Avoid.
Every character has extreme drama and trauma. Formulaic all told from the same lens. Every character essentially the same. Listened to first 4 seasons and a couple episodes into 5. With my job I easily crush podcasts. I gave this one plenty of opportunity so you don’t have to. Unless you like soap operas. Then by all means enjoy.

One of the best
This is one of my all-time favourite audio drama projects, thank you guys for making this! Amazing story, great voice acting, everything ties together in the plot and there are no weird loose ends (even over 8 seasons - impressive!), great sound quality with no unnecessary/distacting sounds or music - truly everything in this show is done so well. Thank you guys!

Not great
The psychiatrist figure gives bad advice and tells her patients they are responsible for other people’s feelings just because they are aware of them. She guilts patients for making less than ideal decisions when that’s a part of life. My main objection to this series is that the psychiatrist seems like a pretty bad psychiatrist. I’m hoping she turns out to be evil.

I love this series I randomly came across it one day and I love listening to over and over again I love Caleb story my favorite character

One of the OG Audio Dramas
This is a podcast made with love by every member of the team. It starts off slow and compelling with a lot of great characters that you get very intimate with and watch them grow and interact one by one. The voice actors are top notch and to those day I’m sad I don’t hear them in more work. Sound quality still holds up since 2015.

Love the story just not the entitlement
Love the powers and everything like that. Reminds me of xmen in a way. I just thought Damien and mark are very toxic and could give people the wrong ideas. Also the entitlement issues of most of the characters really is scary. There’s so many people like this in real life and it almost sensationalizing it in this podcast which is what’s scary. Not everyone needs to know everything about everyone.

Late finding it, but glad I did
The humanity in the story and of the characters really hits. The character, Frank, is really emotive and feels so genuine. I love the story. Tops for me.

(3rd review- ??) (2nd review)Yuck! … (1st review)want to qualify as a patient
—-3rd————I stashed this away for awhile and just returned for the rest. Episode 410 was great! I didn’t expect there to be one that was almost completely music. It’s beautiful and I hope to hear more. I read some reviews before adding to mine and wow! Some of them are just pathetic. Whine, whine, whine … I’m pretty sure that if the characters were all powerful white men with a few delicate white women those reviewers would be thrilled. After all, why have any LGBTQIA+ content? Why shouldn’t they insist on being asleep, oblivious, and unaware of anyone else’s needs be good enough for everyone since it’s good enough for Them? I don’t often see reviews complaining that the entire cast is cis, white, and out of touch with the world around them but wow! Sneak in a cast of a straight therapist, a cis married doctor couple, a straight time traveling couple, a bi dreamwalker and her male confidant, an asexual artist, a high school couple navigating their first relationship, and gobs of other people who don’t discuss sex and relationships. Why do the “unwoke” among you even care how people love? It’s really irrelevant but it sounds like anti-LGBTQIA+ reviewers find a little thing to pick apart and then keep looking for more. Sheesh. Grow up, kiddies. I still resent having everything be monetized while still being bombarded by ads. —————2nd—————New review, giving you 1 star, wishing for negative. I was a huge fan and support whatever I can on Patreon. Not good enough. Too bad. Apps and pods find ways to price us out so after watching the web grow, become great and turn rotten … Everyone believes their product is the one worth $50 or $200/year and then they (this one) start(s) loading awful ads on top of that. My disgust is legion. \------1st review——- What's your super power? I wanted invisibility as a kid but I'm more practical now and want telekinesis. I even wonder if I can sit on something- a Persian rug if you will, and move that to move myself from place to place.

I love this!!
I was immediately hooked! Interesting right from the beginning. I powered through 6seasons before writing this and I’m excited to finish. The only thing grating on me is the constant angst. Everybody sounds like they’re gonna cry all the time while they’re having an asthma attack. I’m fully skipping over Caleb at this point and I’m glad Sam and her nervousness have been given less focus. There is a span of several years between episode 1 and season 7 but the OG characters have not really evolved at all, almost zero growth or acceptance of their abilities. That being said, I do love this show and I’m excited for what’s next

Amazing!!! Got to listen to!!!
I did not expect to get so hooked up. I came across this podcasts late by suggestion from another podcast that I listen to. Since then I haven’t been able to stop listening. I have fallen in love with all the characters, specifically the original cast. But Oliver is kinda funny and growing in me. Yes, I’m finally getting all caught up with season 7 and decided to subscribe to atypical and become a patron, I have only done that for another podcast, that means I really love The Bright Sessions and atypical artists. Keep on the good work everyone, the audio, the story telling, the characters, everything is so well put together and the sound quality is very good 👍🏼 can’t wait to listen more.

A Pleasant Wow
I definitely didn’t expect to come across this gem. A different take on powers. The 2nd episode is normal though. Tough to deal with but not a super power.

Gorgeous storytelling
This podcast made me fall in love with so many characters, then proceeded to make me feel so many big feelings along with them. Gorgeous.

I hope we get a tv show or movie about this! Such a unique storyline. I’m obsessed!

This is my second time listening and it always ropes me right now. It’s cool to be able to visualize the characters and make them your own. Very well written and done!

Fell off
Compare only the titles and loglines of the first or even third season with the last and you can see how lost in minutia this once "bright" premise got. Seems the writer got lost in the trappings of YA fiction when if they'd put in the work and time, they had the promise of a mature and sophisticated sci-fi career. Still worth it for the beginning, but don't expect a satisfying payoff.

