This event is significant in the closing days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. Jesus had close friends in Bethany, 2 miles from Jerusalem, named Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Lazarus was ill thus his sisters, Mary and Martha sent for Jesus. Instead of heading straight for Bethany, Jesus remained where He was for 2 days. When He arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been dead four days. There were many who had come to grieve with the family. Jesus states to Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life” the last of the seven “I am” sayings.
