I met you ladies at crime con and I am so glad I did! I didn’t know what to expect but once I played my first episode, I couldn’t stop :) I’m excited to have a new fun podcast to listen to this summer and look forward to your new ones! I’m the girl from Buffalo who met that creepy guy who wanted to go to Buffalo Wild Wings and took off while he was in the bathroom. I trusted my femtuition ;)

Only Podcast I have Stuck To
These ladies (on and off the mic) are amazing and have really improved their craft over the years! I usually drop off with podcasts in a few weeks time, but I always find myself waiting IMPATIENTLY for Mondays.
My only constructive critique (and I can tell theres been a concerted effort to address this) is dig into more of the ugly, uncomfortable, but brutally honest WHY. Yes, sometimes the decisions we make are irrational. A lot of the guests are putting up with craziness, but for human reasons that aren’t expounded upon and oftentimes shrugged off or justified in ways that don’t make sense as a listener. It’s ok to say you were desperate/needy/lonely etc. we just want honesty as to why, not smoke and mirrors. Thats where the reflection and growth can happen for US.
But I love this show so much. Thank you guys for all the hard work ❤️

Disappointed in the politics brought into the podcast
Listening to the most recent episode with the horrible woman that frames conservatives as the only people who could be addicted to porn, as well as other episodes from the last year, it’s so disappointing that the DD hosts are allowing such hateful rhetoric on their podcast while being a self-claimed “inclusive” podcast. Not everything has to be about politics. And I can assure you that it’s not just one side of the political spectrum that has addictions and can be horrible people. So disappointing.

Not impressed
My introduction was the episode about Abby and the cult. Abby’s giggling through her questionable choices, and abuse is wild. This is not laughing matter. I’m out.

Hypocrites
I’ve listened to and followed The Dating Detectives for a while now because I appreciated the way they publicly frame themselves as a supportive platform that gives women space to safely share vulnerable dating and relationship experiences. I was referred to the podcast by a friend of mine who strongly suggested I share my story with them.
Unfortunately, my personal experience with them has felt very different from the values they promote.
I began submitting my story in May of 2025, soon after my friend encouraged me to submit, and continued submitting/following up over the course of many months. I never once received acknowledgment, closure, or even a simple “no thank you.” At the same time, I continued hearing episodes featuring stories submitted only weeks before airing — some more traumatic than mine, some much less traumatic.
To be clear: I do not believe anyone is entitled to airtime. Podcasts are allowed to curate their content however they choose. The issue is the disconnect between publicly encouraging vulnerability and privately responding to some people with complete silence.
If you are going to market yourselves as a safe, supportive, women-supporting-women platform, there should be basic respect and accountability built into the process — especially when people are sharing painful and/or deeply personal experiences. And then are just completely disregarded entirely.
For those of us with histories of emotional invalidation, dismissal, or manipulation, repeatedly opening up and being ignored by a platform that explicitly promotes “support” and “community” can have a real psychological impact. It reinforces the exact feelings many listeners come to these spaces carrying in the first place: that some voices matter and others simply don’t.
Again, this isn’t about not being chosen. It’s about the hypocrisy of publicly preaching support, empowerment, and safe storytelling while privately failing to acknowledge people who trusted you enough to share their stories at all.
I genuinely hope they reflect on the gap between the values they claim to promote and the experience some contributors are actually having behind the scenes.

“Femtuition” barf
Stop saying that women like Hannah who return to their awful partners over and over again have “femtuition”. They clearly have no intuition or common sense.

I love yall.
I just wanna say Hannah is a trooper. But I was getting so mad at the fact that yall had to much compassion for C. She was the puppet since her roommate passed her along!!!!!

Apologies
I left an unnecessarily harsh review based on a first impression, and honestly, I was wrong. After listening more and finding the right playback speed for me, I completely changed my mind and now I’m hooked. I judged way too quickly and way too harshly. That was unfair to the host, so I’m correcting it with the 5 stars it deserves.

No More Undercover Episodes PLEASE
I am so disappointed on the weeks where it’s a Mackenzie Undercover (or whoever the other lame undercover person is). I literally don’t listen those weeks. BORING.

Love this podcast!
If only this would have been around years ago! So much insight and great information. Thanks to all the people that have come forward with their stories.

