I am a Python developer and derive a lot of value and enjoyment from the podcast despite the fact that the hosts are Ruby developers. The podcast does an excellent job in presenting topics of interest to all software developer, so don’t be put off by the hosts “day jobs.”

The two co-hosts have chemistry and the show is also well edited. It wouldn't surprise me if somebody on the team has radio experience. The show sounds like a bubbly chat ar the coffee machine between two senior engineers. On the technical side it definitely leans toward Ruby on Rails subjects. It doesn't dive deep into any particular topic, so I in that sense can't say I've "learned" anything from it. It's a good way to stay aware of current software trends. It's where I first heard about Tailwind CSS or that Cypress tests help you write more accessible websites. I often leave an episode with the thought, "Oh, that sounds cool. Let me check this out." From the topics covered it sounds like the hosts are in their 30s. They're drifting away from technical questions and more toward project management and leadership. For example "How do we mentor junior devs in a remote office?" or "How do I balance my time between managing and building?" One final kudos: so many people talk a big game about accessibility. They walk the walk. Each episode has a full transcript.

Despite being a side project of Thoughtbot, this podcast is surprisingly well produced and always has interesting guests and topics. Even though it might seem a bit lazy, I actually like that they source a lot of their guests internally because it seems like all the guests and hosts are automatically a lot more comfortable with each other and can dive right into deeper topics. I also like that they bounce around different ecosystems and don't only talk about Ruby or Elixir or JS or whatever. A really unique and fun podcast.

Steph is delightful! I love the cadence of the conversations with Chris and Steph — they don’t overly explain but still go into depth on practical issues

Bike Shed is an awesome podcast by the people at thoughtbot. They produce a bunch of different podcasts, but this is by far my favorite. Always interesting interviews that provide a wealth of information into Ruby on Rails development and web development in general. Highly recommend.

I listened and looked forward to this podcast every week for a few months. A couple weeks ago, Dereck (sp?) and Sean announced they’d be handing over the reins; since then I’ve lost interest. I really enjoyed their combination of smarts, experience, and not taking things too seriously. While I may not be giving the new guy enough time to settle in, so far the feel for me is that the show has lost that good combination of things that make the podcast interesting.

Warning: you might get into Kerbal Space Program by listening to this podcast. :)

I started listening from the beginning about a 1-2 weeks ago and am not only on episode 65 now but have also caught the most recent episodes. The discussion, observations and diversity of tech thinkers on the different episodes is inspirational and educational.

Sean, Derek, Laila, and guests are always filled with great stories of how they solved some development problem. Part of what makes this podcast so great is it's not scripted. "Topics" are whatever they've been working on or thinking about recently. This lets the podcast live up to its name by diving into the minutiae of everyday development. After listening, I can now solve the problems that they talked about, but more importantly, I've learned more about solving _all_ problems.

Even though this podcast is not 100% focused on Ruby on Rails, the majority of the content is centered around Rails development. The hosts are all very experienced Rails developers (one is a member of the Rails core team) and it’s great to hear them talk about the hidden corners of the platform and future directions for Rails.

I love listening to coding podcasts because I get exposed to things that I haven’t before heard about. The Bike Shed is a really great place for these kinds of things, because Sean and Derek go really deep into things of which I have a moderate level of understanding. I learn SO much from them, and really love the show. Also, I now expect ActiveRecord to be at least 1% faster in Rails 5!

A great programming podcast that can actually keep you informed and won't put you to sleep!

Derek and Sean are a great team. Sean will deep dive while Derek will make sure to clarify terms and keep the listener on the same page. I learn something new every episode. The Bike Shed regularly has guests from the Ruby community and has a great mix of technical discussion and entertaining stories. This podcast is a must for ruby programmers or those interested in what the ruby community is like. I subscribe to most of the ruby/rails podcasts and this is the only one l make sure to never miss. Thanks thoughtbot, Derek, and Sean for entertainment on my commute to work! Keep it up!

Sean and Derek strike an impressive balance of giving context for their very technical discussions and jumping right into the hairy details of the topic du jour. Lots of awesome guests, too!

Disclaimer, Sean and Derek are former coworkers so my bias is definitely showing. For those steeped in the ruby, rails, or javascript communities this podcast will probably feel like many conversations you've had over lunch with your peers. The two hosts balance the topics well between technical, while simultaneously accessible, and light, airy and funny. Sean and Derek have a great rapport and have definitely settled into a groove now that they're many episodes in. I look forward to listening every week in those windows of time where I want to (casually) think about the programming craft.

I really enjoy all the deep, inside Rails talk. For me, these guys strike the right balance of being casual and technical at the same time. Out of the eps I’ve listen too the subject matter was always interesting. Plus, the production values are good. Other code podcasts might have good content but are difficult to enjoy because of a weird sound or voice thing going on. I hope The Bike Shed podcast keeps going and keeps this format.

This podcast has some of the best ruby/rails content around! It's become a staple of my listening schedule.

I’ve really been enjoying the podcast. Great to hear all the nitty gritty details of what you guys have been working with. Aside: from my perspective on the Ember framework with 6 week fwd only releases is not at all due to instability. Quite the opposite. It’s highly stable. As mentioned, it means only smaller changes can be pushed at one time, which IMO is just a better way to build, but it makes the upgrade process that much easier and so I’m willing to do it much more frequently. I believe it’ll be very infrequent that a bug found in a 1.x branch isn’t already fixed by 1.x+2. So if you stay current it’s fixed fast and if you don’t it’s already fixed by the time you get to latest. Also, their use of feature flags and strict semantic versioning keeps things very solid.

All I can say is this is a very good podcast. Everything you need to take your skills to the next level are instilled here. No need to look elsewhere unless you like the smell of failure.
