From Brazilian author, Machado de Assis, whom Harold Bloom listed as one of the 100 greatest geniuses of literature, these short stories are innovative and daring, with a dark look at the lies men and women tell themselves and each other. Todd Conner’s translation is written to be read aloud and modernized just enough to make the characters feel fresh. Who knows where season two will go? Based on this beginning, it’s likely to be just as entertaining.

As a Brazilian myself, I am so happy to know that an American has taken the initiative to make the words of Machado De Assis known to the general public in America. Congratulations Todd for this wonderful podcast and for loving our culture as much. Hopefully we will collaborate and bring Machado in front of a live audience again! Keep up the great work!