Read the comments.
I agree with the constructive criticism. All of it. We are over the Mackenzie valley girl/southern act; Hannah makes things so weird. Molly is the best. The concept is so good. The execution is lacking.
Hear Mackenzie laugh for real, for the first time in the 12/1/2025 episode 4:11 in. She can be authentic!!
Edit: a while back I saw some people discussing how McKenzie’s stories are fake. I didn’t really agree with that until the prenup episode on 4/27. It sounds entirely fabricated, where she says she climbed on top of a windshield. And video recorded out the sun roof. Be so for real.

Great show!
I love this show! I look forward to the episode each week. That said, please more guests and fewer undercover episodes.
Thanks for doing what you do!

Thrill sophomoric, tropes by one of the hosts makes listening unbearable. “Oh my Gaaaawd-ah”
This could be a good show. I listened to one episode and the story was good.
One of the hosts asks calm adult questions. I’d recommend that the other host take note and/or enroll in some broadcasting classes or voice lessons.
My eyeballs were exhausted from all the rolling.

McKenzie’s bubbly backwoods persona is annoying. We’re all asking her to just turn it down a few notches plzzz.

Sydney did a great job, despite her anxiety. I will double down on the don’t be a SAHM…it’s the hardest job in the world but women lose respect, no matter what people say, but you lose resources and autonomy. And financial stability…don’t ever think you will never be a single mom. I always worked but I knew my husband was not capable of being a single dad. That paycheck of yours , no matter how small, gives you power.

True Crime Lite
I used to love true crime podcasts, but after suffering from panic attacks, I was advised to stop listening. Then I found The Dating Detectives: a perfectly non-gory collection of true crime stories. Mackenzie and Hanna are amazing at treating their guests with respect while encouraging listeners to ditch the “perfect victim” mentality. While guests are usually women, it is abundantly clear that dogfish can affect anyone. The Dating Detectives does a fantastic job of spotlighting cautionary tales with plenty of room for laughs and a little tea.

My new pod besties
I found Makenzie’s videos a couple years ago and of course fell in love with her personality then discovered the pod pretty recently. It makes me feel so much better about my less than spectacular dating history. Oh boy do I have a story to submit. It makes the long nights at work go by so much faster and let me tell you the tea is always piping hot!

Complicated
I really do love listening to this show…hearing from the folks who have experienced this is great…but the AAVE that McKenzie uses is beyond offensive and obnoxious. I wish she would stop and reflect, I want to keep listening to this podcast!

Fun and mindless entertainment
So I started hate listening after I heard about the whole Turkish rug episode controversy and then they slowly won me over. Don’t get me wrong, I do think they behaved poorly and the apology was even worse but I desperately needed something to listen to when I clean house and want to drown out my kids. The episodes are entertaining and the stories are crazy, some episodes probably embellished a little or a lot but whatever. So while every damn podcast is behind a paywall now I am having a hard time finding shows and they have so many episodes available, I would never financial support the show but I will listen to their free stuff. Also would be great if Mackenzie could stop yelling in the microphone or making weird mouth noises. Ok? Perfect, thanks!

Workout partner—
Take the show to the gym, put in earbuds- I constantly add 20 more minutes on the elliptical because I can’t stop listening. Often cautionary tales - that can be empowering.

Will still listen, but….
I love the show, thus the 5 stars. But…. oh when Mackenzie starts getting that weird southern/gangster accent thing she does it just makes my ears burn. She talks normal 90% of the time, thank goodness.

Love the concept
Although I love the concept and the stories I could really do without the childish laughter and exaggeration while speaking. I get your excitement but please tone it down. Otherwise, great show.

i LOVE the two part episodes
I can’t remember how I stumbled upon the podcast but it’s the only one I’ve listened to in over a month! When the commercial break sound comes on, and there are no commercials and it plays again immediately I get the biggest smile in the car. The stories are tragic and juicy and infuriating and eye opening. I could do with less “Willy-nilly’s” but it’s all love for Mackenzie. I’m thinking about joining Patreon for the first time to get to bonus shows and content 💜

Becoming unlistenable
I really enjoy listening to the guests. But Mackenzie’s interruptions make the story unlistenable. Her constant use of AAVE in an attempt to be funny is offensive and annoying. She constantly interrupts the guests to say something pointless, and you can tell that even the guests are confused and annoyed. After the Turkish Rug Pull episode, I’m done. Find a better host and vet your stories.

