Wide and deep perspectives on the field
Love this podcast. I’ve been a SF/F reader for most of my life (and more recently an attempted writer) and have been really enjoying getting a deeper perspective on the field and its history from Jonathan and Gary. They have a lot of good interviews with great guests, but honestly I like the ones with just the two of them talking the best.

A Staple in Genre
If you've been following the world of SF/F podcasting, then you'd know that Coode Street is one of the staples of the field. They've done extroardinary work exploring the literature, culture, and people of genre. Gary and Jonathan have an encyclopedia of knowledge between them, and they've put it to good use here. Give them a listen cause they're just so good.

My window into Science Fiction
I have fallen so far out of the sifi world with all this annoying adulthood. These guys catch me up. Such great knowledge and such great nerdism. Thanks!!

A Must Listen for SF Fans
Jonathan and Gary do a wonderful job keeping listeners up to date on happenings in the SF/F field. Highly recommend to anyone concerned with science fiction and fantasy. Five Stars!!!

Occasionally enlightening
From time to time the show features interesting interviews or roundtable discussions, but when the two hosts are left to their own devices (which is most of the time) they testily chew over a handful of pet topics, usually debating who should win each year's awards and then whether or not awards mean anything.

Two Industry Insiders with a Long Historical Perspective
It can get a bit dry, but I always learn a lot about (1) the publishing industry and (2) the history of science fiction. I'm coming at this from a fannish place, so I tend to engage with my speculative fiction transformatively, which is obviously not how Jonathan and Gary engage with it. Which is good, because, again, they've been at this a long time and I get a lot out of their perspectives. I'm also chuffed by how much time they spend trying to define "genre". They keep coming back to it like its an itch they can't help scratching and to be honest, it is a question that plagues me too. I don't think any of us will ever arrive at a definitive answer but I like the fact that they ask the question.

My favorite podcast
I get excited when a new episode of Coode Street is out because I know I'll learn something new about SFF and challenge my thinking.

This is It
Far and away the best, most intelligent, and engaging podcast on scifi literature available. A hard-to-find mixture of genuine, genre-specific enthusiasm along with an un-blinkered critical lens that floats above fan service or juvenalia. And one personal plea: I seem to be in the minority here, but I enjoy guest-less episodes immeasurably more than the alternative, as I'm here for the kind of critical (albeit appreciative) conversation on the state and history of the field that can't but be tempered, however understandably, by the inclusion of someone creatively invested in that same field. Just a thought, as I note Jonathan and Gary seem often self-conscious about overdoing those episodes and rolling back around to repeated themes (canon). In my opinion, however, those kind of episodes and discussions are exactly what make this podcast stand out so clearly from the rest of the competition.

Insightful and informative
The hosts are obviously experienced and discerning. I'm enjoying the podcast. However, the sound mixing is at times very poorly done.

The Deans of Science Fiction & Fantasy Literature
Listening to Gary and Jonathan is like sitting in on a weekly masterclass. It is entertaining, unpretentious, and engaging. If you like to think of the genre more than just entertainment, then you'll enjoy this weekly discussion, with banter.
