The Documentary Life podcast
I’m a relative latecomer to The Documentary Life podcast, but I am plowing through every episode from the beginning and absolutely love it. With no community or colleagues near me, the podcast makes me feel connected to filmmaking and storytelling and opens my eyes to new concepts while validating discoveries I’ve made on my own through trial and error.

Gets better and better
I've been a longtime listener to The Documentary Life. It has become my go-to podcast for inspiration and positive guidance while making a documentary. Chris is knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and extremely generous with helpful information. He always manages to keep the podcast current, addressing important issues and encouraging listeners to believe in themselves. One more thing:I can't wait to see Elvis in Cambodia!

The Best Doc Film Podcast
With the podcast tidal wave delivering so many options these days one has to be very selective. After all, we only have so much time to dedicate to education and keeping up with industry news. The Documentary Life is the best podcast for the wanna be, up and up and coming doc film producer or director. The quality of the guests that Chris brings on are great and his commentaries have great suggestions and thoughts regarding all aspects of production, marketing and distribution. It's one of the few podcasts I still subscribe to and it's worth it.

Wonderful Podcast
I discovered this podcast not long after it had started, when I was just a few months into making my first feature documentary. Not only did the infromation Chris and his awesome guests shared help guide me through the process, the show and the community it created were a great inspiration and a reminder that the dream was possible and that I wasn't alone in my quest. Now I'm beginning the edit on my 2nd feature documentary and never miss an episode. Thanks for your passion and dedication Chris.

Motivation for Doclifers
I stumbled on this podcast last year and immediately became addicted. The content I found appealing went far beyond the usual how-to type podcasts. Chris’ message spoke to me more because of the motivation he gives you to keep living your own doc life.
Keep listening and you too will learn about tools you never knew you needed to create and market your work.
Doc on!!

A wonderful resource for Independent Documentary Filmmakers
I'm late to the party on this one as I've just discovered Chris' podcast and it seems as though he recorded his last episode about 4 months ago. BUT it's still great. I've started from Ep01 and am about 7 episodes in now and I get a nugget or 2 from every listen. As a Documentary Filmmaker who is very much on my own with my projects, this is a wonderful way to know that there's more of me out there. Thanks Chris!

Awesome Listen even for non-doc people
I’m not involved in documentary filmmaking at all (other than watching) but l LOVE to listen to Chris Parkhurst’s The Documentary Life. I highly recommend his film “Journey to Kathmandu” as well as his work on the doc “Bomb Hunters”. I am a non-tech oriented old guy, but have been able to utilize some of his ideas for multi-stream fundraising in general, as well as in my freelance work as a musician. Great job, Chris!

Great Filmmaking Podcast
This podcast is a godsend. It's film school (and so much more) in audio form. It will help walk you through everyting you need to make a documentary. Obviously, making a film is more than just listening to a podcast, but if have questions, this podcast will help answer those questions.

A Great Listen
I'm not sure where to begin. There are many great things about this podcast, so I'll just pick a few of my favorites. First, I love that Chris provides this (3rd person) documentarian (and I intentionally avoided writing "aspiring") with a sense that I am not alone. Rather, I'm part of a big community that is still very much in the process of growing larger and stronger. I think we documentarians feel very isoloate and this podcast helps create a much stronger community.
Another great aspect about the podcast - similar to the previous comment - is that it provides a lot of useful tools to help each of us write our own narrative as filmmakers: getting grass roots support for our film, how to help get financial resources to make our films, industry guests that share plenty of great advice, equipment, etc. This is a very daunting exeprience, but Chris does a really nice job of helping us out.
I just came across the podcast about a week ago (I think after episode 65) and am already through about 12 episodes. Can't wait to get caught up.
Good on ya, Chris! Keep it up!

Love the Doc Advice!
I love all of the advice about editing. Editing really makes or breaks a film and brings it from ok to amazing. Loved all of the tips!! This is a great podcast for aspiring and experienced filmmakers alike. Great listen :)

Great input for beginners and all levels
I am an aspiring filmmaker actively seeking out anyhting I can on the process. Chris Parkh does a great job of showing us a "slice of life" so to speak as he is completely transpartent and geniune about his successes and failures. I highly recommend it to anyone from the basic beginner to the aspiring pro that wants to go to the "next level".

So good!
I am working hard on a feature-length documentary so I looked around a bit for a podcast to help teach and inspire me and The Documentary Life has does both of those for me. Having abandoned several documentary project in the past, I have been striving to see this one through to completion and this podcast I am hoping will help me with that.
Chris seems quite humble and earnest, having very relevant experience that he generously shares. It feels like he is working on the podcast to build a community of individuals that can help each other.
Thanks for your great work Chris!

It clearly shows when you hear a pro talk about what they love.
It is awesome to find a podcast with hosts that really love what they do and the passion in their voice shows. This to me was one of them. Fun, awesome, and filled with great information about documentaries.
Why am I gonna keep listening? Well, one, I want to start a YouTube channel and have great content on it. As a new fan I’ve listened to 5 episodes and trust me when I say that little things I never even thought of came out. I know a YouTube channel isn’t quite what it’s done here but it sure doesn’t hurt to listen to best practices on the craft when it comes to filming.
Second, they are experts in the field so who else would I listen to?
I love it and really recommend it to everyone looking to have that extra edge in the field. My documentary stats NOW!
