com/rediscovering-dad/
