In our busy world, it can be hard to take the time to approach things with a sense of whimsy, wonder and imagination. The Cryptonaturalist has reminded me to do just that. Its charming cast of characters, distinct style and exploration into flora and fauna that exist just outside of what we know is both refreshing and genuinely enjoyable. It feels like I’m listening to an old radio show in my dad’s Jeep in the best way possible. This show has inspired me to regain my sense of whimsy, and it’s definitely worth a listen or two.

I truly cherish this podcast. It features a creativity and originality not often found, I eagerly look forward to every new episode. As someone who deeply values nature, creativity, fantasy, art and mental health, this show combines all of these things in an artful way that leaves me feeling really fulfilled. I am so grateful this podcast is here and hope for many more episodes into the future.

This podcast feels like home to me. It's a perfect blend of nostalgia, mental health, botany, sunbeams, tire tracks, and deep breaths. It's charming and strange, as is the precious and humble narrator. I would be lost without it.

I learned about this podcast from the creator’s Instagram account. That account shares a lot of great posts filled with wisdom. The podcast is different, mostly in that there is more humor, but it is just as quality content even if different. If you have a drive and want to feel more relaxed or if you are taking a walk through the woods, this podcast will serve you well.

A podcast that will change the way you view the world. Magical mystical musings that will transport you to new (if nearly imaginary) realms. Also highly recommended: Jarod Anderson’s poetry collection A Field Guide to the Haunted Forest.

It's amazing how a fictional podcast can express such love for the nonfiction of the world around us. I find it difficult to truly distinguish the author from the narrator. The overarching theme of the Cryptonaturalist is amazement and love for the natural world and our human ability to perceive it. While the cryptids featured are creatively captured, I am captivated by the overall tone of gratefulness and appreciation for life on earth, our life on earth, that runs through each episode. I especially love the hidden lore segments, couched within each narrative; these submissions of short fiction, prose, and poetry further blur the line of the listener's understanding of the real and the surreal within the show. Even with so much ecstatic wonder being expressed, the podcast is calm and even-keeled; I am never overwhelmed and always grateful I listened. This podcast is a form of self-care that I hope resonates with everyone who listens.

This podcast is so many things to me. I feel uplifted whenever I listen to it, like the world is as open and wondrous as it seemed when I was a kid. At the same time, it’s clever and complex and very engaging to my adult brain! The different cryptids are all unique and delightful, and the fantastical descriptions are interspersed with so much beautiful language and sincere wisdom. This almost instantly became a comfort podcast which I turn to when I’m anxious or depressed. It’s also genuinely changed the way I look at the world around me. It’s inspired me to go outside more, do research on animals local to my area, keep a list of the random questions that cross my mind so I can chase them further, and to work on my fear of bugs. This summer, for the first time, I looked at a grasshopper and thought it was beautiful, even though I was still a little nervous. Overall, this podcast inspires me to be a kinder, happier, and smarter person, and I can’t possibly recommend it enough.

Now I love me some Welcome to Nightvale, Within The Wires, and Desert Oracle...I really do. But the trans dimensional fox weasel curled up in my mossy barked hardwood heart is 💯The Cryptonaturalist, a warm hug for my brain straight from the bright starry Universe itself!

I listened to the first episode having no idea what to expect...and that was the perfect way to enter the strange and beautiful world of the Cryptonaturalist.

Relatively new to the podcast audience and this was one of the first podcasts I started listening to. Absolutely love it. The writing and delivery is wonderfully wry, inventive, and packs a lot of soul. Thanks for being there, Jarod and company.

This podcast is so perfect on so many levels. I find character called The Transmission to be annoying, but he is the only downside. The narration, the creativity, the theme music, the vibes and aesthetic; all of them have fully entranced me. This is an absolutely wonderful production, and I look forward to all upcoming episodes.

One of the absolute best podcasts out there. Amazing writing, ideas, and voice acting. I think I binged the entirety of it in under three days because WOW. I’m not quite sure if this podcast is fiction or not... I like to listen while walking and I feel like these creatures, these experiences are all around me. I already have a deep appreciation for nature (as a naturalist by profession) but this podcast brings out another side of that: an appreciation for the not-quite known

As someone who wanted to be a cryptozoologist when I was younger, and as someone who is now both a scientist and a creative writer, this podcast really has it all. Excellent writing, delightful imagery, and the contagious sense of wonder that makes us all want to take another look at the world around us. I like to listen to episodes while I make dinner, and I always feel like the narrator is sitting behind me peeling potatoes and telling me about his latest adventure. I’d say I want to be friends with the cryptonaturalist, but honestly, I feel like I already am. 10/10 already convinced one friend to start listening.

“What’s this ‘Cryptonaturalist’?” I hear you ask.. well, what can I say that hasn’t been said before? Perhaps slightly more dated analogies - imagine if some combination of Paul Harvey and David Attenborough was taking you on bite-sized guided tours though a world created by Jim Henson, with a self-aware Winnebago. But, really, it’s just a guy who never stops asking “What’s this?”

Imagine if all the background shots in a Ghibli film had a nature guide. Gentle and dreamlike, the show walks the boundary between the real and the fantastical on a meandering path all its own. Sometimes melancholy, sometimes spooky, often profound and affecting. Because it feels like a strange discovery on AM radio late at night on a strange road, you can jump in pretty much anywhere and then listen to the rest.

The Cryptonaturalist podcast is like if Newt Scamander was a muggle travelling in a sentient Winnebago, broadcasting his observations of magical flora and fauna. Absurd, eerie magical realism, meditations on life and nature, with a built in poetry/short fictionmoment each episode.

The Cryptonaturalist is a bit like if Bob Ross did nature tours of the city of Nightvale. The host’s voice is soothing and the descriptions of slightly surreal/slightly real nature are endearing and creative. It’s a great podcast to listen to as you wind down before bed.
