The Cause Between The Vine helps nonprofits find their voice to bring awareness to their communities and looking for a new perspective on fundraising in the virtual world. Nonprofits rely on community support in order for them to continue and fulfill their mission and purpose. The purpose and my mission are to bring communities and families together to believe and discuss something meaningful to us and how we want to step into our own power with the voice. To bring selfless desires to do good.
Trish Shallenberger-A Soldier's Hands: Serving One Unit At A Time
Have you ever truly thought about the hard work our hands do each and every day? How about the impact they make each and every day? Have you ever just taken the time to look at someone else’s hands and try to visualize what they do for work? How about what they do in their off time? Have you ever taken the time to look at YOUR OWN hands and see the condition they are in based on your own lifestyle, both professionally and personally? WHAT WOULD YOU DO if a soldier sitting next to you on a plane said "Thank you for the hand cream. Dry hands are harder to handle than my fear. Thanks for the offer to send some more over to me where I'm deployed, but truthfully, unless the whole unit gets some, it's not fair." Today’s show is about a beautiful soul who was on a plane one day traveling next to a soldier with horribly cracked and sunburnt hands having a casual conversation, Mrs. Trish Shallenberger - Founder and CEO of A Soldier’s Hands. Write a letter or a card to A service member fighting for your FREEDOM right now. Show your gratitude, your appreciation, show them what FREEDOM means to you. I want you to tell them what FREEDOM means to you, what life would be without your freedom that they are fighting for. Show them who you are, what you do, and why LIFE means so much to you. Give them HOPE. Share HOPE. I don’t care how you write it. It does not have to be perfect. DONE IS better than PERFECT. It can be on paper, cardboard, typed, it doesn't matter …. Show our troops fighting for our safety, our freedom that what they are doing matters! Letter/Card Writers: Include your FIRST name, City and State Place letter/card in individualized envelopes DO NOT seal the envelope (as they will be adding the STAR) IF you need suggestions on what to say, email me Email me for where to send the letter/card when complete DEADLINE October 1st If you enjoyed what you heard today, please give me some love and support my podcast. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation: From Lemons to Cancer Research
How would you respond if you were told your child, less than a year old, had cancer? Or any terminal illness? Would you ever believe that good would ever come from news such as that? My name is Mellisa Alfaro, the host of The Cause Between the Vine Podcast where I give nonprofits a platform to share their voice and their WHY. Tamilla Mullings: Beyond The Curves- "I'm More Than My Curves"
Beyond The Curves, founded by Tamilla Mullings (also known as Tammy), based in Florida is about empowering women of all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life. She is the youngest child of her siblings, Tamilla came from a middle-class family, where both of her parents migrated from the Caribbean Islands (Bahamas and Jamaica). She is passionate about family, community, helping, and empowering others. Many would describe her as "Giving you her last or giving you the shirt off her back. Tammy also wrote a book called Becoming Me: 10 Ways to Affirming Self-Love You can find it on Amazon, which I listed in the description below. I am not an affiliate in any way, just giving some love and sharing some amazing work. Beyond The Curves was developed to encourage women to truly show what matters in life is what is on the inside—and not how the outside looks. It is particularly important to go “Beyond The Curves” since everyone knows that no two women are shaped alike—every one of them has her own shape, size, and level (or lack thereof) of self-confidence, which is usually based on her looks. Many women-- no matter the shape, size or age --sometimes need motivation and reassurance that they are beautiful. Beyond The Curves is here to encourage and teach women to embrace their curves and also learn self-worth and self-love. I am sure you have had, as have I, those moments when we were looking at an ad on television or in a magazine with this “ideal” image in front of us wondering, wishing to look like them. I am not enough unless I look like that. The world does not accept me unless I look like that. The sad thing is, it begins at such a young age and is portrayed everywhere in life still today. To be honest, I have been a smaller size most of all of my life. I was in the Army at age 18 and was very active. I mean, I used to jump out of airplanes. I never watched what I