Hung up on Bad Faith Host
This guy is pretentious, entitled and cold. He hung up with brilliant podcaster Briahna Joy Gray because he had no retort for her assertions. Bad faith actor indeed!

Analyzing Conjuncture at its Best
Hands down my favorite podcast and the single best political education resource I’ve encountered, I learn more from Dan Denvir and his exceptional guests with every episode. Cannot recommend highly enough to serious organizers looking to understand the present in order to develop winning strategies to change the world

Outstanding
This has been an incredibly helpful resource to learn more deeply from other people of conscience organizing for a better world. Equally important: always a deeply enjoyable listen to share with your loved ones. My husband and I always leave buzzing with more to talk about.

Imperial left
Been a listener for some time now and I can’t believe the length this show goes to soft paddle imperial propaganda. It sure is easy to singsong western style democracy (even though the famous 2014 study showed that in the U.S. ordinary ppl practically have 0 influence on policy) and condemn “authoritarian states” when you don’t have to face the wrath of a nuclear power that sanctions, coups, invades, and bombs with no impunity. The inability to analyze geopolitical reality using dialectical materialism even though Marx is quoted ad nauseam in every episode is only cringy, if not for its utility to window dressing the facile critiques. And I thought this is a show free of “Western Marxists”.

Disappointed in new Venezuela coverage
I usually like The Dig, and liked the episode on Vz from a few years ago, but the new ep is very disappointing. Constantly referencing stolen elections and authoritarianism with no pushback and no nuance. Especially given recent events it is really disappointing to see how anti-Maduro and anti-PSUV this episode was. I hope we can get an ep in the future that takes a more balanced approach to this

Great!
One of the best podcasts anywhere..

Get to the point!
Daniel’s interview questions are often unbearably long. I ran out of patience after a few episodes. He just goes on and on and on with multiple layers of questions and context before letting the interviewee speak. Several hundreds words at least!

Education for Improving Society
Dan Denvir’s podcast has introduced me to many brave thinkers, historical events, and interesting ideas that have changed the way I understand the world. I recommend to anyone who wants to DIG in to our human histories. Most of the 150 interviews are lengthy, and the host clearly puts in a great deal of effort to understand the guest’s work, to craft great questions, and build a great conversation meant to connect with a listener eager to learn. Some of the episodes are very timely, scheduled to meet a moment. Some are massive projects, such as the Thawra series on the history of the middle east and Arab world of today. Some drill into a specific’place and time, say NYC’s shift into neoliberalism. Some address broader, radical philosophical approaches and thinkers featuring scholastic luminaries of left feminisms. This is a podcast that I would love to share with more people. It is worthy of our attention and financial support.

Appreciation post
As a resident in an area of DC hit hardest, the episode with Toscano is appreciated and respected. analysis and amplification of free dc movement, bowser, and the collateral of our humans is needed on this podcast. We hear too often “we see what’s happening in dc” without proper and justified discussion on the specifics. Thanks Dan

Deep analysis of or on a wide range.
Often in depth, excellent guests, leans academic but manages to cover a lot of subjects From the history of the PLO, to Gramsci to global warming, to the union movement to the current moment and beyond. The host is very diligent and remarkably well prepared for each guest.

sporadically great content, too many dudes
important listening and i have learned a lot from the content and work to contextualize movements. but the gender disparity in guests (who tend to hail from an in-crowd of jacobin and boston review adjacent micro-celebrities) can get depressing. the left is bigger than this. i listen in small doses. for example: it is currently june 2025, and last woman interviewed on any episode was back in march (on a two-guest interview where the other person was a dude). the last single-interview with a woman was in february. y’all: this is getting cliche!! i would support on patreon if there were more steps taken around gender parity. for now i highly recommend the outstanding “millennials are killing capitalism” pod as a less elitist, more radical alternative!

Excellent insights, even for those who disagree
I am consistently struck by this podcast’s commitment to understanding widely divergent political traditions on their own terms. Its commitment to the systematic excavation of ideas as they develop over the long arc of history is admirable, even for those who might disagree with the podcast’s left-wing perspective.

Best political education project in English
An essential listen for people interested in history, politics, labor and other organizing, the Left, and more. One of the bright spots in 21st-century US culture.

The Dig is a serious pod for people who love deep diving
I’ve been listening off and on to the Dig for a couple of years now and I still cannot believe how thoughtful and deep this project is. Daniel Denvir is a real one. Keep it up.

Simply the best
The Dig is the next best thing to spending an afternoon reading a compelling piece of political nonfiction. The host is always well prepared with excellent questions and discussion prompts for the guest(s), the content is broad without sacrificing depth, and the “ad” reads are minimal and usually just for independent publishing companies that put out the very books I mentioned above. I’ve been listening to the Dig for close to a decade at this point and it’s played a big role in expanding my political horizons and helping me stay in touch with the political goings on domestically and internationally.

