Fantastic.
I was trying to think of a way to pitch this show to a friend and I settled on “it’s like if Dan Carlin stopped caring about anything except Batman”. But that’s a joke and more than a little bit of a disservice. The Black Casebook is so so so thoughtfully made and carefully researched. I love the way it’s presented. I dig the music. My understanding of Batman (the character, the property, the mythic analogue) has deepened, and in the process I’ve been introduced to a variety of ideas and opinions from the real world I wouldn’t have thought to run into here. It’s special, it’s great.

very good
Someone just left a whole college course lying on the internet. Learned more about philosophy and art history in the past couple days binging this thing than in my college career dilly dallying in poli sci and art. never stop hoping everyone!

Quality podcast
Even as a Grant Morrison skeptic, I appreciate the thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and insight every episode of this podcast brings. Batman’s not even close to my favorite DC character, but there is a lot to talk about with him, and I’m glad there’s a show like this to intelligently cover it. Do No Man’s Land.

Fabulous!
Have really been enjoying this show! Incredibly high-quality, especially for a one-man show. Walt, please keep making episodes!

One of the greatest podcasts ever done.
It's hard to fully convey how incredible Walt Lewellyn is as a solo presenter and researcher on this. For the relative brevity of many comics, there is an incredible amount of serious cultural research put into this podcast from Kabbalah to the history of early Hollywood to fundamental psychological theories. This is serious cultural critique, and Walt's love of Batman and comics in general shines through in a deeply necessary way in a time where comics are still seen as disposable, even if dressed up more than in past decades. Walt also has an incredible voice and talent in podcasting, to the point that listening to an episode feels like listening to a guided meditation. Bravo!

5 stars is too low
A new fave podcast. Well researched, incredibly thought out, and beautifully presented and insightful analyses of different takes on Batman in comics and film. I’m late to the party, only 2 episodes in, but what a show.

Amazing
This is an incredible podcast who’s host puts in such an admirable amount of work to give us very well thought out deep dives into world of the Caped Crusader. Add that to a funky intro and you’ve got a top notch podcast.

Kudos to the maker of this podcast for their exhaustive work into various storylines of the Batman. Their use of historical events and philosophical references as portals into the themes of these stories serve to add more relevance and lifespan to many long adored Batman plots. If you’re looking for something more than the usual “uhs” and “ums” of more informal and casual podcasts this is the one for you. Keep up the great work!!!

Don’t sleep on this podcast
This podcast is incredible. I’ve never heard such deep, encompassing dives into fictional characters (let alone superheroes!) like this before. I didn’t care about Batman until the Black Casebook came along. This is a must listen for anyone - even if you don’t know anything about superheroes or even comics. Episode one hooked me, because I like Grant Morrison, but by episode six I was all in. It’s just gotten better and better.
