Hey Change Maker! My guest this week is Megan Fischer of Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank. Did you know that diapers are not covered by any type of government assistance? Sweet Cheeks distributes over 2 million diapers to those in need in their community each year.
ABOUT MEGAN:
Megan started Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank in 2015 after learning diapers weren’t covered under any government assistance programs. She has grown the organization into one of the largest basic needs banks in the country, and with a team of 5 staff and hundreds of volunteers, distributes more than 2 million diapers and 550,000 period products annually from a 16,000 sq ft facility in Cincinnati. Megan is a Miami ’08 alumnae with degrees in Journalism and Creative Writing, and worked in higher-ed publishing before leaving the corporate world to run her nonprofit full-time. She currently serves on the board of Cincinnati-based nonprofit Leadership Council for Nonprofits and is on the Advisory Committee for the National Diaper Bank Network. Megan is a graduate of BOLD (Board Orientation & Leadership Development) Class 3 and a member of C-Change Class 15.
ABOUT SWEET CHEEKS DIAPER BANK:
Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank is one of three programs of COVERD Greater Cincinnati. Founded in 2015, Sweet Cheeks distributes over 2 million diapers a year into the community. As requests for more and different basic hygiene items came in, the organization expanded in 2018 to create Tidal Babe Period Bank, which distributes over half a million period products each year. During the pandemic, a third (and final!) program was piloted, Fly & Dry Basic Needs Bank, which serves adults with incontinence products.

Rebecca first learned about microfinance in college while working with Guinea Pig Farmers in Ecuador and instantly fell in love! Since then, she has worked in domestic microfiance with Accesity (previously Accion San Diego) and now in International microfinance with HOPE International since 2017. She is originally from San Diego, CA and has been residing in the Dominican Republic for the last 4 years, where she met her now husband Diego. They were married in March 2021. She is passionate about poverty alleviation and empowering those whose voices are rarely heard. She sees Christ Centered financial services as a key element in a holistic approach to poverty alleviation and loves watching how as little as $50 can change a whole family's life and trajectory.
