Ep 2: Language and the Practice of Law | Advocate Nipun Saxena | The Black Letter
This episode focuses on the significance of communication skills for both law students and lawyers. In this episode, we have with us Mr. Nipun Saxena (Advocate, Supreme Court of India). With his years of experience in practice, he walks us through the importance of communication and language in actual practice in the Court. He reflects on his experiences as a law student at National Law University, Delhi. Further, he discusses his involvement with the “Tihar Prison Advocacy Project” initiated by the Legal Aid Committee of National Law University, Delhi. This project identified prisoners who were eligible for a personal bond under Section 436A of the Criminal Procedure Code of 1973. The students were made to gather information, present cases before the Court, and obtain release orders from the prison.    Furthermore, he advises law students to look beyond their preconceived notions in order to uncover their true calling in the field of law. He emphasizes on the importance of communication skills for interns during an internship. He also advises first and second-year law students to intern in trial courts and NGOs in the initial years of law school to learn the fundamentals of the practice. Lastly, he takes us through the art of communication and persuasion in the Court.
