A film school
So many gems shared in every episode. Grateful for the directors’ generosity in giving insight into their process + craft.

Essential podcast but I have one note
If you’re not going to include audio of the questions being asked by audience members, please try to insist that the speakers restate the question before it’s answered.

As a young Director, these conversations are super inspiring! Thank you for sharing them

Amazing!
Thanks for sharing these conversations. The Spike - Turturro episode was amazing!

I cant stand William Friedkin voice
I absolutely love this podcast. Almost every episode is amazing. But the Darren Aaronofsky and William Friedkin episode seems so uncomfortable for Darren. William is direct and blunt I get that but I can’t stand the way he conducts interviews. I can’t imagine him on set talking to actors and krew members.

Insightful!
Hearing directors interviewed by other directors is an excellent format!

Dan Adams is a crook and the DGA should be ashamed
He bounced a 12k check to my production company after we delivered final VFX shots on his film Golden Boys. The guy left us unable to pay our artists.

Great interviews
Love the insight!!
Unhappy pizza man
Great podcast but
Please don’t ever, ever invite William Friedkin back on. Have just listened to the mother! episode from 2017 and he’s an absolute nightmare. Props to Aronofsky for keeping his cool. Also, consider providing Zoom guests with appropriate recording equipment. It’s been difficult to listen to the Meet the Nominees episodes because the audio is so bad.

Diversity interviews
Great interviews we can listen to in this podcast! Congrats! How about diversifying a little! Greta Gerwig could interview Regina King, for instance! Barry Jenkins could interview a female director! If we are going to assume inclusivity, we should go all the way!

This is my new favorite podcast
much wasted time
Fantastic interviews and insight.
Spike and John need their own show.

Audio Overprocessed / Content great
The two stars are off cause it is hard to listen to as the audio is overprocessed. Could DGA look into it please. I think what you are doing is you are running a hum removal, a noice removal, a compressor and that creates this modulating effect. A little hum and noise is much better than an over processed audio. Love the content, especially Ang Lee sharing things that did not work and lots more.

Interesting talks
I love hearing directors talk about their craft but I can’t stand Jeremy Kagan as a moderator for these conversations. Please replace him.

Ron Howard Interview
Super interview! Fabulous interviewer and, of course, Ron Howard was smart and endearing.

Excellent film show
Always enlightening, wish the episodes would go longer!

Arrogant interviewer of Q&Slim
Listen to yourself. As if Melina has you to thank for the success of her film bc you flew out to interview her and grace her with your support of the film. Please. My guess is she had to hold back eye rolls at your colorblind comments about the film that was over your head. Still, I’m sure she’ll continue to grow in her success—all due to your unsolicited advice at the end of the interview, naturally.

Too short and sound quality can be a mixed bag.
Great stuff. But too short. When you get Paul Thomas Anderson interviewing Quentin Tarantino, it should longer than 30 minutes. Much longer. And the sound quality can sometimes be poor. Listening to Olivia Wilde and Nicole Holofcener, I could not hear most of what Holofcener said. Still a 4 star podcast. Great variety of films discussed.

Whether you've seen the movie or not, these conversations are fascinating.

Brilliant Access.
As an ardent cinephile, I can't express how fantastic this podcast is. Candid, intellectual and fun conversations between directors about their latest works. I heavily encourage everybody to check this podcast out and revel in all of its gems!

Simply, a cinephile’s dream....
Love this podcast. Because the questions come from their peers, it’s an unbelievable amount of information for a film lover that a standard press junket interview wouldn’t come anywhere close to giving you. Love. Love. Love. Thank you DGA. Thank you.

Favorite Movie Podcast
This is my favorite movie podcast. Having directors interview each other is so refreshing. That is what really separates this from other director interviews. I love to watch the movie first then listen to the episode. Keep it going!

Short and sweet
Short but informative episodes featuring big-name Hollywood directors? I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about this before now! The biggest drawback here is that there is often a lot of self-congratulatory talk going on, albeit in between actual interesting, insightful, and informative discussion.

So far I’ve listened to interviews with PT Anderson, Greta Gerwig and Guillermo del Toro. Each one was as entertaining as it was inspiring. I highly recommend. You can’t regret it.

Exceptional and enjoyable insights.
I’d like longer episodes.

Love this Podcast
As an aspiring filmmaker, I love hearing other filmmakers talk about how they complete their process.

Emphasis on cut
Really wish these went on longer. Always seems like they end right when they should really be ramping up. You've got two directors and two captive audiences. What's the rush? Don't know if the discussions are edited down for the podcast. If so, please consider just releasing the whole, unexpurgated enchilada. Still essential listening if you're a film fan, as brief as they may be.

Could be better
I'd ask you don't record these interviews in front of an audience. Sort of turns into an attempt to joke around. Like a farty NPR session. Could use a more private, intimate setting for a more informative, detailed discussion.

Brave New World
What we now know about Katwe, Uganda is that we will need to perform better to approach their way of spirit toward life. Disney has tapped into a magic that has not been seen before. Thank you to the filmmakers of Queen of Katwe for enlightening us on Uganda and to the DGA for bringing this Podcast featuring the Queen of Katwe director. See this film.

Highly Entertaining and Informative!
I just started listening to The Director’s Cut. As a lover of film it is really awesome to hear accomplished directors interview each other about the movie making process. Never thought I’d hear Martin Scorcese interview Spielberg himself! It is truly like being a fly on the wall at a meeting of the minds. I can’t wait to see who ends up being interviewed in this series. 5 STARS
