In our final episode of keeping up with Canada of the season we talk about a TON OF SHIT. But mainly we are talking the outcomes of the pandemic and the behaviours that followed. We chat about working through and giving forgiveness for the treatment to unvaxxed during during that time. What we think could cause people to awaken versus why they may not. We chat about how we’ve come to see the education system as indoctrination camps sometimes vs helping the world. It’s like our whole world view was shattered in 2020 and we closed 2023 and began 2024, it’s important to reflect how we put the pieces back together. Let’s start with kindness and empathy and less rage and finger pointing. Let’s come together ti see why we all acted the way we did and if we inflicted pain on others, we truly need to reflect on that internally and make amends. On our final advocacy episode of the season, we bring an amazing woman on to share her journey with Breast Implant Illness & Breast Cancer. Stephanie, like our past guests, was not informed of the potential risks associated with Breast Implants. As far as she knew, she got the safest ones. However, after swapping from saline to silicone 8 years after her original implant, her health started slowly declining. When she did they swap, they noticed fluid around her implants, unsure exactly what it was they decided to go ahead with the switch. Dial ahead to 2019, Stephanie finds herself in a group of 50-100K women with the same issues, leading to Breast Implant illness. She does her research, finds herself a surgeon she trusts and BAM, lockdowns. Luckily in early 2020 she was able to line up a surgeon closer to home and aligned with her needs but a few weeks later gets hit with another blow. Breast cancer. This woman is a powerhouse survivor and a beauty of a human being. Join her and I as we discuss her entire journey, her battles and her victories. This next Being Real with episode, I jump in with my mom, her bestie and a childhood friend of mine to talk about being a mama in Port Alberni currently and all the chaos they are witnessing as parents. From the school system to the media to the medical industry to the entertainment business, there seems to be an influx of need to have pure acceptance of everything sexualized, specifically to young kids. At this point in time, parents are not allowed to ask questions or have valid concerns without being labelled with some extreme title. No one wants to be labelled a bigot, homophobe or transphobe for simply asking questions so it seems many parents sit in silence, afraid to speak up. If we want progression and inclusion and equity, we have to ensure all voices come to the table and we work together to make everyone feel good. Everyone deserves love and safety there is no doubt about that. But we don’t do it by fighting and hate. We do it by coming to the table like adults and seeing all sides and having compassion for those we disagree with and equally evaluating we may not be right either and that’s ok! We can coexist but we have to be open to it. But the hard talks have to happen. That’s my hope for 2024. In our 4th episode of Keeping up with Canada, we chat about Universal Basic Income and the homeless problem here in Canada. While we have zero idea of what the actual solutions are, we truly believe there has to be better out there. Throwing money at anything doesn’t actually solve any problems. In fact, it truly seems to just create more problems. It’s not always the persons fault of why they are on the streets but without giving them basic survival skills or how to balance said money, are we even sure this will help? You don’t just give addicts money and walk away without any support of how to get clean and use that money for living. And of course that is not all. Not even close. But without addressing why they ended up there and the root cause, UBI is only going to further this issue. Teach a man to fish right?! Stop throwing fish at things and teach/support those in HOW TO FISH. Ya get what I’m saying?! What do y’all think this could lead to?! This will not remove our tent cities. Because no matter how much money you throw, it’s not even close to enough to support people in this economy and with this inflation. Dummies. I’m looking at you CF. Be better girl. Do better for this country. Even middle class people are one bad mistake, one crisis away from losing it all. Is this what Canada wants for itself?! I love the contrast between being a mom and dad and I love that they both see the struggles and wins of both sides. While moms get scrutinized about certain things that dads don’t, Dads usually don’t have the same connection or time with their kids and scrutinized over that unlike most moms. A lot of silly scrutinizing we see here! No one gave anyone the handbook to being a parent. Heck each kid is even different! Can’t be crazy hard on yourself but at the same time, you have to be evolving and growing and healing as adult to lead by example. It’s not showing your kids you are perfect. What began as celebrations or essentially safety practices, turned into big box office pissing games really. I think the true meaning for any holiday will lie within your home. Whether you practice more traditionally or the modern version. We just want everyone to make sure they move ahead during these holidays with pure intentions and not going broke to keep up with the Joneses. At the core of these holidays, it should be about community and togetherness. As long as that’s happening, these holidays should be celebrated as you wish them to be.
