Episode 34: How to Hit Reset Part 1: Taking Kids on a Mystery Ride
In today's episode of the Creative Homeschool Podcast, I share a refreshing way to hit the reset button during homeschooling by introducing the concept of taking something called a mystery ride.
These rides offer a chance for parents and children to escape the routine and create lasting memories together. I provide exciting ideas for mystery rides and how to go about doing them. I emphasize that they don't have to be expensive or far away, but I highlight the importance of taking intentional time for yourself and your family, reinforcing the idea I have previously highlighted, which is to “slow down in order to speed up.”
Tune in to discover how mystery rides can bring joy and adventure to your homeschooling journey!

Episode 32: Making Mental Health and Self-Care a Priority
In this episode of the Creative Homeschool Podcast, I'm talking about the other side of homeschooling - that is, not the curriculum, but our own emotional and mental health.
I'm getting vulnerable and sharing my own personal struggles with opening up emotionally, and talking about how mental health and self-care looks different for everyone.
Whether it's talking to a therapist, confiding in a close friend, or engaging in alone time for self-reflection, prioritizing your self-care needs will make sure that you can handle daily challenges and improve your overall well-being. Investing in your own self-care is essential and will lead to a happier and more fulfilling life - so let's get started.

Episode 31 Resilience: How to Conquer the Things That Seem Impossible
In life, most of us have experienced some type of hardship or life circumstance that made us feel like giving up. We've also had that feeling like we just don't measure up.
In this episode, I'm sharing about something that drastically changed my life - and caused me to challenge the definition of resilience.
As I preserved and pushed through, I found ways that can help anyone to navigate the toughest of circumstances.
I want to remind you that our journeys are all unique and that as homeschooling parents, I encourage you to recognize and celebrate your children's achievements, no matter how small. Be sure to acknowledge those little moments, that over time accumulate to small victories and lead to significant progress. Please remember to take your time, to persevere.
Your story can inspire and motivate others facing similar challenges so if you can, DM me your own story, we are all in this together and I believe you can overcome and rise to success!

Episode 30: What to Do When Your Kids Won’t Color In Their Art
Have you ever wondered why kids spend so much drawing, and then refuse to color it in?
Deep down, we're wondering if we're going to get this beautiful and colorful piece to keep dear, or hang on the fridge, and then they draw it and add a little bit of green and announced - Done!
In this episode, I'm unveiling the concept of creative energy as a finite resource, shedding light on why kids may feel drained after pouring their imaginations into intricate drawings.
Tune in to uncover valuable tips and strategies to navigate this coloring conundrum. Learn how setting expectations before drawing can influence kids' willingness to color, and why appreciating the details in black and white drawings can be a rewarding experience.

Episode 28: Hit the Books! Books, High School and History with Emily Cook from Build Your Library
In today's episode, I'm interviewing guest Emily Cook, Author of the curriculum "Build Your Library" (BYL), online used book store owner, and curator of history books for homeschoolers. And - gasp - she's done the terrifying and homeschooled kids all the way through!
You'll learn why Emily is fond of the Charlotte Mason style of homeschooling and why it influenced BYL, as well as the importance of using living books, written by passionate authors and engage readers in the subject matter to instill a love of reading in young learners.
We chat about the concerns so many homeschoolers have about homeschooling during the later teenage years, assuring listeners that homeschooling through high school is not just possible, but also easier than you may expect.
And then we dive into tips for creating a high school curriculum tailored to a student's interests and goals, and Emily shares examples of how she set up opportunities for her children based on their passions, such as guiding her daughter toward a creative writing program in college and her other daughter toward art school.
Our conversation touches on the freedom to switch gears in homeschooling, the option to outsource certain subjects or activities that parents may not feel equipped to teach, and books, books, books!
This episode reveals the inspiration behind starting "Build Your Library" and highlights its suitability for a wide range of homeschoolers, including those with different religious worldviews who can add their own beliefs (or none at all) to the curriculum and Emily also shares that there will be more units to come!

Episode 27: Fun Math Options to Shake It Up!
In this episode of the Creative Homeschool podcast, I discuss various options for incorporating math into homeschooling in a fun and engaging way, outside of using your curriculum.
Math can sometimes feel a bit monotonous and is often one of the main subjects parents worry about when homeschooling their kids. And sometimes the math problems from textbooks don't quite align into the real world.
In this episode I'm sharing a few resources that kids will LOVE - and you'll love the learning too with themes such as forest animals, underwater life, aliens, robots, wizards, ninjas, and kittens! If you are looking for suggestions which combine subjects of math and history, or are presented in a comic book format, or online math course, this is the episode for you! Get ready to make math fun again!

Episode 26: Five Summer Read Alouds
This week's episode of the Creative Homeschool podcast dives into Summer Reading and I'm recommending five fun books for you to enjoy with your family. The books are diverse in their characters and storylines, making them suitable for a variety of interests. Some are mystery and adventure, while others are humorous or fantasy.
Studies show that reading together with your kids can foster a love for books, spark imagination, and enhance their cognitive development. Moreover, summer reading can help prevent the summer slide, where students lose some of the academic gains made during the school year.

The Adventure Is Now by Jess Redman, which takes place on an island and involves mystery and adventure
