As disabled people ourselves, the topic of Disability Rights isn't simply on our minds, and is constantly impacting our lives. Sarah Goldman worked in the Florida legislative system for about five years, and is now working for the Florida Independent Living Council as the state-wide Director of Youth initiatives. We talk about everything from marriage equality to income caps, and what disabled people can do to combat that.

Talking is something that a lot of people take for granted. Often, especially when we are younger, we're reprimanded by parents and teachers to "Speak up," "Speak Clearly," or "Don't repeat yourself." For individuals like Jesse Schwartzman, these aren't nearly as easy you'd think they'd be. Jesse describes his stutter, explaining that it can make him feel like he doesn't have air. When he's not focused or overwhelmed, it feels like he is separate from his body. Navigating these feelings, along with the social anxiety that comes with them, we talk about the assumptions that people make about those of us with invisible disabilities. And don't ever tell a person with a stutter to "Take their time!"

In the spirit of Pride, we bring back friend of the show and former state legislator Jennifer Webb. We speak about the importance of Pride versus people intolerant of change. We tell stories from our own lives and experiences, and discuss why our government should be creating systems to give equal opportunity for all people, including those who are members of minority communities. Lastly, we touch on the importance of pronouns, why you should respect people that use non-traditional pronouns, and why identifying with a non-traditional pronoun should not be treated as "ridiculous."

Spoiler alert: even if you aren't disabled right now, disability will eventually come for you too. *Cue evil laughing. * No, but seriously: maybe you grew up disabled or became disabled with age. However you stumble into our fractured little world, disability will eventually become an important part of who you are. We speak with Alison Avery about Friedreich’s Ataxia, how that has impacted her life as she has gotten older, and how people ask us if we'd like to be able-bodied.
