The Bolton Wanderers Transfer Deadline Day Special
It's Transfer Deadline Day and to kick off our live blog, we have recorded a special hour-long episode of The Buff podcast to try and predict what business Wanderers might do today. We (correctly) call that Liverpool full-back Owen Beck has completed a season-long loan - and ask what that might mean for Declan John and Jack Iredale. We look at the striker options and debate whether Ian Evatt needs to bring in even more firepower? And have the defensive mistakes which surfaced over the past few weeks shown that more improvement is needed at the back?  We also bring you a list of 10 things you will DEFINITIELY see on a Bolton Wanderers transfer deadline day, plus the brilliant Simon Woods adds his unique tunes. There is also a game on this weekend - so Marc and Henry cast their eye over the visit of Charlton Athletic and predict how Wanderers might fare. This season we’ll be running a special Fantasy Football League for listeners of The Buff – and will be dishing out monthly prizes, plus recruiting some special guests to play against from the world of Wanderers. We look ahead to games against Plymouth Argyle and Crewe, review the Buff's Fantasy Football League, and lots of other stuff which, frankly, goes off at a tangent.  This season we’ll be running a special Fantasy Football League for listeners of The Buff – and will be dishing out monthly prizes, plus recruiting some special guests to play against from the world of Wanderers. Presenting: The Conor Bradley Appreciation Society
WANDERERS are going well – and The Buff looks back on a positive week trying desperately not to get over-excited. Marc Iles and Henry Hewitt pick through all the week’s headlines in The Bolton News analysing the draw at Port Vale and the win against Morecambe. We look ahead to this weekend’s League One game against Sheffield Wednesday and the potential for a bumper crowd at the University of Bolton Stadium. And just over the horizon, don’t forget that Premier League Aston Villa are on their way in the Carabao Cup. If you’re reading this Stevie G, bring it on! Of course, we bring you the best of our listener emails, including some wi-fi talk and the possibility of Wanderers hitting the big screen. We also bring back Six Degrees of Kevin Nolan. We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether it has been a success. We also confirm that Conor Bradley is good. Very good, in fact.   This season we’ll be running a special Fantasy Football League for listeners of The Buff – and will be dishing out monthly prizes, plus recruiting some special guests to play against from the world of Wanderers. Wycombe, Salford and a bit of blue for the dads...
THE Buff has returned after a week away, and this week we have a smorgasbord of wonderful football after two wins at Wanderers and a brilliant Carabao Cup draw. MARVEL at the 31-pass move for the second goal against Salford City, WONDER at the rout against Wycombe and SWOON at the record-breaking season ticket sales and a Fan Zone that sells half-decent ale. We break down all the week’s headlines, build up to a tough trip to Port Vale, rank the Wycombe win on the Evatt-o-meter, and discuss that harsh red card for George Thomason. Of course, we bring the listener emails too – including which former Bolton Wanderers manager shares a name with an adult film star, and why the sound system at the UniBol is showing its age. We try to separate six degrees of Kevin Nolan and take a first look at who is succeeding and who is failing miserably in The Buff’s Fantasy Football League. The Official Buff League One prediction podcast
WELCOME back to The Buff’s annual League One prediction extravaganza – and who we think will be riding high or sinking low this season. Soothsayers Marc Iles and Henry Hewitt take out their crystal ball to see who will be struggling at Burton on windy Tuesday night, and which clubs will be on the beach by April. The boys analyse some of the big headlines at Bolton Wanderers from the week and analyse the final pre-season friendly against Huddersfield Town. There is a game-by-game breakdown of the summer to see what has gone right and what has gone wrong for Ian Evatt and his squad. But most importantly we give our 1-24 predictions, safe in the knowledge that the podcast will be clipped and thrown back in our faces by fans of the clubs who exceed our expectations! This season we’ll be running a special Fantasy Football League for listeners of The Buff – and will be dishing out monthly prizes, plus recruiting some special guests to play against from the world of Wanderers. The one where we pick a side to beat Ipswich at Portman Road
