I titled this review to suggest that Marie covers all bases, not assuming any prior knowledge. The discussions can sound remedial, but I appreciate that this approach is disarming and very informative. I am impressed by how she presents multiple viewpoints and illustrates the complexity of these issues. I am a white man who came with some understanding of my privilege and subconscious racism, and have learned a lot from this series. Thanks Marie!

Interesting, informative, empowering
Excellent podcast! I learn many things each episode. The information I learn makes me feel empowered and gives me the encouragement to do better. Thank you. I’m so sad this is the end of the podcast but I look forward to whatever is next for Marie.

EXCELLENT Podcast
Marie’s discussions are extremely informed, nuanced, fair, and constantly challenge my assumptions. She is brilliant and compassionate and an extremely effective advocate, and she teaches you how to be one too. I refer people to these episodes often. Thanks so much for your work!

Very positive take on anti-racist work
This podcast is amazing! A friend told me about it so I listened to some specific episodes. Now I’m going to the beginning, which actually was really helpful to learn more about Marie’s story. Been studying and doing work for a while but this is such a fresh take that even if a topic seems like review I’m getting a ton out of it. Thank you!

Listen Sooner
So glad I finally started listening and definitely wish I started listening earlier. Honestly, this seems like some of the most balanced anti-racism information that I’ve found out there. As a progressive white woman I often found it jarring that what I was hearing from progressive circles didn’t seem to jibe with the thoughts, opinions and experience, that Black friends or other friends of color were sharing with me. This podcast accesses a common-sense middle ground that still aims to work against racism while also recognizing where going too far can be counter productive. After listening I feel both less hypervigilant myself, but also more prepared to show up as an ally and stakeholder against racism. I 100% agree that the podcast offers that much more above and beyond short snippets on social media. I do hope she has the opportunity to write a book I can recommend someday as well!

Thank for everything Marie!
I was looking up information about Code Switching back in February, and stumbled across your podcast! It took a bit to catch up to all 100+ at that point, but it was worth it. I am grateful for your work; you highlight the importance of knowing and taking action without shaming others. You explain the positives and negatives of both sides, which I don’t see a lot of in today’s media. Thanks to your Podcasts, I’ve been able to share these with a few members of my church, and to have in-depth with my family. They’ve have said they appreciate how much you share about racism, individually, historically, and systematically. Even though it’s no longer called the Changemaker, you have truly changed my life Marie. Please continue your amazing work, and that we all may listen so we can know better to do better. :) [Hello, I have tried to post my comment a few times for the June. I just want to make sure it actually saves]

I just listened to your recording and I am embarrassed for you. I am saddened to think of your fans and followers and that you are doing them a disservice. Shame on you. The black experience is varied and hasn’t been all that great across the board given the challenges. I am wondering about your experience and I truly believe you are doing your best. You have obvious advantages and it shows. Youth also plays a part in your views but this presentation discounts very real experiences of black Americans and POC. You are not doing either black people or white a favor.

Compelling and Informative!
I was introduced to this podcast through the Juneteenth episode via a recommendation from a friend, and I found myself subscribing immediately after the episode ended. Beecham is a gifted, sensitive, and intelligent communicator. Very thankful for her well-researched perspective and insight on topics I am typically intimidated by. I would highly recommend this to anyone, and I can’t wait to keep listening.

Finally I’ve found my anti-racist home
After years of learning and unlearning about anti-racism, I have finally found a teacher with whom it all clicks for me. So much of what I have previously digested has left me feeling shameful, or inept, or flat out wrong about how I see the world. I often feel a bit crazy, questioning whether I know myself or can even trust myself. Not a single book or podcast has ever really felt 100% right to me, until I found the Know Better Do Better podcast. Marie’s nuanced approach to anti-racism education makes so much sense to me and really resonates with my values. I appreciate her willingness to recognize that she too is forever learning, and is not afraid to change her mind or question her beliefs publicly. I appreciate that vulnerability and learn so much with every episode.

Highly recommended for parents
I appreciate Marie’s approach to anti-racism because it is rooted in our experience as caring individuals in community. This feels especially important as a parent member of a school community where I want to show up for racial justice. Holding to our ideals for a just society is a long haul endeavor and it’s essential that we are mentally equipped for the duration. I’m invested in making sure that my white son grows up to be an advocate for racial justice and so I need to be especially careful about how my values take shape and how I share them with him. Thank you Marie for your support in my work as a mom and community member.

