They’re hotdoggers, they go city to city making people smile, and yes, they will be the ones racing in the Weenie 500 at Indy. The Wienermobile itself is a custom forward-cab box chassis with a Chevy V8 Vortec, and these two know it inside and out. They break down the job: applications open every November, you need a bachelor’s degree, a love of travel, and the ability to talk to strangers all day. Roughly 5,000–7,000 people apply every year. Their current run is the Sizzling South team; one is from Pennsylvania on her first Southern swing, the other is from Georgia. They talk about discovering seafood in Louisiana, real barbecue in Kansas City, and why every stop turns into chaos the second people spot the giant hot dog on wheels. They’re in town until Monday morning. The Wienermobile will be parked at the station around noon today if you want pictures, a wiener whistle, or just to see the thing in person. Clay keeps it mostly professional… until the end, when the weenie jokes finally win.
