"History of Covers Through The Ages - Part 2" - With Special Guest Dr. Charles Garrett
On Part 2 of our interview with Dr. Charles Garrett, we continue our conversation on the history of cover music through the ages. After decades of successful cover music, the 80, 90's, and early 2000's bring about a decline in the cover music scene as a rise in both anti-establishment genres and pop stardom favor the original over the cover artist. The hip hop and rap scenes add further challenges for covering, but introduce the "cousins" of the cover, the sample and remix, bringing about a new world of musical sharing. Finally, the Youtube and American Idol era mark a return to cover music and continued growth in music technology suggests a potentially bright future for music collaboration and covering. Listen to Dr. Garrett discuss how AI may be the musical technology of the future, as well as answer questions about his favorite covers, his favorite Beatle, and who he would draft for his fantasy rock band. Enjoy.

"Jerry Week Special" - With Special Guests Josh Weiss and Jack Goldberg
"All the years combine, they melt into a dream." Happy birthday Jerry, and happy Jerry week 2020! On this special episode of the Cover Brothers and with the help of Josh Weiss and Jack Goldberg, we consider 5 of our favorite Jerry Garcia cover songs. We discuss Jerry's early years, banjo playing, and traditional music like Shady Grove. We rock out to a classic blues cover of Let It Rock and discuss the pressing question of is Jerry a blues guitarist. We get experimental and a little chaotic in our discussion on Death Don't Have No Mercy. We pay our respects during our discussion of the always heartbreaking Dylan classic Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Finally, we let our freak flags fly while discussing the quintessential Grateful Dead song and cover, Morning Dew. With a few honorable mentions, and some very Jerry inspired discussions on how to appreciate music, the role of influence on covers, and of course our favorite Grateful Dead eras and albums, this is a "jam packed" (pun intended) episode all in celebration of the life of Jerry Garcia.