IT'S that time of the week where Marc Iles and Henry Hewitt thumb through all the Bolton Wanderers headlines and bring you the details behind every story. Yes, it's The Buff Podcast. And on this week's show we build up to the final pre-season friendly against Huddersfield Town by weighing up the pros and cons of the summer so far. We channel our inner Ian Evatt and see if we can already pick his team to beat Ipswich Town on the opening day of the season.  Of course we investigate the Carlisle United defeat, and the B Team's inauspicious start, and Evatt's heatwave comments which seem to have caught a few people's attention.  But most of all we fish through the minutiae of Wanderers life: Ponder what cocktails might be served at the FanZone bar, what Disney film Medo Kamara might like, and why Henry knows so much about Darren Pratley and ice cream. There's also a Nat Lofthouse quiz and your emails on iFollow in a bumper episode that is bound to whet the appetite for the final dress rehearsal this weekend.  This season we’ll be running a special Fantasy Football League for listeners of The Buff – and will be dishing out monthly prizes, plus recruiting some special guests to play against from the world of Wanderers. Paperbacks, wing-backs and a shed tonne of friendlies
WELCOME to another episode of The Buff Podcast as we continue the countdown to the start of the League One season. Marc and Henry sift through the details of friendlies against Wigan Athletic and Watford plus the debut of the B Team at Atherton Colls. We flick through the sports pages of The Bolton News to talk about the big Wanderers stories of the week including the departure of Ronan Darcy to Swindon Town, the weird rumour about Wrexham and Declan John and the latest transfer news from the UniBol. We read out some of our reader emails and then dig into Marc’s extensive archive of programmes to pick some of the best player Q&As and do a half-time quiz from 2015. This season we’ll be running a special Fantasy Football League for listeners of The Buff – and will be dishing out monthly prizes, plus recruiting some special guests to play against from the world of Wanderers. The officially behind-closed-doors Buff Podcast
WELCOME to another edition of The Buff Podcast, as Marc Iles and Henry Hewitt take you through another week of pre-season, and a week closer to the big kick-off in League One. The lads peek through the long grass at Chorley and see how Ian Evatt’s side is getting on – then we grab the binoculars and suss out how the Whites went on behind closed doors against Stockport. The accounts are out, so Marc and Henry discuss whether there are any major concerns, and also point in the direction of Kieran Maguire’s Price of Football Podcast for some proper analysis. We’ll be going through our listener emails – with a set piece complaint, a comment of bringing back women’s football to Bolton Wanderers and a point on safe standing at the University of Bolton Stadium. This season we’ll be running a special Fantasy Football League for listeners of The Buff – and will be dishing out monthly prizes, plus recruiting some special guests to play against from the world of Wanderers. The Barry Knight album: Number nine Evo-lution
WELCOME back to The Buff – and the first one of Wanderers’ pre-season! We look back at the opening friendly against Longridge Town and a nine-goal haul that has got everyone very excited, rightly or wrongly. The club’s new home shirt was launched this week, so we ask whether it is alright or Barry Knight in the fashion stakes. Ian Evatt announced there were “conversations” with other clubs about top stars like Dapo Afolayan and Ricardo Santos, so should Bolton supporters be nervous? The B Team squad is padding out, so we examine a couple of their new recruits, and we discuss where Ian Evatt still needs to strengthen his first team squad… if at all! Of course we read out our listener emails, because they are the best bit. And one raises the distinct possibility that Stephen Dobbie could one day become Bolton Wanderers manager. Marc and Henry try to tackle a two-minute challenge, rather unsuccessfully, and we also tip our cap to The Beatles. No spoilers. Remember, it isn't just a podcast, it's The Buff Podcast. And we're here every Friday. If you want to get in contact with the show, please email [email protected] or tweet Marc on @MarcIles and @Henry__Hewitt  And please, please leave a review.