Great Podcast!! I’m hooked!!
I was referred to Marie’s instagram account by Tony Nabors when taking an Implicit Bias class from him. Marie comes highly recommended and Tony was right. I plan to have my team at work follow and listen as an important and necessary tool to educate and put into practice what is taught here. Thank you Marie for your wisdom and ability to educate our white privileged team how to manage the most valuable and vulnerable information about racism and what we can do now to change personally, professionally and in our community.

American schools need this podcast!
Marie Beecham’s emotionally intelligent and compassionate style of teaching makes the hard truths about our white ancestors accessible, relatable, and actionable. Every American school should require her podcasts as essential listening in order for us to progress past old, oppressive, white-supreme, and racist ways into a wide-awake, compassionate, restoratively just, and humane society.

balanced & grounded
It is rare to find content discussing race and racism that is grounded both in radical interpersonal compassion and honors the huge injustice and reality of white supremacy. This podcast is a patient, balanced, clear educational project that is doing very important work.

I love this podcast for it brings up topics on race I often never have thought about. It’s not just about bringing up issues but also gives easy yet impactful ways to address them. I also love that the episodes are not too long so it can keep my attention. It often shows many sides of an issue without condescending judgement.

Nuanced, clear, challenging, and generous
Marie does an excellent job deftly navigating topics that can be difficult to understand and discuss. She is skilled at distilling wider conversations while also providing her own takes and backing them up with thoughtful reasoning. Moreover, I appreciate how Marie truly believes listeners can apply these insights and create change around them and strives to help them do just that. This is an empowering podcast, with a nice average length and cadence, and I always end an episode better equipped to apply what I’ve learned. Recommended!

Best conversation I’ve heard on these topics!
As a person with a long-standing interest in racial justice, I have sampled many podcasts that address relevant issues. There is so much to love about this one. It is evidence-based and specifically cites relevant works. It also comes from a place of love and acceptance, rather than judgment, making the messages so easy to share with people from all perspectives. Thank you!

Catering to white comfort
Quality wise, on a technical level it’s a solid podcast. And while I agree with some of what she’s saying after listening to more episodes it seems like she’s more interested and concerned about white peoples comfort in regards to racism. Why am I or any other black person in 2023 concerned about appeasing white people in regards racism in this country? It’s 2023 cuz, if they don’t know that it’s an issue then that’s a THEM issue not an US issue. This last episode was especially problematic. White people shying away from having conversations about racism means absolutely NOTHING in relation to black people having to deal with actual racism. I’m reminded of a quote here (I’m paraphrasing): ā€œMen are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will KILL THEM.ā€ Im not concerned with White discomfort. I’m concerned with the silence and compliance with structural racism that harms black folk. If someone has to make them comfortable to speak up or do something about that? I’m not sure I want that person as an ally to begin with. Because if their participation is reliant on their comfort that’s them centering THEM.

Great content & communication style
Highly recommend this podcast! Marie’s conversation style is easy to listen to and understand - really appreciate how she breaks down the nuance that can be missed on the surface at times. As a foster parent, this is great content and also super helpful to share with friends, family, etc as we continue learning (and unlearning).

Came across this podcast for a class assignment
I’m in a cultural and social course in grad school right now (for clinical mental health counseling) and we have been assigned to find current media that discusses the topics surrounding race, culture, and social issues. We just had a class discussion on white privilege and I decided to use your podcast as a source for my assignment. I’m a white woman and I really like hearing your perspective on several topics. I want to thank you for your work in educating and discussing the topics people like myself may be completely ignorant toward. This is very important stuff! I am now following your pod and will listen to more episodes just for my own learning. I am so glad I found this podcast.

Incredible value
The Changemaker Podcast has been incredible to follow. Marie is as down to earth and inclusive as they come. Every bit of wisdom she shares is honest, relatable and helps people understand DEI concepts (unfamiliar to many) in a very real and discerning way. Even if this is not your profession and you’re just trying to navigate your anti racist and inclusivity values in social setting, Marie’s approach will give you the confidence you need.