Great info!
I love hearing these stories. I have been divorced since 2018, after listening to all these people and what they’ve gone through, I don’t know if trying for a relationship is worth the potential for disaster and pain!

Please don’t apologize—we love the authenticity!
Anyone upset about the hosts allowing people to be honest and vulnerable without judgement from hosts is insane. Mackenzie is so refreshingly authentic and wonderful. Just wish they didn’t feel the need to apologize. Angry loud people aren’t the actual bulk of listeners. Hanna please stop virtue signaling and doing 10 minutes of throat clearing before every opinion. We get it, you’re woke, your medal’s in the mail.

Very Entertaining
Feel sorry for them that they have to apologise to the woke all the time. Be careful woke types…this is how censorship starts and freedom of speech erodes. If you don’t like the show find a podcast that doesn’t offend your particular sensibilities.

Unsubstantiated and Full of Bull.
It’s funny to me that this podcast has so many followers but it makes sense. There’s a lot of story telling and very little fact checking. Enjoy the tangled web they weave.

Accountability for thee…
Is content becoming scarce at TDD? Turkish Rug Pull had a splash of racism, a splash of homophobia, a dowse of dark vengeance and missed ingredients of discretionary content selections conducive to the platform.

Not as bad as what people say but..
Wanted to put 5 stars to offset the 1 star reviews - the way that the issue on Turkish Rug Pull was dealt with, to me, was sufficient in order to move on and learn. However, I found the threats to “dig up your skeletons” distasteful. They almost stuck the landing, and then, that?

Stop Apologizing
Please stop apologizing for your real reactions. You guys act like you aren’t allowed to be yourselves. You don’t have to feel like everyone else feels. Stop babying the people who can’t handle it. You guys are too sensitive. You are great amazing people. People are allowed to think differently. Stop with the warnings. If you keep letting the small amount of people make you feel bad then your podcast will implode. Be real people. Not everyone gets their way. If you can’t handle real ish then stop listening. It’s literally the most annoying part of this podcast. Stop with the warnings. You are great. The stories are great. It’s REAL life. So stop.

Lost a listener
Following up an apology with rationalizing your behavior and threats to expose critics completely negates your apology. Saying that you didn’t realize people were being put into dangerous situations because you’re also “a little gay” and you have a gay mom?? Cringe. This show has always been a little tone deaf but this episode and follow up “apology” just left me feeling like I cannot continue to listen and support.

It’s ok to say “no” to some stories
Love this show a lot, but like a lot of other people have said, that last episode “Turkish rug pull” just did not belong on your podcast. It’s not about being politically correct or too sensitive, it’s about giving a voice on a comedy podcast to a woman who knowingly took calculated measures to victimize other people to achieve her own ends. She was scammed and dogfished and we feel bad for her, yes, but then turns around and callously and selfishly puts innocent strangers in a potentially harmful or deadly situation? It’s her story and there is no such thing as a perfect victim, but we’re not talking about a wife keying her cheating husband‘s car, this is someone who thought it was ok to put others’ lives at risks because she got scammed. And, she nor anyone else can possibly be absolutely certain that other people weren’t hurt. And if they were hurt or killed, would it have been worth your $30,000 then? Overall, this was a crazy story, sure, but it didn’t belong on this podcast. I just want to let you know that it’s not your job to give every single story a platform, and if you don’t condone it, then don’t put it out there. This is a comedy podcast with nice intentions, but it’s not dateline or 60 minutes. A story like that belongs on a more serious podcast where it would be discussed in a different way. It’s ok to say no! <3