Indispensable
The most important, comprehensive, and accessible left political education project / podcast- think tank hybrid (it’s unique, folks!) today. Sophisticated and sharp analysis and commentary that is an absolutely indispensable resource for activists, scholars, and anyone interested in the conditions of possibility for the resurgence of an organized and effective Left

Best podcast for and by the left
Daniel Denvir does an incredible job digging deep into a variety of topics. If you want to hear an interesting prespective and truly learn something when you listen to podcast this is for you!

Thawra
After listening to the 40 hours of Thawra, I cannot but thank Dan and all The Dig radio team for putting together this inspiring and brilliant series. The story told by the guest, Abdel Razzaq Takriti, is the story of colonization and resistance in the Middle East, focusing on the twentieth century but giving enough historical context to make the audience understand why things developed the way they did. Razzaq Takriti makes available to the non-Arabic English-speaking audience a story that otherwise would be impossible to know at such depth and which (oh surprise!) resembles to that of other regions in the Third World such as Latin America. I particularly appreciate how the specificities of the Arab world are contextualized in a larger conversation and how the incredible in-depth historical analysis is complemented with some allusions to Arabic literature and culture. This series is an indispensable piece to understand what is happening in Palestine today and what is the role of the global left in it (other great episodes of The Dig about the Middle East and the Muslim world are the interviews with Ussama Makdisi and Tariq Ali); it also demonstrates what a powerful political and pedagogical tool a podcast can be, and how dialogue and conversation is in itself an epistemological device to understand the past.

Outstanding series
Thawra stands head and shoulders above all podcasts on recent Arab history. Please accept my humble thanks. If I could afford it, I would definitely support you more.

Glad to see The Dig cover animal liberation
I was really happy to see the Sunaura Taylor episode. Unfortunately animal liberation does seem to get ignored on the left and it’s an extremely urgent political and ethical issue. I’d love to hear an interview with Dinesh Joseph Wadiwel on The Dig! His book Animals and Capital applies Marx’s value theory to animal labor in capitalist food production.

Quite possibly the best podcast on politics
I’ve been listening to The Dig since 2017, and it quickly become appointment listening for me. Host Dan Denvir never fails to ask thoughtful, well-researched questions, and the quality of guest is unfailingly excellent. I especially admire the show’s unwavering commitment to internationalism. I know so much more about the struggles, dreams and situations of the world’s people thanks to Dan Denvir, his support staff, and the brilliant guests featured here.

Too much Thawra.
Honestly didn’t have an issue until like episode 7/16 or so, when they consistently started to clock in over 2 hours where Daniel took a backseat in all the interviews. Not even disorganized or uninteresting, just feels like it could have been more concise than what I believe combined is nearly 30 hours of material. Very good work but a criticism that I think needs to be said, especially as the epilogue rolls through recently.

A wonderful podcast
A wonderfully detailed and narrated podcast. I fully recommend to anyone interested in learning about the history of the Middle East. Not a whitewashed history most of us are familiar with, but a much deeper richer account.

My favorite leftist analysis podcast. I always learn so much

Wow
I just listened to your interview/discussion with Mohammed el-Kurd. Bravo, just bravo! I am strengthened by both of you, but especially with how Mohammed finished the podcast. The comparison of life in the Us currently, where pro Palestinian people are getting resistance and punishment for their views-to life in the occupied West Bank. The absolute necessity of not being intimidated and silenced, but continuing to publicly resist and push back. YES. All of our lives, the lives of future generations- living with dignity and justice-depends on what we do right now.

Great show for people on the left who want to learn and think
Dan Denvir is a deeply thoughtful and well prepared host. He goes deep on a wide range of topics including issues around the world with very smart and interesting guests. Check out the 9+ hour long series on the modern history or Iran for the ur-Dig experience

A morally unmoored left
I’m unsubscribing from this podcast for its cowardly, tankie apologia for war crimes. Its a betrayal of leftist principles, and its a movement I will never, ever participate in.

Been listening for years: no more
No mention of concertgoers murdered and kidnapped because it’s by your chosen side? A leftism that can’t decry murder of innocent people is a cold pose indeed. Your academic learning defends you well. Unfollowed.

Brilliant yet chilling Higher Ed analysis
Excellent discussion of the past, present and future of higher education. I now have a broader understanding of the social and political economic forces that have brought us to the crisis we see today.

Listening to saliva the entire episode
The host and guests really need to drink water before recording. Dry mouth leads to being able to hear the movement of your spirit through the entire episode and nothing is more disgusting in a podcast.
