Sex Education with Jackie
There is no nationally mandated sex education curriculum in the US, as a result of this there are 25 states in America that are not legally required to teach ANY type of sex education to their students. In this series, I am going from state to state to talk to educators, policy makers, and students about the sex education in their state. My name is Jackie, and I am a sex educator in New Jersey here to inform on the dirty truth about sex education in America.
Texas: Dirty South Sex Ed with Irma
I interviewed abortion advocate and badass sex educator Irma on the sex education laws in Texas, and the effect that these laws have on young people from a first hand perspective.  Irma is a certified sex educator promoting pleasure in the Deep South. She runs the platform "Dirty South Sex Ed" which you can find her on Instagram at @sexedwithirma.  Texas has not revised their sex education curriculum since 1994. The state also does not require sex education, nor does it require HIV/AIDS education. They receive the largest amount of abstinence only funding in the country.

Expansion of Sex Education in England
England passed a law in March of 2019 that will be going into effect this September stating that all schools are required to follow new national relationship and sex education guidelines.  Sex and relationship education (SRE) is compulsory from age 11 onwards. It involves teaching children about reproduction, sexuality and sexual health. It does not promote early sexual activity or any particular sexual orientation. Some parts of sex and relationship education are compulsory - these are part of the national curriculum for science. Parents can withdraw their children from all other parts of sex and relationship education if they want. All schools must have a written policy on sex education, which they must make available to parents for free. What does that look like in practice though? What has it looked like in the past? Tune in to find out.

'Marriage and Family' in New Jersey
In this episode I am  discussing the sex education curriculum in New Jersey. I am discussing the history of the curriculum in New Jersey, as well as the structure of how the curriculum is delivered. I also speak about the discrepancies among biases that could effect how the curriculum is interpreted. I discuss the implications of introducing same sex marriage later in education, the risk aversion process, and "stress abstinence" laws and how they effect the student.