Should have just said “We will do better”
I have not been a super huge fan of this podcast. I always skip the intros and the debrief. The hosts always talk over each other, don’t actually say anything that insightful and seem more performative than authentic. However, I do like the guests and their stories. The Turkish Rug episode was not great, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. It was the following episode where they addressed the homophobia in the Turkish Rug episode that did it for me. In the intro for PIs Gone Wild, they were super aggressive and gave reasons to excuse the guest’s actions and their responses. “Trauma!” “Excited that she got her money back!” There was no true accountability. Just instructions telling us to not throw stones unless we are free of sin. This is a classic white woman response, along with listing the gay people they know ( its giving “I have a black friend”). Homophobia (like patriarchy and racism) are systems that are specifically designed to seep into the subconscious. Even if you are a queer/gay person, you may still be guilty of perpetuating homophobia. Hannah did mention her privilege, but never actually unpacked it in a way that felt honest to the mistake they made. None of them know with absolute certainty that no gay men were hurt due to the guest’s actions of putting them in a harmful position. The hosts just celebrated the woman getting her money back because that’s what important and then complimented her skills of revenge. What the guest did was inexcusable and if anyone was hurt, she is to blame. Their responses to her actions are indicative of bigger issues within themselves. We all have issues to unpack to be responsible humans. I don’t have to be free of sin to hold someone accountable. We will only get better collectively if we hold each other’s feet to the fire. Two wrongs do not make a right, a lesson we learned as children. I was already on the fence about the hosts and their hosting abilities, so their lack of willing to just fall on their sword is the sign I needed to unsubscribe. I hope the hosts look at themselves, their absolute privilege and do better.

Crazy these comments
The people in the comments need to learn discernment when consuming content. The gals apologized, it’s crazy to just rip them to shreds. Do we all need to share a brain these days? Holy.

No longer a listener.
I had listened to Dating Detectives for a while. I didn’t even listen to the episode that’s causing all of the outrage as I was super busy this week. But Mackenzie’s threat to dig up her critics’ skeletons in their closets during her non-apology was just beyond the pale.

Surrogate
Poor Adam & Rob. Betty is diabolical; the nerve of suing Stacey!?! And to be a mother of 2 already with Rob. Steve is a double dipping Cheater.
I wonder if the $ was recouped by Adam. I bet you he’s the one who financed the “surrogacy” 100%.
What a story!

Cannot support any longer
The hosts of this show claim that they are unbiased and here as a platform for those in need, but if you listen through the lens of experience you can hear some majorly problematic biases. This show has a tendency to prioritize monetizing people sharing their stories over asking themselves whether or not they should always be shared. Having experienced trauma myself, there is no way to spin the content from the Turkish Rug Pull episode in such a way where the victim’s behavior did not in turn victimize many others. Maybe if she had been apologetic about it that would be one thing, but she was very clearly happy with the unethical behavior. Retaliatory behavior is not something we should be celebrating as a society, nor can it be explained away by the science of trauma. People are still accountable to their choices. It causes more pain in its wake to support retaliation. The apology they gave in the following episode was not exactly that-Mackenzie told listeners to “shut up” and went so far as to say that she had looked up some of those sharing negative comments using her PI privileges as retaliation or a scare tactic. That was really not okay. I just can’t support this anymore ladies, and neither can my friends and family. Wishing you well in your journey to identify who you really want to be and what mark you really want to leave on this world through what could be a great platform.

Turkish Rug Pull
I support Lena and I support this podcast. This is supposed to be a safe space for everybody to share their stories without judgment. After reading most of the hateful comments, it’s going to make me wonder if anyone will want to share their stories because of the fear of getting judged and hated on.
So, thank you to the haters out there, because of you no one is going to feel safe sharing their stories anymore.

Oops and …Ew.
I think there’s been value, validation and entertainment in the stories shared by victims, survivors and PI experiences. However, the Turkish Rug retaliation story that likely caused harm for innocent people and the clunky follow-up are unacceptable. Best wishes to everyone involved in the future, but I guess I’m done listening to serious situations with glee and giggles.

Spare me the non-apology apology
Sick and shameful.
The guest was scammed and I genuinely empathize with that, but what she described doing next was NOT a lapse in judgment. She created a fake Grindr profile to catfish gay men in a Middle Eastern country where LGBTQ people can face severe consequences, then intentionally sent unsuspecting men to a rug store. That is calculated, it is cruel and it puts innocent lives in danger. The guest laughed through the story and sounded proud, not remorseful and the hosts laughed, squealed and treated it like entertainment--later excusing it as some sort of psychological blackout despite the obvious premeditation, planning and execution involved.
She also described verbally abusing children connected to the situation and leaving retaliatory reviews that could harm neighboring businesses that tried to warn her. When listeners raised thoughtful pushback, comments were deleted and the follow up episode--AKA the non-apology apology--included shaming the audience, dismissing accountability and even threats to expose critics’ “skeletons.” I am not asking for a “perfect victim.”
Listeners are asking for basic humanity, remorse and hosts who understand that endangering vulnerable people is not a punchline. I am done listening.