Love it!!!!!
I love this podcast. It almost reminds me of X-men. The abilities of everyone and all the characters you can’t help but just love wach and everyone one of them. I only found this podcast about a week ago and I can’t stop amazing work I hope you will be doing more

I love this podcast to death
I love this podcast to death, if only out of sheer nostalgia. This show is a blast from the past. It so well encapsulates the mid 2010s; it feels like I dug a time capsule from the bows of 2016 tumblr. It has a genuinely intriguing plot and the acting is phenomenal but I sometimes question certain one off writing decisions. A good portion of the jokes land but there are some that just don’t read the same today. At some point a character says, “Accio best friends in the world!” and I think a little part of me died. The big picture of the plot is amazing and totally makes up for certain questionable writing decisions

Love love this podcast
This podcast is for people who like immersive, well written “light” SF. The voice acting is superb. The storyline is presented in such a way to invite the listener to deduce bit by bit what is going on. It’s one to savor, not to rush through. The are many layers to enjoy.

Just… SO good!
I’m on season 4 and absolutely hooked. Well acted, well written, and chock-full of really complex and interesting characters and big mental health topics that are handled really well.

We love it!!
My partner and I enjoy this show so much, we always listen on long trips…only one downside… if you’re listening to it in the car, it’s not high/low balanced. People will talk so softly you have to crank up the volume to understand them (Frank especially or sad moments) and then someone will speak up and my god my ears feel like they are rupturing… some audio mixing updates and it’s PERFECT.

Like Fringe as an audio drama
I have always been interested in strange science and parapsychology. This podcast is amazing. It did start a little slow, but didn't take long to hook me.

a world that draws you in
Love this podcast. I hope future spinoffs occur. I’d really like to learn more about The Order, and people like Sadie. The world Lauren Shippen has made is compelling and will draw listeners in. I’m sad that it’s finished but glad to know there’s books so will try to get my hands on them.

Great Listening Pleasure
When it first started, I was ready to roll my eyes and find another podcast. I AM SO GLAD I STUCK AROUND!! Love this show! When I tell you I was yelling at Damien during the Mark episode (s4 e8 or e9?). He said your words matter. Apologize and SHOW that you are truly sorry. I mean what? “After awhile you’ll forget you were ever mad at me.” I lost it. Well written. Well. Written.
Angel TheOne
Confusion (episode sorting)
I really love this show and the characters but… I think there’s something wrong with the episode sort. There’s random episodes anywhere and the show is missing a lot of them. I went from session one with Chloe and Sam to session nine with Caleb and it’s rlly confusing
Saturation extended
Forced politics
What would be a pretty good story gets completely ruined by their forced politics.

Obsessed
I love this podcast! It’s so well written and the storyline is gripping. Lauren Shippen is a genius.

Theme songs all ripped?
Like the show but I noticed that every theme song sounds exactly like another shows theme….The Black Tapes and The White Vault don’t deserve their music stolen???

Love this show (as a Psych major)
Honestly I love listening to this show and as a psych major who is practicing counseling psychology it is wonderful to see (hear) techniques I actually learned used during the show. Not to mention the intrigue of the story is great. The characters are well developed that even though you only get limited interactions it feels like they are far more filled out than we even get to see. The show is definitely a must listen to and something you can’t put down once you start.

Great stuff!
I’m listening to this with my pre-teens and it’s great. Safe and fun for them (if you don’t mind a little cussing) and interesting enough for me. It’s hard to find shows that meet those both needs.

Again??
Another “woke” podcast with confused gender role suggestion and light grooming. Disappointing.

I’m hooked!
I ran out of my normal podcast and wanted to listen to something different and came across this one and I’ve been hooked since! Funny at times and really intriguing…has kept a hold of me.

Amazing and somewhat flawed
Loved it. The sessions, especially the patients’ first ones with Dr. Bright, felt like real conversations. I absolutely loved the AM archives, and the college tapes was great as well. I liked the detail **moderate spoilers for any listeners not this far yet: in which the intro song gets more and more distorted as the crisis drags on in each episode** end spoiler. However, the bickering between those two particular people in season 7 got a bit repetitive. A great audio show nonetheless.

Life changing
I never thought I’d find a podcast as good as Welcome to Nightvale. The Bright Sessions holds its own, and more. If you’re mentally ill, queer, and/or strange, you have found the show that gets you.

A classic for a reason
Lauren shipper is literally a genius. Even when I hate this show I love this show. It also demonstrates mental health in a really interesting way. If you wanna get into audio fiction this is a good place to stsrt

Good but…
Very good podcast, but in season 7 the drama of Caleb goes on and on and on. Grow up Caleb and put your big boy pants on OMG. Too much of it. Move on

Amazing 11/10
I know I'm incredibly late but I love this podcast. Amazing depictions of depression and anxiety, trauma, addiction, and anger issues. I love Caleb and Adam with all my heart. I just really don't like Damien (I think that’s kinda the point tho) . This podcast has made me laugh and cry. I wish there was more of but everything good must come to an end. I don't understand how you can not like this podcast. It's amazing and it also has queer characters. A lot at that. As someone who has depression, I rarely see characters with depression represented as well as they are in this podcast. None of the characters are all good or all bad, they all have flaws and talents. If you are thinking about starting the show DO!!!! I LITERALLY LOOOOVVVEE IT