ate, and I still don’t today because I believe I should be able to eat whatever I want, in moderation. Up until I had my 6th child, I used to be able to lose weight and get back into some sort of healthy image, but even then, I struggled with my image. I never thought I was skinny enough or looked good enough even when I used to be 120-130’s AND before kids even. So even though someone is tall, short, bigger, smaller - that does NOT define who you are. Look at Fluffy :) He is super funny, he is successful, and he is not small. He is someone I would, now, idolize and envision being more like more than a tall beautiful model on the cover of Vogue. Tammy would say that it is not just about the body, but about life’s image at every point and curve that life throws at you. It's about taking the proper and healthy steps. Aside from checking out her website, the first step I would say would be to Take the Pledge: THE PLEDGE: I Pledge... that my body may not be perfect but it's beautiful at whatever size I am. I will walk with my head held high because. I Pledge to LOVE ME! I Pledge to be Beyond the Curves! I Pledge to embrace my Curves I am committed to being Confident, Happy and Positive. I embrace every curve. I am comfortable in my skin. I will no longer dislike my body but embrace it. I'm more than my CURVES! I AM BEYOND THE CURVES ACTION STEP: I cannot go without mentioning a delicious recipe using one of my favorite wines that help support nonprofits every day. So this is what I want you to do: Read the pledge fully through, let it sink in, grab your Piña Colada Wine Punch (directions in the description below), stand straight up in a firm bold stance, take a sip, and read out loud the pledge- own it, be it, do it! To find out more on how to join the Beyond The Curves Movement, join their mailing list, events they have coming up, or just how to support them in general, I have posted the link in the description below. Check them out. If you enjoyed what you heard today, please let me know. Support me by showing me some love and...

Honoring The Fallen: Memorial Day Special
Honoring the fallen on Memorial Day On Memorial Day, we remember with gratitude the heroes who died for our country and our freedom. We are truly fortunate to live in a nation where we can pursue our hopes and dreams. We owe our freedom to the ultimate sacrifice my fellow service members made. As you enjoy the holiday, please take a moment to reflect on the many blessings that come with being an American and remember not only the people who died to make that possible but also their families. I will be celebrating with a moment of silence and a bottle of bubbly. To calmly reflect on where I have been as a person, a soldier, and where I am today. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and what a perfect time to reach out to someone to just say "Hey" and ask them "How are you?" Something as simple as that could be life-changing! My mission this month is to support MindUP For Life: The Goldie Hawn Foundation that helps children develop the knowledge and tools they need to manage stress, regulate emotions and face the challenges of the 21st century with optimism, resilience, and compassion. Mental Health Awareness Tips: MindUP For Life Update
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and in support of it, we’re highlighting MindUP For Life | The Goldie Hawn Foundation. MindUP for Life is a mental health organization that teaches children skills and habits they can take into their lives. Skills like regulating stress and emotion, forming lasting relationships, and acting with kindness. We have contributed not only $25,000.00 to MindUP For Life: The Goldie Hawn Foundation, but we have raised, so far, a total of $27,777.00 out of our goal of $30,000.00. AMAZING! Practicing Self-Care during Mental Health Awareness month is so important. The past year has challenged us mentally, physically, and emotionally. During times of stress and anxiety, we must do all that we can to take care of our well-being in every manner possible. Now more than ever, it’s important for us to practice the art of self-care. In honor of http://onehopewine.com/mindup (Mental Health Awareness Month), I will be sharing tips for simple practices you can start at home to foster more connection both with yourself and others. -Reach out to a loved one -Read a book (with a glass of wine :) ) -Wind down before bed -Schedule "ME-Time" -Draw a relaxing bubble bath (with a glass of wine) If you’re looking for a way to give back during Mental Health Awareness Month, visit https://www.onehopewine.com/myshop/wine-4-a-cause where 10% of every purchase gives back to https://mindup.org/ (MindUP For Life: The Goldie Hawn Foundation) and so many more. Know that together we can make an even greater impact with this amazing organization. sociatap.com/mellisaalfaro mellisaalfaro.com
